With liberal left government, Canadians pay far more than other countries which have more conservative type of governments. The reason is liberal left ideology means INTERVENTION, fees, regulations, and taxes for everything they can possible do. This went as far as taxing the carbon dioxide that people released in the air in their normal life of driving their vehicles and heating their homes. Although it reportedly has been dropped on the consumer side, it will continue big time in the corporate or industrial side and be passed on through the price of goods and services. An example of the cost we must pay for a liberal left type of Socialist government is in the air fares in Canada. " Why are ticket prices so high? For starters, taxes and fees imposed by governments and airports account for 25 to 35 per cent of airfare costs in Canada. For example, “airport improvement” fees average $32.20 per departing passenger at Canada’s largest airports — compared to $6.47 in the United States and $16.38 in Australia (all figures here and below are in C$). For air traffic control (ATC), airlines pay charges based on distance, geography and other factors, and these costs are passed on to consumers. In a typical example, to fly a Boeing 777 in Canada, airlines must pay an estimated $802 in ATC fees, compared to between $192 and $478 in the United States and $493 in Mexico." Opinion: Bad federal policy increases airfares in Canada The interventionist, Socialist, type of government extends to everything in society. The health care system is another example. The costs associated with health care that the government pays are high for a number of reasons, which one can find through a little investigation or searching on the internet. This same principle can be applied to everything that government has their hand in and their hand is huge. Other examples are the cost of housing in Canada. The cost of homes has doubled in a relatively few years as a result of government's actions. The fact that Socialist policies are popular in Canada is because people demand every service imaginable. While many people's medications are covered by employer extended benefits plans and paid for through monthly premiums, the NDP and liberal left still want to replace all that with a government-funded pharmacare system. So a well-established private system would be abolished and a new system that might be a bad system would be funded by taxpayers. Nothing is free. Taxpayers must pay for the huge bureaucracy that would be required to run a public pharmacare system. If we could see the bureaucracy that runs the public health care system and the amount of money that is paid to bureaucrats we would probably be shocked. It is in the billions or tens of billions of dollars. What percentage actually provides health care to patients versus what percentage goes to administering the system would likely shock most people. The public service has been increased by a large percentage under the liberals and left-wing governments in Canada and you can be sure a lot of money is going to administration of the public services including health care. All of this must be paid through taxation. So when people vote for more government services, they are really voting for a tax and spend type of government. That also means more government debt, higher amounts of the annual budget to service the debt. At present Canada must pay as much money in interest payments of the federal debt as they contribute for the federal share toward health care, tens of billions of dollars.

Liberal Party Takes Lead in Polls
blackbird replied to TreeBeard's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
It seems the polls can shift a lot in a matter of a few weeks. So if the election is held in for example six weeks, the polls could shift a lot either way. Carney has reportedly made some blunders in answering questions from the media. He apparently refuses to answer some questions. If this occurs during the campaign, Carney could blow it big time and support could shift away from the Liberals and toward the Conservatives. I don't think Carney would do very well in a debate either. He has no experience as a politician, which is necessary for the top job. -
With the U.S. and China putting 25% tariffs on Canadian seafood and other things, the main objective of Carney's visit to the UK and France should have been to remove trade barriers between Canada and Europe and try to get a deal to trade our seafood and other things. Carney did nothing for trade. Canadian seafood producers are facing a serious situation now with a lack of places to sell their seafood. This is urgent; Carney should have done something.
-
Instead of going to the GG right away and showing he believes in democracy by calling an election, he jets off to Europe just like Trudeau. Throwing away taxpayer money to jet around the world and wine and dine on taxpayer's expense. Accomplished nothing. Didn't even attempt to remove trade barriers between Canada and the UK/France.
-
Normally it would apply during an election, but we are in different situation now. In a normal election, the sitting government would have a PM and party that was elected and the PM would hold a seat in Parliament. We are not in that kind of situation now. Trudeau resigned and the party chose a new leader. So that means the Liberals with their new PM do not have a mandate to act the same as a government which has a PM that won a mandate in an election.
-
The situation at present is Carney is a tentative PM chosen by the Liberal Party. He has no mandate to make any significant decisions or take major roles because he and his party has not yet been elected with the new PM and they are only in a minority position in Parliament. In fact, all indications are that the Liberals will lose a confidence motion if Parliament is recalled. Therefore he does not have a mandate from the Canadian people to do anything of any significance. That means he is restricted to act as a caretaker PM and an election must be called ASAP so Canadians will have a government with a real mandate. It is really simple. If he does anything major before an election, he will be seen as overstepping his authority.
-
He certainly does need to be elected. Carney doesn't even hold a seat in the House of Commons. He hasn't been elected and reportedly he might call an election within the next week. Right now, we don't even have a Parliament that can sit because the Liberals have lost the confidence of the members of Parliament although that hasn't been stated by an official vote yet. Everyone knows that the Liberals do not have the confidence of the Parliament. So Carney does not have the confidence yet to be acting in any significant role as PM. That's how the system works.
-
The fact is as I stated, Carney has no mandate. Tough if you don't like it being pointed out. It just shows his dishonesty in acting as if he has a mandate to deal with foreign relations. He has no mandate to do so. He is not even an elected member of Parliament. He is only a the liberal party's choice for the next PM. He is kind of caretaker PM but has no mandate to do anything of any significance. That's just how it works. I never said PP has a mandate to act as PM either. So why make stuff up?
-
Carney has not been elected yet to represent Canadians. Therefore he has no mandate to be representing Canadians. He is a lame duck Liberal choice for PM and does not yet have the confidence of the House of Commons. The caretake convention says he should not be doing anything significant on behalf of Canadians. That is just how democracy works.
-
There is something called the caretaker convention which means Mark Carney should not be doing anything until he has the confidence of the Parliament of Canada. He doesn't even hold a position as an elected member of Parliament. Yet he is flying overseas to represent Canada on the world stage, at taxpayer expense, at important international meetings and doing other things that only a Prime Minister who has the confidence of Parliament and the Canadian people should be doing. " Mark Carney may now be Canada’s 24th prime minister, but the unique circumstances of his appointment mean that he technically shouldn’t be allowed to do anything. No appointments. No new spending or taxes. No foreign policy commitments. Nothing at all that isn’t “routine,” “non-controversial” and “reversible.” It’s all part of the “caretaker convention,” a longstanding parliamentary tradition which holds that until a prime minister is able to “command the confidence of the House of Commons,” he’s not allowed to wield the full powers of his office. In fact, he’s not supposed to do almost any of the things Canadians typically associate with their prime minister. “Avoid participating in high-profile government-related domestic and international events,” reads an official Privy Council guide to the caretaker convention. It adds that this includes “international visits, and the signing of treaties and agreements.” Caretaker prime ministers are also asked to steer clear of “appointments,” “policy decisions,” “new spending,” “negotiations or consultations,” “non-routine contracts,” and “grants and contributions.” FIRST READING: Mark Carney's not really supposed to be doing anything He is acting as if he has the confidence of Parliament and Canadians though there is nothing to prove that. But that is just the ideology of Liberals for you. Liberals assume they are the natural governing party and don't really need to be elected and hold the confidence of Parliament.

