  1. I consider you one of the most gullible self-loathing radical leftists on this forum. You carry no currency. You do realize that any criticism of the Islamic Republic is considered Islamophobic by many Liberals and Democrats?
  2. Acadia — French and English — is some of the most culturally interesting and beautiful parts of Canada. When added together, old English and French Canada are similar in size, each around 25% of the country. Almost 10% is Indigenous. The rest is somewhat Post-National State. There are interesting historic Asian enclaves in BC, Ukrainian and Scandinavian swaths of the Prairies, and countless small older ethnic communities, especially Italian.
  3. If you want to see old English Canada, spend time in Nova Scotia. Places like Kingston, the Rideau, and Victoria have it too. My fav is the drive from Niagara on the Lake to Niagara Falls, Winston Churchill’s favourite drive. PEI is also super quaint. I’m sure Newfoundland has similar vibes.
  4. Totally disagree. The Convoy was an internationally significant event that forced governments to back off of mandates and restrictions. If you don’t see that, I can’t help you.
  5. His point was that it required courage and strength to really make a stand, yet it was a critically important stance. Most people simply couldn’t afford the risk or were too scared to make the sacrifice. I do think if it wasn’t for the protests we’d see more government controls in place. Imprisoning the population and using surveillance and police to maintain it is an ancient form of oppression, but our technology and digital economy have brought new dystopian possibilities to totalitarianism.
  6. Yes that’s pretty much what I like about America: freedom and warmth — and New York City. New York State is left-wing loonie land though, like most of Canada. It really feels like the western world has been in decline for a few years, but the rest of the world doesn’t seem to be fairing well now either. I think much of this decline is self-imposed. I also don’t see any easy or quick fixes. We went from pandemic deprivations to economic stress, health fear to climate fear, and our young generations have confused ideas about gender, race, and identity, and inhuman ideas about economic growth and living standards. Not sure we’ll get out of these woods in my lifetime. Have to rely on your own strength and morality.
  7. Canada as it is now is a less desirable place to be than the republic to the south, except for the violence. Our cost of living is too high and the population doesn’t exercise its rights or present a plurality of ideas after years of government overreach and programming. I’m not sure that has anything to do with having a monarchy except that we do see a scary compliance here that is perhaps the result of being a smaller colonial power. Are we still the outpost waiting for instructions rather than the creators of our own destiny? Only now the instructions come from the WEF and UN rather than Britain.
  8. Michael is a typical Liberal who likes to say progressive sounding things that are only partly true because then when he actually lives his life benefitting from all the great aspects of “settler” culture, he can tell himself he’s a good person. Of course his views mostly just reaffirm typical ignorant young activist misconceptions that lack historical context, but they sound flowery so we should all pretend they’re truth and slam they guy who started this threat as Mike did, even though that poster said nothing inaccurate. It’s not about the truth or trying to discern it, it’s about saying progressive sounding stuff no matter whether your life really reflects it or you really believe it, because then you get to call others retrograde and pretend you’re especially noble. It’s actually the main reason we’re lost as a society now and very divided: lack of honest conversation and refusal to question half-truths.
  9. The radical left gives a free pass to sexism in Islamic countries because of their continuing fake revulsion at any criticism of practices in non-Western countries. Removal of clitorises is fine if it’s in Africa because only racists oppose certain African cultural practices. Telling women that they can’t leave home without a male escort and that they must cover up and stand behind men is fine if it’s in the Middle East because Eurocentrism. Apparently freedom and equality don’t matter outside our borders and having a cultural viewpoint is racist when it’s Judeo-Christian or simply democratic.
  10. But what attracted her? I’m not denying the importance of civilizing the brute, but the passion and spark matter a lot.
  11. Not really. What was attractive was the power and strength. Sure there’s a flaw to be fixed. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not promoting dominance or servitude. I’m saying that there are biochemical and physiological realities that make a mockery of some of our ideas about the fluidity of gender and the incorrect idea that gender is just a social construct. Biology informs much of what we establish as social norms. That doesn’t mean that there won’t be outliers, but that’s what they are. If we ignore the norms, stop recognizing traditional female and male qualities, and pretend that they’re all a choice and don’t have value to most people, that’s a lie and a disservice to the children we’ve been entrusted to raise as healthy and strong individuals. Does it mean that females and males can’t take on roles traditionally associated with the other gender? Of course not, though I don’t think it’s advisable to play with human hormones and reproductive systems unless necessary. Reconfiguring men to be able to give birth is probably a terrible idea.
  12. We need the oppressive, unscientific, inhuman woke-green puritan fakes out of office as soon as possible. The joke is getting too real. School boards assigning police to “protect” imagined victims against concerns about a male teacher who shows up to class with massive fake breasts, Trudeau showing off his flat distaste singing Queen on the eve of our honourable Queen’s funeral, children being told they’re racists or victims solely on the basis of the colour of their skin, carbon taxes during high fuel prices, ArriveCan, frozen bank accounts of legal protesters, Emergencies Act. This insanity must stop
  13. Well that’s why the next federal election is so important. I’m just not sure the majority of Canadians are fired up over what’s at stake. I also don’t know how much Poilievre will cave into international pressure. He certainly says the right things and doesn’t seem afraid of a fight.
  14. We should ship the melting water for human consumption. Problem solved.
  15. Yeah some coastal flooding. We’ll adapt easily.
  16. I celebrated it in my workplace. Played God Save the Queen and talked about her very worthwhile life. A shining exemplar of the strength of a woman.
  17. Canadian government treats Canadians like unworthy serfs. If the provinces can’t give their due to the longest running, arguably most successful monarch and our head of state, what does that say about our level of respect and lack of regard? Very poor.
  18. Climate action is for suckers.
  19. I wouldn’t mind Canada getting a few degrees warmer anyway. We can build dams.
  20. I have a great solution: End all carbon taxes and “climate action” spending, which will lower the cost of living for all. More people will be able to afford higher education and green technology. Production and energy will become more efficient and green as the world population ebbs and falls due to low birth rates mid-century. By the 2060’s global annual emissions will be much lower.
  21. Ha true. Even her death was a spectacle, though, like Kennedy’s. Seems to be how it goes. “Only the good die young.”
  22. I know I’m supposed to think really highly of her, but I didn’t like how she played the Good Witch of the East to Wicked Charles. It wasn’t the whole story, because she basked in the attention and enjoyed huge accolades but also lived a pretty charmed life. She seemed like a good person who deserved better treatment from her husband, but I don’t think she was Mother Theresa. It’s a sad story, a tragic death and a terrible loss for her boys. We’ll never know what really happened in that relationship, but something tells me there was plenty of blame to go around. She had the spotlight over Charles. Not sure how much it was taken versus given.
  23. I just don’t think people can handle much more “hard times” given the privations, fear, and losses of the pandemic. Hopefully the rate hikes taper and end very soon, the recession isn’t too long, and we can rebuild.
  24. Unless Poilievre essentially builds a firewall against China, the UN, and the Dem woke CRT nuts. It will be hard because of entrenched interests.
