You support arbitrary rule that violates constitutional rights. Justin Trudeau won a minority government in September. The majority of the country wants mandates and restrictions eliminated. Even if they didn’t, you can’t remove citizens’ Charter rights except on a temporary basis with a high burden of justification. That burden hasn’t been reached. It hasn’t even been debated. The PM is disregarding both the will of the people and their constitutional rights. You can defend dictatorship all you want and I’ll defend our constitution.
-
Yes, but Trudeau is testing the waters. What a coward he is, refusing to address the protesters. Hide and bury your head in the sand, Trudeau. People aren’t stupid.
-
You don’t understand how a constitution works. Governments don’t get to suppress constitutional rights because they won an election.
-
I never thought I’d see my own government in Canada actively suppressing our constitution and citizens’ rights.

Well then Canada’s a write-off. Believe me, I’ve thought that at times lately and if it wasn’t for my job and family here, I’d be in Florida right now. I think the question we have to start asking ourselves as Canadians is whether we value freedom enough to ensure that Canada remains free. Our mainstream political parties so far have not stood up for our constitution. Yes we’re seeing a change of leadership in the Conservatives, but if the mandates and restrictions remain, we’ll know that freedom in Canada has been compromised beyond redemption. At that point we’re reliant on the support of forces for freedom beyond our borders. Sadly the Republican Party of the US is the only party standing up for the Canadian constitution. Is that what we’ve come to, the Republicans versus totalitarianism in North America? Are there really so few democrats in the Democratic Party and so few liberal-democrats in the Liberal Party of Canada? What the hell happened to our rights and freedoms and the mainstream parties whose job it is to protect them?

Why are you seeking the enslavement of the public? Are you that fearful of Covid? The politics of fear. Wow.
-
What do you think is underway? Trudeau isn’t recognizing Canadian sovereignty. Dr. Tam has said we’re waiting on international bodies to tell us our next steps. This is very much happening around the globe.
-
How dare you use the name Aristides, who was a Greek reformist leader who added rights for common people. Vaccine mandates and passports are a total violation of our constitution. If the government wants to dig in on this, look out, because people who understand what freedom and democracy mean won’t let this go. I’d suggest the odds over time are in favour of restoring rights and freedoms, but maybe not. We haven’t even gotten into the court challenge which is coming from Brian Peckford. Trudeau has blown it as a steward of our constitution.

Read Revelations by that same apostle John. In that testament the government mandates a code that you must wear to buy, sell, and have freedoms. It’s the final blow to humanity, the Apocalypse.

Here’s your real world: The Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms is null and void. If you carry a digital vaccine passport, the state will allow you certain freedoms. If you don’t, your freedoms are severely reduced, including the right to work in a number of fields. This is Canada right now. Protests are underway to try to restore our constitutional rights that you don’t support. By the way, if you support the protests you’re a radical freak and you will be removed from the legislatures where your protests can be heard. Canada is a digital totalitarian state. Some people are trying to protest and the government is moving against them without so much as a debate or discussion. I hope you’re proud of your government and that you feel safe.
-
Ha ha, rights? It doesn’t work that way. I’ve spent the last 10 or more days explaining, with many other posters, why it’s so critical to defend our Charter rights. That’s what the protest is all about. I may not agree with what you have to say but I’ll defend your right to say it. I’m vaccinated but you have inalienable rights as a citizen of Canada that must not be removed, no matter whether you’re vaccinated or disagree with my point of view. Either we all have rights all the time (any suspensions require a very high burden of justification) or we don’t. You don’t get to remove rights from some Canadians but demand them for yourself.
-
I have them in my organization, but thankfully they’re currently optional, because I don’t want to wear them. They’re thicker and harder to breathe through. I’ve been wearing masks daily at work for about 22 months. Triple vaccinated, all meetings virtual, lockdowns and WFH, no meals with co-workers, families in a rut. I want it all gone. Whatever to Covid. This is mass hysteria and my organization can’t give any of this nonsense up. Governments refuse to wean us off the endless hair on fire crisis. The only crisis I see is mandates and restrictions. I don’t know anyone who is worried about Covid. They’re all vaccinated and dressed like mummies.

No that’s you. It’s because of voices like ours that Trudeau is on the ropes.

