Vimy Ridge Battle 100th Anniversary Today
herples replied to blackbird's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
My great grandfather was on the German side. His position was in artillery. When he moved to BC he threw most of his medals and a gun into the Fraser river. -
I would say Identity politics is a subset of partisan politics.

Another USA warning to NATO members.....
herples replied to Army Guy's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
The US should be pushing for a reformation of NATO rather than demanding allies to pay up to keep American presence in Europe. -
Our soldiers suffer while caught in the middle.

Something the UK also engages in creative accounting for NATO spending. http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/mod-accused-of-using-creative-accounting-to-meet-nato-commitment-on-defence-spending-a6993526.html As the article points out the accounting is within NATO guidelines. No different than what Canada would be doing. -

Are our kids falling behind?
herples replied to ThomasTigerino's topic in Health, Science and Technology
The issue is that whenever kids get into trouble or do poorly at school it is never the student's fault it is the teacher's fault. We blame the people teaching instead of making kids take responsibility for their actions or lack of. Kids also hear it at home how teachers are unfair and don't know what they are doing or that the subject being taught has no relevance. -

I think the issue is Americans and Canadians are disrespectful to teachers and Asians are not. -

Another USA warning to NATO members.....

Russia is a country the USSR was a group of countries. The attempt to surround Russia will not create any desirable response. However viewing NATO as obsolete does not mean it has to be dismantled it needs to change it's goals to meet the challenges of today. NATO is too important for the US to get rid of or to sanctions member states over military spending. -

After the fall of the Soviet Union NATO became obsolete. The US won't do anything to shake the boat too much which is why they will continue to complain about freeloaders. -
Iran won't bomb Israel because that won't get it anywhere in terms of support or benefits other than being a smoldering crater. Israel doesn't believe Iran will bomb it but it knows that an Iran back on it's feet economically would make it a more stronger force in the region.

It is only one strata council that is doing this and I am most confident the human rights tribunal will rule in Andreas Kargut's favor. More likely the strata will be forced to adopt English to Mandarin translations. -
I believe provinces are given leeway to how that tax is implemented.

While not the result of carbon taxes it self carbon taxes are no different than any measure to deter pollution. Those measures push companies to adopt better technologies or practices so they don't get fined or taxed more.

Cleaner tech reduces the impacts of production for instance in Quebec aluminum smelters have reduced their emissions and doubled their production. https://aluminium.ca/en/communications/press/185/after-reducing-ghg-emissions-by-30%25-quebecs-aluminium-smelters-are-ready-to-assist-the-transportation-sector-with-its-efforts Ontario bungled an attempt to foster green tech but that had more to do with the provincial government than green tech itself. http://www.nrcan.gc.ca/energy/renewable-electricity/7295

China is implementing an emissions trading scheme based on pilot emissions trading scheme based in Beijing, Chongqing, Guangdong, Hubei, Shanghai, Shenzhen and Tianjin this year. It is also the largest polluter.

Lower Emissions, incentives to invest more into cleaner technology for existing industries, incentives to move towards renewable energy. I won't disagree that a carbon tax will increase the cost of goods but that is why companies invest in better technology so there is an offset in cost from carbon emissions. The US is taking a step back with coal since it is being replaced by natural gas. On the global stage countries can out tariffs on American goods for not sticking to it's responsibilities to the environment. I agree we won't know what NAFTA will look like or if it will ever be touched upon by Trump.

What are we going to losing with Carbon taxes?

Well the Palestinians technically do have a claim since they also inhabited the region. -
Canada - a wholly owned province of China

If China wanted to hack Canada they wouldn't need a Canadian company to do it through. If anything removing protectionist policies is better for consumers, which is us, in the long term.
