During my lifetime I think Canada was probably at its strongest under Harper when our dollar hit $1.10 US, our banks were lauded for being well-regulated, we were hosting international events like the Olympics, we were respected by China and the Yankees, and we hadn’t fallen into the morass of identity politics and hemorrhaging debt. Ironically I had been a staunch Liberal until then. I hadn’t voted for Harper in his first mandate. Canada has really lost stature and strength under Trudeau. Carbon taxes add to our already high fuel, food/goods delivery, and heating costs. National pride is racist/colonialist. It’s an endless victim and apology parade. The solace is pogey and weed. Don’t think or question. Let government tell you how to live and what you deserve. Now, when we should be celebrating reopening, our government has introduced further measures to override constitutional rights to put down opposition. It’s really sad. We just wait for permission from government to enjoy basic rights, scared of how we’ll be construed if we ask for them. Government ignores real, legitimate concerns. How far Canada has fallen.

Vaccine passports and martial law go together quite swelly, like peanut butter and jelly ?
-
I’m triple-vaccinated but I support people’s right to health discretion.
-
Stop pretending to care about people’s rights.
-
Oh yeah and his lawyer is a liberal candidate? Fucking ridiculous
-
Well they’re on the docket. In the meantime, enjoy your two-tier restricted society and martial law.
-
Some people do care and want the discretion to decide, because no one knows what can be added to the vaccine passport. Removing the Charter rights of the unvaccinated and humiliating them publicly, as our PM has done, is unethical.
-
She’s morally bankrupt too. The Liberals, NDP, and half the CPC should form a single party called the Communist Party of Canada.
-
Not true. The convoy is very much about vaccine mandates. Restrictions are certainly an important part of it.
-
The issue is vaccine mandates on truckers and federal workers, as well as the digital passports for travel and the “ArriveCAN” app for people who can afford smartphones and who are tech savvy. It’s of course discriminatory against the elderly and poor, just as the PCR test requirement is prohibitive to large families and the poor. Trudeau’s government doesn’t care. He’s alright Jack.

Good God, Michael, how old are you and QueenMandy? Are you that scared of what people living normal lives will do to your health? C’mon. We’re two years into this. Be fair to the younger generations. You’ve got triple vaccinated and masks available. I’m sure that your regional health can deliver groceries if you’re that fearful. You really want to see digital passports continue, unvaccinated people thrown out of work for wanting health discretion, and a PM who refuses to discuss the timeline for removing the mandates and restrictions when our allies are actively removing them? Who is being unreasonable? Of course when a government ignores real concerns people will push back. Now you’ve got your war measures imposed. It’s all unnecessary and demonstrates unresponsive and arbitrary government.

The thing is, Biden will sell out Trudeau to save his party’s support. Americans are more critical of their government. As mentioned, the US left is abandoning Trudeau. No one wants to be seen as the party of oppression. That’s why even Biden tried to declare the US reopened last July. The Dems are having internal battles. Our Liberals are too but so far the PMO’s office has kept his caucus in line. How much longer can Trudeau’s hold last? It’s all unfolding in real time.
-
Are you insane? You won’t be able to get everyone vaccinated and it will still spread. Omicron isn’t a big deal. I have it right now and feel fine. I’m glad you said what you just said because it illustrates that some Canadians, including our ruling class, are willing to destroy our way of life by continuing to make people live under these unnecessary mandates and restrictions. Wow. You do realize that even the blue states are lifting indoor mask mandates, including New York State? We’re really living behind an iron curtain here. It’s totalitarian Liberal groupthink, promoted by state-funded media.
-
Yes it does. Don’t you know anything about campaign donations? Michael Moore mentions Hilary Clinton receiving big payoffs from the pharmaceuticals. All legal.
-
That’s your dream isn’t it? You want to see normal people who are just demanding the restoration of their constitutional rights become radicalized so your draconian government can stomp them out and discredit them further. That’s been the playbook all along. Why not just move to China where you can live your dream of dissent being stomped out without any qualms?
-
You’re just blind to reality.
-
That’s honourable of you. I don’t hold US citizenship but I have property there and I’m a British citizen as well as a Canadian citizen. My family and work are here, so though I’d like to leave, it isn’t that simple. I just think it’s sad what Canadians have come to accept and even embrace from government. People are so unquestioning and reliant on government to tell them how to live, and that way of life is more restricted and less free than ever. The Charter continues to be ignored and the unvaccinated continue to be treated like second class citizens stripped of basic rights. The managerial class that implements the policies yet relies on the essential workers to live doesn’t even want to address the legitimate concerns of the protesters. It’s disgusting and I can’t ignore or forget this.
-
Yes. What was most disturbing about yesterday’s press conference and the parliamentary session was that Trudeau’s government never offered to give a timeline for the removal of mandates and restrictions. The official press never asked about this either. The Conservative motion to require government to provide this was defeated by the Liberals and NDP. If anyone on the left had any doubts about the complete arbitrariness of the continued and unnecessary suspensions of our citizens’ rights, yesterday should have left you with no doubts. The Liberals and NDP don’t care about our constitution or the people.

