  1. Listen a$$hole the topic is media, not government. We all know your transparency in government whining. Start your own thread and see if anyone gives a shit,. my "ginch in such a twist." because you cannot stay on topic you jerk. don't rsrpond, you are one track turkey.
  2. Look, where you get your news is your choice. Social media was and is blamed for so much mis an dis information but , if that is OK with you and you do do not verify , well, that is your issue. Napster?? LOL My opinion is that taxpayers and social sites should not pay to keep news media in business. If they were reliable and unbiased, they would have an audience.
  3. Oh stop, your ignorance is spilling all over the pages again LOL Speaking. of the media your said "If trust is the issue and people are afraid all they'd be getting is propaganda then pile on the transparency and accountability. " I asked "Pile on? On to who? Who audits the piling on? " You said "'d start at the deputy minister level on up to the PMO" which has nothign to do witht he news n=mes=dia or Google or how muc the taxpayer an dgoogle pay to support the news media . So really, it is you that is, and I quote you again, "full of shit" LOL
  4. So. Facebook is users posting links, not Meta. Google stopped and it was fine without Canadian news, they just kowtowed to the feds, they did not have to and that was OK by me., No, you are wrong, nobody expects Google to be their personal news gatherer. If you want news, go to the news websites but wait, you didn't want to so amalgamaters did it for you. So, in that case, you should be paying a subscription fee...as some news media are now doing, hiding their content behind paywalls. And in the end, the dreaded feds make a law that makes the taxpayers pay for the news.
  5. None, Facebook just allowed you, the user to link news and Google just had Canadian news on their news page. That is what pisses me off. Our feds feel that because you or I link a news story on facebook, Meta has to pay. Google, since August has not had Canadian news and did not suffer. That is why I said the kowtowed to the feds. It is BS in my opinion and Google should have told the feds to shove it.
  6. WTF are you babbling about. The point is that we pay a lot of tax money for independent news and now Google pays as well.. You saying they, the media, needs to provide and accountability and transparency is BS. News never has to provide transparency or accountability, never, ever, to anyone.
  7. Do you not get it?? News media doe not have to give you any transparency or accountability information. Their sources are protected. The media has not or very rarely been convicted for "malfeasance or dodgy behaviour" Propaganda is in the eye of the reader or political objector LOL Media and News has never and will never be held accountable. Oh and, there are no obligations to news media to get the money or to Google other than pay.
  8. Well, if it happened on your neighbourhood, it is Canadian news and content. LOL
  9. So, you support the news media being owned by government?? You cry now about false news, how much will the news media owe by getting hundreds of millions from the government?? We are talking about news media and you brought up transparency and accountability. The news media is not and will never be "transparent or accountable". It, by legal definition, can and will and does protect its sources, and will never ever be transparent. You should know that LOL
  10. Yes i tis caving. They could very easily continued as they were and not pay and not carry any Canadian news as they had since August. They decided to pay...or, cave BY the way, the $100m is CAD which equated to $74 USD. The $150m was from Google and Meta combined. 1. So, the people do not know what is best for them so, we let government tell us? LOL 2. 3. I agree wholeheartedly. If you want news, go to the actual news media websites.
  11. But Michael, the "market" is the public and the interest is waning. Isn't what the feds are doing by throwing money at media "Canadian content requirement"? Bottom line, Facebook saw no Canadian usage drop when the stopped Canadian news and I am pretty sure no one at Google or in Canada noticed there was no Canadian news.
  12. So you are OK with the billion and a half the CBC alone gets and the 750 million the others get and the 100 million google gives? Pile on? On to who? Who audits the piling on?
  13. English your second language?? The question was "If the media is so bad it cannot even attract advertisers to itself, why should anyone pay, especially my taxes pay? " Yes is not an answer LOL
  14. I am so disappointed that Google kowtowed to the Feds and will now pay $74 million USD ($100 million CAD) to the Canadian news organizations. https://www.cp24.com/mobile/news/google-to-pay-100m-a-year-to-canadian-news-publishers-in-deal-with-ottawa-1.6665893?cache=yes https://apnews.com/article/google-news-canada-0c12334603bad9d150e6a7ade7002eb1 So, in addition to the what $650 to $750 million the feds give to the media , Google gives an extra $100 mill. If the media is so bad it cannot even attract advertisers to itself, why should anyone pay, especially my taxes pay? When I watch the local news, I get 15 to 20 minutes of local news, then Toronto news and then world news from American sources. My local newspapers have gone form 30 or more pages a day to, last week the biggest was 12 pages and a lot of it was from American or European sources. Bell and CTV have closed radio stations and fired hundreds of employees. Newspapers fired reporters. The fed money and now Google money will not stop the media downsizing. Google caved and they are wrong. Facebook announce they have not lost any subscribers or money since they stopped Canadian news links so hopefully they will not cave. https://www.theglobeandmail.com/canada/article-metas-news-ban-fails-to-dent-facebook-usage/
  15. Man herbie....find out what goes on in other parts of Canada. You clearly live only in La La Land. That mountain range is keeping you from becoming informed about the rest of Canada. You are such a homer, knowing nothing about Canada. F350???/ herbie...give your head a shake, shake out the stupid, make room for common sense not your !diocy.
