America under President Trump
Yzermandius19 replied to betsy's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
bush_cheney2004 is one of the better posters around these parts, you simply want to write them off without thinking, and are coming up with a lame and nonsensical excuse to try and justify it. You're new and rushing to judgement, I know bush_cheney2004 far better than you do and you're way off. -

I simply acknowledge reality while you indulge in naive optimism. If you think simply "not giving up" is going to fix the issue, you are deluding yourself. Doesn't matter how much you demand that people only support honest politicians, even if everyone agreed, that will simply result in the vast majority of people thinking politicians who tell them what they want to hear are the only honest ones. Nothing gets solved that way, that is actually the status quo, you simply don't realize it and put too much faith in other people to discern who is and isn't an honest politician with any accuracy. You think that them not doing so is simply a sign that they've "given up", but most people are just rubes, and these rubes are the vast majority of the electorate who elect corrupt politicians thinking they are honest because they tell them what they want to hear. You aren't going to change human nature or election results for that matter, by virtue signaling about corrupt politicians, that's a non-starter. Also you're impression of bush_cheney2004 is totally inaccurate, as are your mind reading skills. -
The immigrants aren't the problem, it's the Canadian born white people, especially white politicians, white public school teachers and white university professors, who more often support central planning as the solution to every problem, the immigrants much less so. It mostly white people who most approve of high levels of immigration as well. Displaced anger is a helluva drug.

The road to 2020
Yzermandius19 replied to GostHacked's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
It's all in the game, you can't ensure that it isn't happening, it will always happen, Trump or no Trump. Learn to deal. You can pine for honest politicians all you want, but reality doesn't care about your wishful thinking. I'd advise not expecting or demanding the impossible, that just lead to disappointment. It won't change anything for the better either, all cost, no benefit. Less naive optimism, More grounded realism. Protip. -

No one is promoting that by pointing out that less collateral damage is happening under Trump's watch than many of the most recent POTUS's. You are creating an idiotic strawmen to make yourself feel smarter and give yourself an unearned sense of moral superiority over those you disagree with. -
Nothing is stopping workers for purchasing their companies stocks, getting rid of an arrangement that workers like and voluntarily agree to, in the name of protecting them is folly. If companies want to offer their employee's shares of the company as part of their compensation, they are free to do so. Stop trying to ban choices you wouldn't personally make and force people to have less choices. You aren't helping, you are just claiming to stand for them, while you seek to penalize them because you think you know what's best for them, and they and their employers aren't allowed to make the choice for themselves. Your proposal will not reduce income inequality, it will increase it, all you are doing is punishing people for making choices you disapprove of, in order to try and force them to make choices you do approve of. All cost, no benefit, go back to the drawing board.

America under President Trump
Yzermandius19 replied to betsy's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
There are no politicians who aren't crooked who have any chance of winning the Presidency. Wishful thinking isn't going to change that, corrupt politicians are the only politicians, any theoretical honest politicians lose to the corrupt ones, you can't win a political race with one arm tied behind your back, using kid gloves because you are too moral to take them off. There are plenty of non-crooked cops. Apples and Oranges. Being childish and screaming "life isn't fair!" in the face of reality isn't productive. Grow up. -

America under President Trump
Yzermandius19 replied to betsy's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
No it's worse than that. They actually think it's possible for a politician to be a saint and get elected, and so when reality shows that not to be the case, they hate on the player for playing by the rules and simply demand the rules of the game be changed, even though if they did that wouldn't result in a saint getting elected. If a politician doesn't live up to standard that no politician will ever live up to, they lash out at them, especially if they disagree with them politically. -

Trump is doing a better job of creating less collateral damage than other presidents. Comparing Trump to a mythical unicorn candidate who will never get elected is not a useful comparison, you are suppose to judge politicians against other politicians, not saints. -

These clowns want to compare Trump to imaginary politicians that never tell a lie and are saints with perfect moral conduct, as if there was anybody running against him who fit that description. They want to pretend like politics isn't politics and that it's actually possible to hold politicians to an imaginary standard that no politician will ever meet. They don't want Trump against his actual competition, because that would make him look good. -
I am not denying the results of the poll, in fact, I was pointing out that QuebecOverCanada was doing that, so how you are lumping me in with him on this one is beyond me. Many of those who like to fecklessly virtue signal about the environment like to fecklessly virtue signal about other issues as well, who knew?

I would like to see Trump re-elected, especially considering the competition. More importantly though, he will be re-elected, regardless of my views on the matter. -

They will grasp at any straw to pretend like Trump is losing even when it's very obvious that he's winning. They refuse to live a world where Trump can be politically successful, even when it comes just to getting elected and re-elected, so they go full cognitive dissonance about it and then start confirmation bias scrambling to cherry pick things that show Trump in a negative light to maintain their delusion that he's secretly failing. -

Just win baby. Of course the haters will move the goalposts, Trump will probably win more electoral votes this time around than he did last time. If Trump wins the popular vote, they will simply claim yeah but he didn't win California or New York. If Trump loses in any demographic or loses any state, they will claim that is clear indication of his weakness, and they will cherry pick whatever metric makes Trump not look so hot, no matter how silly it makes them look. Trump Derangement Syndrome is a helluva drug. -

FDR being far-left is a myth the lefties like to tell themselves so they can delude themselves into thinking it's actually a winning electoral strategy in American politics at the state or presidential level. FDR won because he stole the center from Republicans and Republicans didn't get it back until Nixon. -

Yzermandius19 replied to GostHacked's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
No he wasn't. FDR was not that far-left, he won the center, while the Republicans were out in the political weeds being Rockefeller Republicans. Bernie is far to the left of FDR. Bernie winning is more unlikely than the NDP winning a federal election in Canada, America does not support the NDP, that sh*t doesn't fly. The Republicans would have to go straight up unapologetic in your face fascist for someone like Bernie to have a chance, and they aren't doing that. -

I'm not underestimating them, if anything I'm overestimating them. I'm get surprised all the time by just how stupid Democrats insist on being going into 2020. They've already gone too far left to pivot back to the center successfully, even Biden. Socialists can't win a presidential election, every time the Dems go far left and the Republicans take the center they get steamrolled. Grass roots far lefties being pumped doesn't energize business Dems or moderate Dems in the rust belt, Sanders would get killed. You may like Bernie Sanders, Joe Six Pack does not, the America electorate does not think like the Canadian electorate, and even Trudeau isn't a self avowed socialist who honeymooned in the Soviet Union.
