  1. This information on Wikipedia helps explain why it took about half a century for this to come to the court cases in 1999. "The Mount Cashel Orphanage, known locally as the Mount Cashel Boys' Home, was a boys' orphanage located in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. The orphanage was operated by the Congregation of Christian Brothers, and became infamous for a sexual abuse scandal and cover-up by the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary and NL justice officials.[1 Mount Cashel Orphanage - Wikipedia
  2. Nice try at diversion but nobody will swallow it unless they are very naive. The topic is the news about the 104 million dollar settlement for the 292 abuse survivors of the Mt. Cashel orphanage in the Catholic church in Nfld. The Catholic church has a history of widespread abuse. This is important because a large percentage of the population belongs to the RCC including a large percentage of our leaders in Canada. What we should be asking why it took so many decades for this case in Nfld. to be settled and to get to this point. That is not justice. The answer is described on Wikipedia. A major coverup by the constabulary and the justice system went on for a least half a century. The Nfld. and Canada/s government and justice systems get a failing grade. How much of the justice system and authorities have been impeding or delaying justice? The victims have waited almost a lifetime to see some justice and it still has not been finalized and completed. Sexual abuse is not the only issue. The book The Vatican Billions reveals is has accumulated billions of dollars in wealth in the past 2,000 years through questionable means. They have exploited people's fear and used religion to maximum advantage to gain wealth. We need to remember the church is supposed to be a beacon and a strong defender of what is right and reject what is wrong. Something you seem to know nothing about.
  3. How many years since the abuse in the 1940s to the 1960s has this dragged on and the Catholic church has fought against it tooth and nail? Many have since passed away and will never see a settlement or compensation. I guess the strategy is to keep it dragging on unsettled as long as possible until all the victims are deceased. What victims remain must be getting very old by now.
  4. Part of Labour's plan to deal with the increasing number of stabbings: "Every young person caught in possession of a knife will be referred to a Youth Offending Team and will receive a mandatory plan to prevent reoffending, with penalties including curfews, tagging, and custody for the most serious cases." Does this really sound like a tough-on-crime approach? Not really. Is has the ring of a slap on the wrist which is the usual approach of the liberal, progressives in Canada. Catch and release, catch and release is so common in Canada too.
  5. The Labour Party claims to have all the solutions, but I would take that with a grain of salt. First of all just look at the word they use on their website, the title of their plan" "Labour Party Manifesto" Wow! Does that ever sound an alarm! Whenever the word "manifesto" is used beware. It has the same ring as Communist Manifesto or Socialist Manifesto. That is an ideologically driven agenda. Change – The Labour Party Sadly much of the population believe that government is like a father and can solve all problems and provide everything to everyone from cradle to grave. Canada is suffering from the same problem. Half of Canadians are reported to be supporters of Socialism. Canada is actually quasi-Socialist now and it is costing Canadians big time. That is one reason we have a cost of living crisis, housing crisis, and food costs crisis. In the UK, the conservatives fell into that trap of believing government could solve everything and the population believed they should. Government is just a reflection of what the population believes. So there is no solution. Everything will be downward. Anything government does costs money, and a lot of money. They have a tendency to waste vast amounts of money to do anything unfortunately. When we look at the scandals in the Canadian government operations, we see this. The arrivecan app that cost Canadians tens of millions of dollars to contract the creation of it. And on it goes.
