The so-called freedom of speech and rule of law
Faramir replied to xul's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Interesting though this poll that Canada is now only 45%. But I have a problem with groups who do multi country polls like this. Often they have no real world knowledge of the countries in question so can't look very deep into what that country is REALLY like. Like those polls that rank the best places on earth to live, ect. For instance talking to Chinese students they think their life in China is great and they enjoy lots of freedom. That might be captured by a pollster. But when these same students end up seeing what life is like in the West they realize how much freer things are. But I suppose when you have Globe and Mail columnists shilling for the Taliban ect, I can see why there is low trust in Canadian media. -

There was a comprehensive Macleans poll that put it much higher, but that was some time ago. The problem with polls I guess is differing results. -

We could go to New York for $400 each. Or Anaheim for $300 each. Some really good deals out there. But you are right, I have never thought we would ever fly anywhere with the kids. Just driving trips. My point though was to point out cost increases that are not necessarily captured by inflation statistics. Another example is BCs property purchase transfer tax. Brought in during the 80s by Vanderzalm you are taxed 1 percent on your purchase of a home. The government brings in about 9 to 12 billion each year on this tax, and costs home buyers over $10,000 based on the price of houses now in BC. -
Why are they pushing HPV vaccines on my 8 year old child

Thanks Teena it just smells of government and Big Pharma conspiring together. As much as I am a capitalist I think it is always bad news when the private sector makes deals with government. -
Anti-covid David beats pro covid Goliath.

FWIW, the hoax isn't whether COVID exists. It does. The hoax was that it was necessary to send various economies into a recession over let's be frank, in Canada, killed less than 1/10th of 1 percent of the entire population. -

I know people who will not vaccinate themselves. Don't understand why but that's their prerogative. I am doubly vaccinated but only because BC made life too difficult without it. What I find grating is the self righteousness of the pro-vaccine crowd. Carrots work better than sticks. By insulting those on the fence by calling them anti-vaxxers does nothing for making your case. So my wife and I are doubled down, but we are letting our 14 and 16 year old make their own choice based on what they understand. Told them they won't be able to go to the movies without one -
Our school sent out forms for parents to opt for HPV vaccines for our son. Why are they pushing a vaccine like this, that is only effective for a few short years onto an 8 year old!! Is the BC Medical system in cahoots with Big Pharma? I remember they tried this in Texas and the Governor had to apologize.

I understand modern banking means they can print money. Have $10,000 in deposits and a lending ratio of 10% means you can loan out $100,000. Charge 2 % interest on the 100,000 and that is $2000. You must made $2000 on $10,000 in deposits. -

Average Canadian families live on $110,000. Think about that. Making $110,000 and still can't get by. -

Funny how people have only noticed inflation now. I'd say over the last 16 years of our oldest child groceries have increased 10% year over year. -

A couple liberals from Portland moved to Canada and joined our bible study. They bragged how they tried to change their father's conservative stripes. Then a month later they moved BACK to Portland because they couldn't afford to live here. For anyone who has been to Europe know how unaffordable it is there. Canada is becoming much like Europe. Out of reach. -

Sadly it also coincides with our trust of our media, which is in the low 70% region. Sad. -

Right, but government needs to be broadly defined. I believe you be able to criticize all government agents, including figures in the legal system without penalties. This could include heads of various agencies, for example the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal. Also while you have no right to say what you want in my private home, there is an expected freedom that we can criticize other citizens with limited sanctions against that. It is well known for instance the bar is ridiculously low in England and Canada for libel. For instance you can lose a lawsuit if say you called someone a "Nazi" which is ridiculous. It's obviously subjective. -

No I don't. I do believe someone should be allowed to deny the holocaust. And I do not deny the holocaust in case you were wondering. I believe if we don't believe in the the worst speech, we really don't believe in free speech. We take the good with the bad. Denying the holocaust could fit into "something that could lead to violence in the foreseeable future. -

It's rather sad but not unexpected that liberal leaning people don't want narrow restrictions on free speech, but as we see here think if something "possibly could lead to violence in the future" it should be censored. Or if its not nice. Very Canadian. Even American liberals, not all, but I'd say most, value the right to free expression. -

Ah no. Being conservative means something. It means an affinity for small government and unobtrusive government. For my parents to think GWB is on the right is in error. They are just ignorant of reality and watch too much CNN. -

Being hetero is like drinking water because I'm thirsty. I don't identify myself by my sexuality. I just naturally like girls. Being homosexual is a choice to do something disgusting and perverse. -

Ah so another non defender of free speech like Tree. If it's "poisonous" it should not be allowed to be said. OK Commissar. -

Right so you don't believe in free speech as you don't think people should allowed to say nasty or incorrect things about Jews. You added a qualifier if it can lead to violence in foreseeable future. That is exactly the weasel language the kangaroo courts use. -

Sure they can. It's like resisting smoking. It is simply an extra curricular activity they chose to engage in, still not an identity. Sort of the same thing as liking balloon sex. Kids know there are 2 genders as does science. It's these perverts that are trying to put these questions in their minds to doubt themselves. Parents are looking out for the emotional health of their children, not to become walking targets for homosexuals.
