  1. Already happening and we’re managing. People are recovering well, including the immune-compromised.
  2. The bigger picture here that so many people seem to miss or downplay is the question of freedom itself. Is it worth anything anymore? Are people “irresponsible” for wanting to meet people and see their faces? Is it unreasonable for kids to play sports, and for people to attend community events or stadiums? We keep hearing that it’s about keeping the hospitals from becoming overwhelmed, but what we measure becomes us. If we look for Covid through endless testing, even in mild cases or asymptomatic people, we’re going to find it, and our screening will make these people stay home from work. What’s the value in that? To slow the spread? Once people get it they have months of immunity, and the next time they get it they have better resistance. Is the plan to flood households with tests, find Covid, and scare people back into isolation? What we’re doing is sick and dysfunctional. Covid is everywhere in a milder form and most people are well-protected through vaccinations. They can mask up if they so choose. People indeed are falling apart, and not because of catching Covid, but the endless fear-mongering and psychological damage from leading sedentary lives in isolation. The restrictions under which we live are indeed drastic and totalitarian, and they cannot be justified, certainly not at this stage. End all restrictions immediately.
  3. I want a libertarian. It’s not about left versus right anymore. Hell I used to be a member of the Liberal Party in the Chrétien era. They’re garbage now. Just an affiliate of the coastal Democrats and Xi’s Comm Party of China. They only know how to subsidize expensive identity politics pet projects, raise the cost of living, and shut down natural resource development. They’re destroying Canada. The Conservative Party of Canada isn’t measurably different. I just want the essentials from government, not directives on what to think and how to live, especially when I don’t even respect these people.
  4. Well that’s another reason why we have to shift to allowing citizens to make informed health decisions that are right for them. Trudeau is pretending that vaccine holdouts are the reason the pandemic continues. The vast majority of the public are vaccinated. Omicron is relatively mild. Millions have had and are getting it daily. Almost all recover well. Covid is endemic, but that doesn’t fit the narrative of fear that Trudeau and Biden are telling. Trudeau is trying to justify his budget and temperance lady health puritan story. It’s not about what’s right for the public or the health of our democracy; it’s about him and our other leaders being perceived as right.
  5. I’m fully vaccinated and my boost is scheduled for mid-January. I wear masks all day at work. Nice try. With 90% of adults and well over 80% of 12-18 year olds fully vaccinated, soon followed by 5-12 year olds, do you really think having more of the population boosted is going to suddenly end this? Get real. Ending the pandemic is an entirely political choice at this point. It requires being honest with the public about what can and is reasonable to control in a free society. We are more than safe enough from Covid to end restrictions and shift to personal responsibility. It’s so sad what our country has become, a place of the unquestioning weak-kneed and infantilized. Only a unified opposition can shake this. It must be large, reasonable, vocal, and persistent.
  6. The problem is, and maybe it’s because the highly dominant Boomer generation is retiring, people like blackbird who really aren’t impacted by restrictions because they’re already puttering around at home all day, don’t understand how damaging these restrictions are to young people who really don’t face any serious health risks from Covid. To be stuck learning at home, deprived of friends, dating, dancing, concerts, travel, sports, and everything that blackbird got to experience as a youth, expected to continue to shut down their lives so that masked-up triple vaxxed blackbird, who has no plans to leave the house anytime soon, can feel more protected, is selfish. Here we are with access to multiple vaccines and PPE, vaccine passports so only the inoculated get to participate in cloistered “safety”, and a milder variant that feels like a basic cold or flu for almost everyone, and we’re still restricting gatherings and keeping students at home. This is immoral mistreatment of generations of Canadians. How can our own governments treat citizens like prisoners, damaging mental health, destroying businesses, and causing an interminable debt for future generations to pay off? It’s disgusting. END ALL RESTRICTIONS NOW OR EXPECT TO LIVE UNDER THEM FOR YEARS TO COME.
  7. We’re waiting on Health Canada to approve a fast-acting anti-viral pill that’s ready for deployment. For those more serious cases that go to respiratory, we still have plenty of room in the ICU’s.
  8. So Trudeau is sending out 170 million test kits. Why? We already know millions have had and are getting Omicron. If they’re sick enough to be admitted to hospital they can be tested there. Stop this waste of tax dollars.
  9. Sorry but the generation that fought in those wars, the “Greatest Generation”, aren’t the ones asking for restrictions.
  10. Yawn, Brampton Hospital just lifted its Orange Alert. Alberta is returning kids to school next week. I know how badly you want this to be a crippling crisis, but it’s time to move on.
  11. The only reason we’re having a shortage is because our screening makes mildly sick people and asymptomatic positives stay home. End the screening and start treating Omicron as the 3-5 day cold/flu that it is, and the “crisis” disappears. This is a crisis of fear rather than reality. Dump the restrictions and mask requirements. Let people decide how much they think they need to protect themselves. The vulnerable have boosters, masks, Amazon, etc. Time to move on and stop throwing money at this. There’s much more to life than worrying about a disease we can easily manage at this point. Let people live normal lives. Free up resources so health care workers can focus on treating sick people.
  12. We’re not imprisoning the population indefinitely to satisfy your sadistic hypochondria. End all restrictions immediately. Get the totalitarians out of office.
  13. True and this kind of dumpster fire of the public purse wouldn’t have taken place under Harper. Trudeau is a master of opening old wounds and trying to fix policy problems by throwing money at them. Want to solve the problems on reserves that contributed to bad domestic situations? Ending the Indian Act would be a start. Throwing more money at unsustainable, broken systems just perpetuates them.