  6. The Old Testament is and always has been important to Christians. You may be interested in this article. The O.T. was the only Bible Jesus had to refer to. It has much to teach us. It also is full of prophecy about the first coming of the Messiah. Also prophecy concerning the second coming of Christ. Both the O.T. and the N.T. condemn homosexuality. It opposes any extra-marital sex. But we have to be careful/gentle when dealing with that subject because we are all sinners. Christians have been saved by grace. There is nothing to boast of. 10 Reasons the Old Testament Is Important for Christians (thegospelcoalition.org)
  7. The book The Vatican Billions starts off: "Christ was born, lived and died in poverty. His church, is a multi-, multi-, multi-billion concern. How come that although she claims to be preoccupied with the riches of heaven, she is in reality one of the most formidable accumulators of the riches of the earth? When did it all begin? Where? How? What was the Church’s economic empire in the past? One thousand, five hundred or one hundred years ago? How vast is it now? Is it true that it is the most powerful financial entity of all times? If so, how many thousand millions does it handle? How much real estate? How much stock, trusts and bonds? How many shares in oil, motors, automation, electronics, hotels, air lines, chemicals, engineering and space corporations? Is it true that she has vast deposits of gold in Swiss, American and other banks? That she has more dollar assets than the most power¬ ful corporations of the U. S. A., larger monetary reserves than France, Belgium, Italy and Great Britain put together? That by the end of the present century she will control at least onethird of the total wealth of Europe and America? What are her tangible and intangible financial funds in most of the major countries of the world? Such questions have never been answered before. This book answers them." 8. " ST. JOHN'S, N.L. - The Roman Catholic Church has been ordered to pay settlements totalling $104 million to 292 survivors of historical abuse in Newfoundland and Labrador, including those at the now infamous Mount Cashel orphanage in St. John's. The decision Friday was met with relief, hurt and even grief by survivors who've endured a decades-long fight for justice, said lawyer Geoff Budden. His firm represents more than 200 survivors of abuse at the former Mount Cashel orphanage from the 1940s to the early 1960s. "Some get validation from this," he said in an interview. "They are happy that they were believed, that their claims were accepted and they're going to receive compensation ... but it triggers. It brings back memories, and it's a struggle." RELATED STORIES Canadian brings global fight for laws against clergy abuse to Holy See university Vancouver archdiocese, Catholic school deny wrongdoing in sex abuse case; sue alleged abusers Newfoundland archdiocese gives update on its process for dealing with abuse claims Residential schools in Canada: Visit our dedicated page for ongoing coverage And the fight is not over, he said: the church doesn't have enough money to pay the settlements. The totals published Friday include claims from Mount Cashel and other abuse cases involving the church over the past few decades, Budden said. So far, 292 abuse claims have been accepted, the court document said. Ten more are pending, and 65 were disallowed. The average entitlement is about $356,000, but they range from $55,000 to $850,000. It was the Mount Cashel case that allowed these settlements to happen. Through a winding series of court cases that began in 1999, Budden and his team successfully argued that the church was liable for physical and sexual abuse suffered by the boys at Mount Cashel at the hands of the Christian Brothers, a Roman Catholic lay order that ran the facility. The liability was cemented in 2021, when the Supreme Court of Canada refused a bid by the Roman Catholic archdiocese in St. John to appeal a lower court decision. The orphanage was closed in 1990 and demolished in 1992. The horrors that happened inside its walls precipitated a massive cultural shift away from the authority of the church in Newfoundland and Labrador. After the Mount Cashel case established that the church could be held responsible for the actions of its members, lawyers could make the same argument in other abuse cases involving the church, Budden said. Nine of Budden's clients from the original Mount Cashel file died waiting for a resolution, he said. The claims included in Friday's sum involved estates of roughly 30 people who were involved in court cases and died waiting for a settlement, he added. The archdiocese only has about $45 million on hand to pay these settlements. The cash was raised during ongoing bankruptcy proceedings, when it sold off properties in eastern Newfoundland, including the famed Basilica-Cathedral of St. John the Baptist in St. John's." Newfoundland church ordered to pay abuse victims | CTV News It seems kind of odd that the archiocese has 45 million dollars on hand to pay these settlements but the Vatican, which has billions of dollars, is not being asked to contribute. The book The Vatican Billions by Avro Manhattan describes the billions of dollars which the Vatican has accumulated over the centuries. They own real estate in countless places. 104 million dollars would be peanuts to the Vatican. Since the Vatican controls the church, one must wonder why they are not the main contributors to the settlements. Unbelievably, this book must be extremely rare as it is priced at $250 on Amazon. However, the good news is it can be read for free on the internet at the archive.org website. So now is the time to read some of it. Anyone who reads part of it will wonder why the Vatican escapes any responsibility to pay toward the settlement of these cases since they are probably the most wealthy organization in the world if you count their real estate, etc.
  9. Guess what? I just tried to post a video with some interesting fishing scenes on it and Facebook blocked it and said this: "In response to Canadian government legislation, news content can’t be shared." 11. This is just a scheme to tax internet companies and raise more money while at the same time censoring news and depriving Canadians of their free use of the internet.
