BC NDP are going to give FNs a veto over land use in BC
ExFlyer replied to blackbird's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
How much more are we going to compartmentalize this country?? We cannot be a country with all the special circumstances and situations and appeasing everyone. Unity is clearly not what this country is all about -
Canada's criminal justice system gets failing grade
ExFlyer replied to I am Groot's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I guess the criticism is all by who you disagree with? Every side has a story.... The courts and the numerous appeals systems and the lawyers representing the accused have their opportunities to prove themselves, regardless who is appointed by whom. -
You partially read that correctly. The entire supply chain, from buying the seed, planting, growing and picking and processing and transporting, import fees and taxes etc are all part of the cost of the product. As it is with all things we need and buy. To blame one sector of the supply chain is not only uninformed and unfair, it is naive. As far as produce is concerned, yes, Canada has limited growing season and one harvest per year (generally) and therefore must import what we need and want. Affluence has nothing to do with it. We are beholding to the market forces and have no other choice except not to buy.... as with consumers all over North America (and perhaps world wide)
-
Fact is the cost has doubled as a result of the entire supply chain, from the growers to the labour to the processors to the suppliers, to the wholesalers etc. The entire chain has increased it's costs and it is all passed on to you, the consumer. No one singular sector of the supply chain can be blamed but all sectors have incurred higher costs.

My point exactly....so, we import. But it is also difficult to grow vegetables to supply our needs in any part of Canada from September to July/August. All I am saying is that our grocery prices, particularly vegetables is beyond the control of our retailers. We even stopped processing much of what we eat so we import processed foods as well.
-
BS. We import almost all our food. "In 2022, imports of beef amounted to approximately 187,670 metric tons in Canada, an increase from around 185,670 metric tons the previous year." https://www.statista.com/statistics/453428/beef-import-volume-canada/ We do not grow anything after September besides a few fruits. From September till July /August of the following year almost all our foods are imported. "it is estimated that nationally about 75% of fresh vegetables are imported and half of that from the US, with 37% of fresh fruit also imported from the US (Hui, 2022)." "Some 90% of leafy greens are imported, most of that from the US with California being the prime production state (87% of California lettuce exports are to Canada, Norman 2023), now often subject to disruption from weather and pests (Hui, 2023)."https://foodpolicyforcanada.info.yorku.ca/backgrounder/problems/reliance-on-exports/ "Canada's self-sufficiency is complex; we demonstrate self-reliance in our dairy, meat, and grain production. We are mostly consuming our homemade food and can export the surplus. However, we need to catch up with our fresh produce output. For example, we import around 75% of fresh vegetables." https://opinionsinternational.com/2023/02/07/the-question-of-canadas-food-self-sufficiency/ "Canadian fresh and frozen fruit imports have continuously increased over the last two decades. Canada imported $6.9 billion of fresh and frozen fruit in 2021, which is up 3.1% year-over-year and represents an increase of 13.3% over the last five years." https://foodpolicyforcanada.info.yorku.ca/backgrounder/problems/reliance-on-exports/ So,yes, we are a the mercy of other countries and their prices and price increases.

Every drug, every vaccination, every medication has all sorts of warnings and aside effects and issues with them. As you say "we know the harmful side effects and what it interacts with badly and therefore we can counsel people how to use it safely.". As you stated, we did the best we could in a world wide crisis. Bottom line is, live in the present and stop whining about the past. Time to move on.

It is your spell checker, nothing to do with the website.

Just responding to your post to me that said "Buddy. You said something dumb and he pointed it out. This is just... weak. ". My original point was that dougies normal heros are torturers and murderers. I care not about some pint sized sailor that died over 300 years ago.
-
Buddy, your comment is equally, if not dumber. Hero worship for anyone by anyone is what is dumb.
-
Oh Dougie go worship your other heros...the ones that torture and kill civilians
-
So?? Thousands of military personnel under his command were killed.
-
Certainly correct. Often hero worship cloud the real person.Ordering people to their deaths in battle does not make the leader a hero, the ones that died in the attempt are the heros. When you pick a hero, make sure you know all about them. Dougie has a problem with that LOL

Lord nelson, the adulterer that had a child with his best friends wife? The one that assisted in the invasion of the Kingdom of Naples by the French? he never bought anything, let alone was even consulted on them. You certainly value scuzbags LOL

The Disparity of CEO's and Workers salaries
ExFlyer replied to Queenmandy85's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Give it up and smell the real world. As I told you a while ago, there are leaders and there are followers. In life, you're either the steamroller or the pavement. Which one you are now, and which one you'll be in the future, is determined by your mindset. There will always be those better than you. Accept it and your life will be less fu*ked up LOL Oh and quit with Putin and climate change and any other useless comparison you are trying to make to sound reasonable. Yours is a lost cause LOL -

So what? Clearly in the opinions of corporations and companies the CEO is worth more than you and the rest of Canadians. Your inane obsession with how much a CEO makes and inequity is something that you should seek psychiatric attention for LOL Disparity is not a problem, it is life. -

Resorting to playing word definition games again??? LOL We were talking Canadian, not American or is there no good Canadian argument you can provide for your foolishness.? The US system is not even close to the Canadian tax system so using the American data is nonsensical "study shows the top 20 per cent of income-earning households already pay more in total income taxes than the other 80 per cent do." https://nationalpost.com/news/canada/top-20-of-income-earners-fund-majority-of-ottawas-income-tax-revenue-report Give it up, you have no argument, let alone a point. -

Not sure where you got that little nugget but, CEO's, company presidents and officers always got huge renumeraiton. While actual money may have remained somewhat stagnant, high level management was offered stock options and long term incentive compensation to offset cash. "sociopathic tendency that puts interests peculiar to themselves before the interests of the human beings they serve"???? What does that mean?? Companies have always been in business to make money for their shareholders and before that, owners were in the business to make money for themselves. You are trying very hard to make corporations and businesses be responsible for society's faults. You are out of line and very naive. All people have opportunity and it is upon themselves to do what they can or want to better themselves. Whine and complain and stay your course and that is all on you. -
The Disparity of CEO's and Workers salaries
ExFlyer replied to Queenmandy85's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Michael, my only point is that some things are worth more than others and some things cost ore than others. The whole thing is determined by what folks will pay for those things, be they products or people. Some peoples obsession with what other earn is just bizarre. Jealousy at best. -
The Disparity of CEO's and Workers salaries
ExFlyer replied to Queenmandy85's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Nothing snotty at all. You whine and complain about CEO wages then when you don't have a valid argument for you take on it, you resort to "concerned at how much need there is in the world and how to address it ". There is inequity and has been inequity from the beginning of man. Some are leaders and some are followers and the followers always seem to whine the most but when told to or asked to do more to better their position, they resort to some righteous attempt at making it someone else's fault.