So carbon tax Carney is eliminating the consumer carbon tax. But he says nothing about the caps on the oil and gas industry and the carbon taxes on industry, which hampers growth of the industries and prevents Canada from producing and selling more oil and gas on the world stage. The development of our natural resources and sale to other countries overseas could help to offset the harm that will come from Trump's tariffs. We have a lot of natural resources in the ground that we need to develop and sell to make Canada a prosperous nation. Carney was a outspoken defender of carbon taxes and a high representative on the U.N. war on climate change. I hope voters don't forget that. He and Trudeau already did a lot of harm to Canada.

Mark Carney's cllimate change fanaticism laid bare.
blackbird replied to I am Groot's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I didn't hear anything about Carney planning to take the environmental caps offs the oil and gas industry. We need to grow the oil and gas industry and start selling to more foreign markets. This will create more jobs and revenue for the government and increase the prosperity of Canadians. What will Carney do about the caps which are impeding the energy industry? -
A raw unfiltered look at Israel's enemy
blackbird replied to carepov's topic in The Rest of the World
I think eyeball is a hardened anti-Semite. He has been on this crusade against the Jews for some time on here. I doubt you can find any agreement with him. He doesn't accept that Islam is an historic opponent of the Jews and the west. Anti-Semitism is at least 1500 to 1800 years old in the world. Not sure where he is coming from. -
Canada Needs to Redirect Energy and Trade Away From U.S.
blackbird replied to Zeitgeist's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Conservative premiers are not spineless. Most premiers just know Canada has limits as to what it can do. Most premiers know Canada cannot shut down vital energy sources to the U.S. and Smith and Moe understand that. It appears you don't. Canada is dealing with the world's superpower. If Canada creates a national emergency in the U.S. they have the power to send in the military and reverse any shutdown of energy to the U.S. immediately. They have the power and the last word, not Canada. This was probably privately told to Premier Ford when he put 25% tariffs on electricity to three states and he immediately dropped the idea. That's the reality. -
I see the best way forward for Canada in the face of these tariff threats from the U.S. is to become economically independent of the U.S. That means we must change our whole system which is presently paralyzed by government red tape, taxes, and regulations hampering resource development, home building, and investment in Canada. This problem has existed for a long time and was created mainly by the Liberal and NDP government. Companies have pulled out of Canada because of the heavy hand of government against investment and resource development. If we really want to succeed we must change our thinking and government and get a development and resource oriented government. Even provincial government have caused problems by opposing resource development. We have had that problem with the BC NDP government which opposed the Trans Mountain Pipeline expansion for example. It is the only pipeline that carries oil to the west coast and Pacific port and Canada depends on it. It is telling that even the federal government recognized the necessity of the pipeline expansion and when the private company could not get it built because of all the opposition groups and the BC NDP government was against it, the federal government realized they had no choice and purchased it from the private company in order to get it built. However, they really had no choice because of it being the only pipeline to the west coast. But the federal Liberals and NDP still created an anti-development country and that must be abolished. If we really want to succeed and prosper, we need to develop our country and find other trading partners in the world. This will not happen overnight, but it must be the long term goal.

You are proof.

" We’ve seen massive investments in the energy sector go elsewhere, not because Canada lacks resources but because we have made it clear that investment here isn’t welcome. Take our oil and gas industry — one of the cleanest and most ethical in the world. It has been vilified and squeezed, while foreign oil from dictatorships with no environmental standards continues to flow into our ports. It’s insanity. Natural gas, one of the cleanest and most efficient energy sources, is being demonized by activists who don’t seem to care that other nations are expanding their use of coal. Meanwhile, we get lectured on carbon footprints while countries like China build two new coal plants per week. Does anyone truly believe Canada’s tiny fraction of global emissions is the problem? This isn’t about the environment anymore — it’s about control. The same people who want to shut down the oil and gas industry refuse to acknowledge that wind and solar are unreliable without a massive, stable energy backup. Instead of investing in practical, balanced energy solutions, including nuclear and cleaner fossil fuel technology, our government is obsessed with eliminating fossil fuels entirely — no matter the cost." There is a group of folks on here who have a Liberal left cult mentality. NO amount of reason or debate will change their minds. Liberal left ideology is a kind of god to them.