  12. " The shocking response by Emergency Preparedness Minister Harjit Sajjan to revelations he prioritized the evacuation of Indian Sikhs before the takeover of Afghanistan by the Taliban leaves one question: Why is he still in cabinet? The Globe and Mail revealed recently that, as defence minister, Sajjan told Canadian special forces to prioritize the rescue of about 225 Afghan Sikhs as Kabul fell and Canada and its allies scrambled to get its personnel out of harm’s way. This country abandoned its citizens, plus scores of translators and other Afghans who had worked with our armed forces and were therefore at risk of reprisals from the Taliban. Meanwhile, precious resources were used to evacuate foreign nationals. Sajjan acknowledged this week that he received information about them from a Canadian Sikh organization. The Globe also reported the director of that group donated to Sajjan’s riding association at about the same time as the evacuation. And the unparliamentary response from a minister of the Crown? He called the reporting “Utter B.S.” and suggested it was motivated by “racism.” Ah, yes. The “r” response. When caught in an embarrassing situation by a news outlet, discredit the source and question their motives. This is the go-to response of Justin Trudeau’s government. It was the knee-jerk reaction when news broke of impropriety in the SNC/Lavalin scandal. Trudeau denied any wrongdoing: “The allegations in the Globe story this morning are false,” he insisted. “Neither the current nor the previous attorney general was ever directed by me nor anyone in my office to take a decision in this matter.” We all know how that ended. He suggested that questions about Chinese meddling in the Don Valley North nomination race of MP Han Dong were “anti-Asian racism.” Faced with these new and outrageous allegations, Trudeau’s government points the finger of blame at everyone but themselves, insisting (a) it’s fake news or (b) it’s racism. These reports detail a betrayal of Canadians and our friends overseas, who should reasonably have expected to be evacuated from Kabul. They were abandoned while this country’s military helped foreign nationals. At a time when foreign interference in our elections is top of everyone’s mind, Trudeau has no option but to ask for Sajjan’s resignation — or fire him." 14. The real question is how do we keep Communists and Socialists out of Canada or prevent more from coming in? Problem is they are already here. How do we convince them their ideology is destructive to Canada. Socialism is why Canada is tens of billions of dollars in debt and there is a cost of living crisis, housing crisis, and food price crisis.

  16. This CBC news item gives a lot of detail about this issue: "Then-defence minister Harjit Sajjan relayed information to the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) about how to rescue Sikhs in Afghanistan while troops were trying to get Canadians out of Kabul as it was falling to the Taliban in August of 2021. Sajjan said in a media statement Thursday that, as minister, he "did not order" Canadian Special Operations Forces to rescue Sikhs in Kabul. He said Sikhs in Afghanistan were not given priority over Canadians and other groups that Canada was intent on rescuing from a country that had just fallen to a group listed as a terrorist entity under Canadian law. Sajjan confirmed he did relay information to the armed forces provided to him by a Canadian Sikh group — a non-governmental organization (NGO) that was encouraging the Canadian government to rescue Afghan Sikhs and resettle them in this country. He said he provided the information "through the appropriate chain of command to assist the group of Afghan Sikhs who had been determined eligible for evacuation." "I relayed whatever information the NGO provided about the location and status of these Sikhs to the chain of command for it to use as it saw fit, in line with its operational plan on the ground in Afghanistan." The Globe and Mail published a different interpretation of those events on Thursday. Related video: Sikh charity refutes claims against Sajjan (CityNews) The paper, citing unnamed sources, said that Sajjan, who currently serves as the minister for emergency preparedness, "instructed Canadian special forces to rescue about 225 Afghan Sikhs" — members of a religious minority in Afghanistan — who were "not considered an operational priority for the Canadian military as they had no link to Canada." The military's stated priority during the evacuation was to support Canadian citizens, permanent residents and their immediate family members, as well as vulnerable Afghans who had assisted Canada during its military operation in the country. The government also identified other groups, including Afghan religious minorities and members of LGBTQ community, as potential evacuees to be resettled. After interpreting Sajjan's communications about the Afghan Sikhs as an order from the minister to rescue them, Canadian special forces tried to track the Sikhs down and bring them to the airport to be flown out to safety, the paper reported. The Globe and Mail said some of its military sources felt "Sajjan was out of line in pressing Canadian special forces to rescue the Afghan Sikhs" because the operation involved "intense planning and it meant fewer soldiers were available to screen people awaiting the last flights out of Kabul." Hundreds of people gather, some holding documents, near an evacuation control checkpoint on the perimeter of