“However, there are cases where the sovereign or their representative would have a duty to act directly and independently under the doctrine of necessity to prevent genuinely unconstitutional acts.[31][32] As a result, the Crown today primarily functions as a guarantor of continuous and stable governance and a nonpartisan safeguard against abuse of power.[35] The sovereign acts as a custodian of the Crown's democratic powers and a representation of the "power of the people above government and political parties".[36” It’s very clear to a growing number of people that the ruling party’s policies are counter to the will of the people. More than half the population opposes mandates and restrictions. What’s more, these policies contravene our Charter of Rights and Freedoms. The Governor General has a duty to tell the PM that he must discuss the pandemic measures with those who oppose them or else, according to her constitutional role, she must dissolve Parliament and force an election. The PM has a route out of this that he’s refusing to take. The public won’t forget if he continues to ignore them.

From Wikipedia: “executive authority remains vested in the Crown and is only entrusted by the sovereign to the government on behalf of the people. This underlines the Crown's role in safeguarding the rights, freedoms, and democratic system of government of Canadians, reinforcing the fact that "governments are the servants of the people and not the reverse".[29][30] Thus, within Canada's constitutional monarchy the sovereign's direct participation in any of these areas of governance is normally limited, with the sovereign typically exercising executive authority only with the advice and consent of the Cabinet of Canada, and the sovereign's legislative and judicial responsibilities largely carried out through the Parliament of Canada as well as judges and justices of the peace.[29] However, there are cases where the sovereign or their representative would have a duty to act directly and independently under the doctrine of necessity to prevent genuinely unconstitutional acts.[31][32] As a result, the Crown today primarily functions as a guarantor of continuous and stable governance and a nonpartisan safeguard against abuse of power.[35] The sovereign acts as a custodian of the Crown's democratic powers and a representation of the "power of the people above government and political parties".[36][37]”

Ha, you don’t know how Parliamentary democracy works. If the ruling party acts against the interests of the public, the GG can dissolve parliament, forcing an election.

You’re using some very old world terms. We’d have to go back to the hunger strikers of the Irish Rebellion or Louis Riel to find similar language. You’re following an oppressive playbook.

So it’s come across news outlets that the Ottawa police are cutting off food supplies to protesters. Starving protesters is an old inhumane tactic that recalls colonial moves against Indigenous during the construction of the CP Railway. It’s against our constitution to deny people the right to feed themselves. The Ottawa Police are committing crimes against humanity. “Earlier in the afternoon, Ottawa police announced they would ramp up enforcement on protesters in the city's downtown core, handing out tickets and announcing that anyone looking to bring "material aid," such as fuel, to protesters could be arrested. "Enforcement is underway," the Ottawa Police Service tweeted on Sunday afternoon.” CBC News

I think you’d be happier in China. Greater safety from Covid there.

No there’s a real grassroots movement to make Canadians free. It’s not just among Canadian-born rural folk either. All different cultural backgrounds are represented in this movement, but I think that some of the more recent immigrants are afraid to make waves. Much of urban Canada works for organizations that take a very politically correct official line in communications and policy. Obviously most Canadians want policies that are inclusive and warm and fuzzy. What’s happening in Canada, however, is that diversity of opinion and expression are no longer acceptable. Increasingly there’s a singularity of viewpoint, and anyone who questions the central narrative is a fringe radical moron. Essentially we are to obey far-reaching government controls over our conduct because government knows how we should be and what we deserve. This is the juncture of overreach, because it’s no longer about the public informing government policy, but public adherence to government groupthink and control. It’s anti-democratic and unconstitutional for government to violate our enshrined rights and freedoms and dictate behaviour to such an extent. Why? Because of Covid? No, after two years of widespread vaccinations, lockdowns, and restrictions, we can’t accept that excuse to maintain the suspension of our citizens’ rights. Vaccine passports and mandates are a total violation of our constitution.

Scrap mask mandates immediately. Most US states have. Make N95 masks available to those who want them. I think most people won’t bother with them, but the vulnerable should have that option.
-
According to you.
-
Just a little trucker protest. Your questions illustrate arrogance and a complete refusal to acknowledge the massive movement against mandates and restrictions across the country.
-
The courts are one venue in which the public can challenge policy. Protest and influencing MLA’s in the House of Commons is another. Appealing to the GG and Senate is another.
-
Not really. Sometimes parties are on the right side of history on issues and sometimes they are not. Trudeau has overplayed his hand. He thinks that having won a minority government in September entitles him to ignore a massive opposition to his government’s current pandemic policies. Policies can change. If Trudeau won’t change them or justify his actions in an open debate with the opposition and protest movement, then he is behaving like an arbitrary dictator.