I just think government needs to get real. If they want to maintain these controls over people because they don’t think regular workers can handle personal responsibility and are low-life’s, might as well declare it publicly, extinguish the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, and declare Canada a totalitarian state. They could more or less adopt China’s system and make our Parliament a one-party system. Just don’t call it Liberal, because there’s nothing liberal about that party. Dissent can be officially banned as radical and dangerous to the integrity of the state. Canada would officially cease to be a liberal-democracy, but at least people would know where they stand and the people who hoped Canada would restore freedoms could finally accept reality and try to leave.
-
Yup, the cry for freedom in Canada and the government’s radical response to it and discrediting of the opposition speaks for itself. The greatness of Canada right now comes not from its out of touch totalitarian government but the people who have the courage to speak out against government overreach. That’s what’s catching on internationally. People around the world are waking up to the increasing controls that government has imposed on populations, controls that negatively impact the workers and marginalized the most.

Doug Ford was the Lockdown Premier
Zeitgeist replied to TrudeauSucks's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
No it isn’t. It can be traced to the Liberals stealing the NDP’s platform to get elected in JT’s first mandate. It’s gotten worse as JT became the identity politics post-national self-proclaimed China fanboy. Of course China has no respect for him either. He’s a mouthpiece of victimhood and statist overreach. Canada under Trudeau is a place where patriotism is shamed and people aren’t allowed to live freely because of anti-freedom mandates. I don’t like Canada right now. The truckers are trying desperately to revive it. I can only think that time will work against Trudeau. The Conservatives made a great point today when they said we should be celebrating opening up like other countries and have a firm date for this. Blair countered nonsense about going after the protesters. There will be no great reopening from this government. They’re dragging out the pandemic and making it worse. Trudeau will go down as the most dictatorial PM ever. Like father like son. See what I did there? Which father? Ford was mostly on the same page as Trudeau until he saw how unreasonable the PM became. Removing vaccine passports in Ontario was the right move and JT is increasingly isolated. -
You’re the one supporting the overturning of constitutional rights. You’re living in a dictatorship right now.
-
It’s incredible that our government now has the power to shut down the right to assembly. The Charter protections were taken from citizens. When citizens demanded their restoration after two years, the government took away their right to protest. Treating people who donated to this cause as though they’re funding terrorists sets such a dangerous precedent. Basically if the government declares your opinion as dangerous you can be defunded and silenced. I hope the whole country goes out to show their support. Would they try to put everyone under house arrest? Oh wait, we’ve done that already…Freedom apparently is a dirty word in Canada, only spoken by extremists.
-
This isn’t about the value of vaccination. It’s about continued fascist policies that violate our constitutional rights. We really could continue living under these conditions indefinitely. Trudeau won’t even give a firm timeframe.
-
Ford at least seems to be waking up. This should further isolate Trudeau. https://apple.news/AR2ybbZJ-THeISYlQ7eF0Vg
