Quite the opposite. If the Republicans had taken both houses in the last election he could have done just about anything. As we have now seen, the whole Republican party is lining up to kiss his ass even though he lost the election. He was already talking about a third term before he was half way through his first.

That cost is somewhat inflated because she didn't serve a full term. A large part of that cost is the life time pensions and expense accounts that are given to these people after only five years of service. How many former GG's are still collecting those? Something could be done about that. Any replacement head of state will also have a cost, unless you want to give prime ministers even more power.

Canada's screwed up warship competition

I don't know how many we will need. It depends on our commitments to our allies and whatever arrises on our own coasts in future. The best weapon is the one you never have to use. I'm pretty sure money will be wasted no matter who builds them. -

I do look to see where things are made and made in Canada is a big factor when I buy something. We can't bitch about things being offshored if we aren't willing to support our own industries. -

True but others would say, most of that money is staying in Canada and quite a bit will come back to government in the form of taxes. If they are built offshore, every penny will be leaving the country. It would be interesting to know what the net effect of these projects is to the economy. -
We now know that most of our early cases originated in Europe, not China and New York is the main port of entry to the US from Europe so it is not surprising that New York and New Jersey were hit first. What does need to be explained better is the higher death rate in those states. Some of it will be that they were hit when we were at the bottom of the Covid earning curve and some of it could also be bad or incompetent management. Texas has a worse death rate than California. Unemployment rates are about equal.

The Type 26 is a larger more capable ship. Is it worth that much more? Some countries think so. Is it what we need? Would we be better off with a mix of larger and smaller ships? I don’t know.