the Hamid Karzai International Airport in Kabul, Afghanistan on Aug. 26, 2021. (Wali Sabawoon/Associated Press)© Provided by cbc.ca The Globe and Mail says it was told by military sources the mission to rescue the Sikhs was a "logistical nightmare" that happened as Canadian forces were "trying to hurry and process people through who have Canadian passports." Speaking to reporters at an unrelated announcement in B.C., Sajjan said the Globe and Mail's story was "utter BS." He said it was approved government policy to try to evacuate Afghan Sikhs. "All effort was done to carry this out, to get as many people out as possible," he said. Asked if he understood his comments to the military to be a direct order to rescue Sikhs, Sajjan referred reporters to his written media statement. When reporters asked if he intervened to try to help Canadians or any other vulnerable or religious groups get out of Kabul as the Taliban seized control, Sajjan again referred to the written statement. The statement does not address that matter. When asked if it was appropriate to intervene at all in the rescue mission, Sajjan said it's the job of the defence minister to "execute the government policies of the day." Sajjan suggested that his actions are only now being construed as improper because he's a Sikh. Sajjan said he wouldn't be getting questions about his efforts to help Afghan Sikhs "if I wasn't wearing a turban." Sajjan said something similar in his media statement: "I can only surmise that if I did not wear a turban, no one would question whether my actions were appropriate." That sentiment was echoed by the World Sikh Organization, an advocacy group. "Allegations that Minister Harjit Sajjan acted inappropriately are unfounded and appear to be influenced by bias against his Sikh identity," the group said in a media statement. The WSO said it wasn't just Liberals who were trying to secure safe passage for Sikhs. The organization said a group of 25 Canadian MPs, including Conservative, NDP and Green members, wrote to then-Immigration Minister Marco Mendicino in July 2020 — a year before the fall of Kabul — calling for a special program for Afghan Sikh and Hindu refugees so that they could be brought to safety in Canada." 17. Yes, Facebook used an URL to block me from posting a video of a guy building an ATV and it said it was "news". The algorithm appears to block any link with msn in it. That is the problem. Not everything from msn is news. My link about building an ATV from msn was not news. Facebook is trying to use URLs but obviously it is not working properly. Not all URLs are news items.
  18. You are obsessed with the word "algorithm" as if that can filter out the news from everything else. No it can't. Algorithms are simply man-made programs. They cannot do that job as I have shown with this OP. They filtered out a video about a guy building an ATV which is not news. That's what algorithms do. They are not humans. I don't think you understand that AI or an algorithm can not separate news from other content that people post. That is the problem in a nutshell. To screen out news it would take actual humans to read every post and that is not feasible on Facebook because of the size of the platform and number of users. It would not be economic to try to use people to censor every post. There are millions of postings every day.
  19. I think you are going off on a tangent. That has nothing to do with the fact the governments regulations are destroying freedom to post thing that are not news. They have taken a sledge hammer to kill a fly and are causing anarchy on the internet and denying freedom of expression. They probably don't even understand themselves the effect of their regulations. They are out of touch with reality.
  20. Read my whole comment which was 10 hours ago. I never changed my tune. You misunderstood what I said. I said " I think I already said what social conservatives believe. First and foremost they believe in Christian principles, which involves worshiping the true God of the Bible and shunning evil. " I was referring to social conservatives. I was describing "Social conservatives". Social conservative believe in Christian principles. They are a very small part of the Conservative Party of Canada. So you are correct, social conservatives are not the Conservative Party of Canada.
  21. None of that is anything near the size of Facebook. Do you have an actual link to show Google has a social media website of any significance? I can not find a social media platform that is specifically a Google platform? What is it called?
  22. Canada risks “much more censored & surveilled” internet | Watch (msn.com)
  23. What social contact? Can you explain? FB never signed up because it would be impossible to manually look at every link that people post with millions of users. That is why this kind of government control is senseless. It is only causing harm.
  24. That is pure fiction. The Conservative Party of Canada has no plans or platform to do any of those things. You must be living in an alt reality. Some would like to outlaw abortion, including myself, because it is killing humans, but that is not the position of the Conservative Party (unfortunately). Canada is a heathen country and many people have no morals or very low morals when it comes to things like abortion and teaching sexual orientation and gender identity in schools. I oppose those things, but I am not the party. Canada is going downhill and will be a third world dump before long.