  14. Yup the young are being robbed of normal lives to protect a small group of worried people who can be fully vaccinated and boosted, who can wear masks and social distance themselves. Do we need to continue to turn the world upside down to satisfy their selfishness?
  15. Yup. China leads the global consensus now, which is why UN suck-up Trudeau is all in with totalitarian restrictions. People don’t realize how much freedom Canadians have lost. You only realize it when you travel to states where people live without restrictions. Like a country behind the old Iron Curtain, Canadians don’t know what they’re missing. I wonder if Canadians can start making refugee claims in Florida because of Canada’s oppressive policies.
  16. Given the current level of risk, we must not allow the current level of state control over human behaviour to continue. It’s clear that we are giving up on the freedoms that made our country one of the greatest places to live. The article below makes it clear that our current authoritarianism may become permanent, and it’s from “mainstream media”: https://apple.news/AXekVAkcmTReyixcu_az1Zg
  17. Yesterday there was over a million Covid cases in the US, that we know of. Each day the provinces test new record numbers of Covid cases and we hunker down waiting for the other shoe to fall: a rapid rise in admissions to the ICU’s. Only it hasn’t quite worked out that way. Hospitalizations have risen but the stays are shorter and almost everyone who gets Omicron, representing about 95% of Covid cases, recovers within a week. The ICU’s have lost some capacity but aren’t anywhere near full on average (Ontario with 1100 ICU beds has about 270 in use). The bigger issue causing us to “slow the spread” by putting students back online and adding restrictions is the fact that we’re testing so many people who we’d never know were positive without the tests, people who are asymptomatic or have mild symptoms. Stop testing these people and they’d be working. The health workers administering the useless tests could actually help highly symptomatic patients. The time is here to focus our health care on treating very sick people, and not just people sick from Covid. Let people live normal unmasked lives, seeing people, going out, travelling, and taking care of their many other needs. The vast majority of our vulnerable population is fully vaccinated and has access to boosters. Those who are more vulnerable can take extra precautions. Mask up if you want to. Many people have had Omicron and many more will get it. Eventually just about everyone will and the consequences for our young and vaccinated population are cold or flu-like. We’ll be fine. It’s time to declare Covid-19 endemic and end restrictions.
  18. Good point. The population is mollified and hypnotized by their devices and drugs, paralyzed by fear through media hype, and infantilized by government control. Perfect conditions for totalitarianism.
  19. Schools are open in other developed countries. In most US states people aren’t wearing masks, including workers. Omicron is an exaggerated problem in Canada, well-suited to a gullible, overly compliant populous who don’t value freedom.
  20. When they’re all almost the same and almost equally disappointing, it’s hard to believe there are any real options in our so called democracy. All the parties seem to think that government overreach and micromanaging people is fine. Fake options. Canada is China.
  21. The damage is primarily the result of lockdowns and restrictions, certainly since widespread vaccinations.
  22. It’s so irresponsible how media will take a picture of a stretcher, mention that one hospital declared a “Code Orange”, and then use alarmist language. That code basically means that the hospital is preparing for an anticipated surge that hasn’t happened yet. Another example of manufacturing crisis. Hospitals are fine and people are recovering well from Omicron.
  23. Yes it’s Black Supremacy now, undisguised. Indigenous too. No race deserves better treatment than any other. Society has turned to new forms of racism under the moniker of “equity”. Anyone with a brain who’s honest knows it.
  24. So I hear your concerns, which is another reason to let Omicron flow, as it will come and go more quickly. After infection your immunity and resistance grows. Hospitals shouldn’t bother with testing people with mild symptoms and asymptomatic people anymore. It’s a waste of resources. Instead, focus on treating all highly symptomatic patients and continue to treat those with heart and other serious conditions. Prevention through vaccination is fine and good, but treating the seriously ill is the other essential piece. Forget testing and tracing. It’s a done deal. Omicron is everywhere. If you’re very vulnerable, get the boost, take extra precautions, and make sure you have access to good antiviral treatment in case of infection. A third of my organization got Omicron in the past two weeks, including a quite elder overweight diabetic woman and two other immune-compromised people. All recovered well. Our health care focus must shift and restrictions must be lifted. It has to happen. The non-Covid costs are simply too high, including the non-Covid health costs. I can understand waiting a few weeks to start moving in this direction, but we have to get there. Making kids stay home and apart from friends, out of sports and activities, and masked, to protect those who are now well positioned to protect themselves, is selfish. We need to give people their lives back, especially the young ones. Covid has become another one of life’s managed risks. It’s here to stay and doesn’t deserve more sacrifice than it’s already taken. After 22 months of masks and antisocial behaviour, how much longer do we pretend that we can keep this up?
  25. Yup this is media-hyped mass hysteria. Everyone I know who is really bright and does their homework knows this has become a manufactured crisis. If there were no restrictions right now, no tests, and no screening, we’d have a higher absentee rate in schools and workplaces for several weeks until Omicron infects everyone. My guess is that half the population ether got it and was asymptomatic, had mild symptoms and didn’t bother getting tested to find out, or they got a confirmed test result. It’s spreading rapidly. Hopefully it crowds out other variants and future variants are milder, which is typically the case. We’re fine. The vulnerable should get the boosts I think and should be more careful generally. That’s it. Drop all restrictions. Endemic.