  16. You friggen idit. They cannot pay as it is. They are getting carbon tax cuts so they can afford oil now. If LNG comes, they will have to pay to get their homes converted over and whatever the cost of LNG infrastructure and product cost is. Are you gonna give them money to do that?? You !dot. They cannot afford it now and they certainly will not be able to afford more costly service and product then. I cannot believe you are grown up person? Or then again, you are mentally still a kid?? LOL
  17. Yeah OK. ?? I am very much in tune with reality, it is you that seems to want to disregard the real facts. You don't like the ruling so therefore it is crooked. Know what the legal system is and quit your crap.
  18. I "threw" that in because it seems you truly do not know the legal system. Ideology, prejudices and political views are not what is asked of the judicial system. All judgments are made outside of those and based on present laws and our charter. The US system and Trump are not what is in Canada.
  19. Thank you for verifying what I have been saying. The supreme court is not political, it is legal. No government or leader or politician is safe from the rulings of the supreme court, or any court.
  20. Our Canadian F-18's actually have very few flight hours on them. Less than 8000. https://ottawacitizen.com/news/national/defence-watch/rcaf-cf-18s-a-list-of-hours-on-each-airframe All items on an aircraft have an overhaul life. Then they also have periodic inspection. requirements. Main wing spars etc are monitored constantly for any anomalies so, they can last a very long time. Usage is the killer, not time. We are actually kinda soft on our aircraft usage. The ones we just bought from Australia are only going to fly about 160 hours per year. https://ottawacitizen.com/news/national/defence-watch/used-australian-f-18s-will-fly-160-hours-annually-for-rcaf Tac Hel units like 408 do a lot more flying and more intensive ops than the F-18 ever do. They also rack up many more hours. Out transport aircraft are run ragged. the Hercs spend more time in. the air than on the ground. LOL Bottom line is we truly baby our aircraft. they will last 50 years, which is about average for all our fleets. Of course safety is paramount. Like they say, it is not a truck or car, you cannot pull over to a cloud at 25,000 feet and fix that flat I also sympathize with the Army, they have to use their vehicles ion a pretty crappy environment all the time and well, we know what that does to vehicles and know what kind of environment they need to be repaired in. There are no nice warm hangars out in the field.
  21. Scott Taylor and his sidekick former colonel and now lawyer (forgot his name) lost all credibility many years ago when they became the number one dumpster diving access to information salesmen.
  22. No, judges do not make cases, they rule on legal standing of the case. Lawyers question and ascertain. https://cscja.ca/the-judges-role/ Judges do not "determine the ideas" of anything. They rule on the legal application and validate the case in front of them. Politicians think they can do as they wish and often make laws that cannot be enforced under our present rules, laws and constitution. That is why the supreme court often strikes down a law. Politicians never get anything done because they do not do enough due diligence (in the house as well as senate), they do many things for the optics alone.
  23. The maritime patrol scene has dramatically changed in recent decades. I was on Sea King replacement project for a while and there was great debate if that maritime helicopters were actually still needed. That is still being debated. There are very few subs nowadays and our maritime patrol stuff (CP140 and Cyclone helicopters) is not really necessary in the minds of many. Maritime patrol was never really warfare but more detection and deterrence. Of course, we use them for sovereignty purposes as well. Anti Sub warfare is primarily detection. Once detected, the game is basically up for the sub. Canada was the best in the world way back when we had the old piston engine CP 107 Argus. We regularly beat the Americans and their P3 Orion's during maritime patrol exercises. Challengers and Global Express aircraft are not the answer to Maritime patrol, especially if they need to carry any kind of armament.
  24. Where did you get that from??? Judges make judgment and provide decisions base don precedence and the charter. Yes, there can be different interpretation s but, like every democracy, the majority rules. Clearly you lack understanding of the legal system, in Canada and anywhere.
  25. They do not "judge" people. They adjudicate the question before them. Politics is exactly why and how laws are made. The politicians hear what people (you) want and make laws to appease you. The courts and supreme court is there to ensure the "politically motivated" laws are within the present constitution and the present legal structure. Not sure where you get the idea that a judge just sits there and say "yeah, that's a good idea or not a good idea" LOL Experts are everywhere. Even you seem to think you are an expert if you insist "experts" are needed. You are in expert in what? What is an expert anyway? Someone that agrees with your take on things?? LOL
