America under President Trump
?Impact replied to betsy's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Yes, Canada builds bridges and Trump builds walls. -
Get ready for the next ice age, global warming fanatics.

That is a vast mischaracterization of what happens. Yes, more sediment may accumulate on atolls as the sea level rises, but that does not mean it rises. It also does not mean that more sediment will continue to accumulate, just that we have observed some in recent years. The sediment has to be harvested from somewhere. What is there has not risen. You are also ignoring the many other issues like the storms that have hit the Philippines and other places. I agree that `tipping point` is a misleading term, there needs to be more definition of what can be expected. -

Yes, the 2 degree limit could be too much if you happen to live in some of islands in the Pacific. -
Keep you knees together said the judge.

There are very clear reasons why not to support Northern Gateway, some to do with the pipeline but most to do with the terminal. Energy East is something the industry should have focused on a long time ago, they are the ones late to the party. I expect the industry will not push it so much now that there are 1.8 million barrels/day of new pipeline from Alberta approved.

In other words I hate Trudeau, I have no logical reason to but I just do, so I will make up anything to support my argument.

We are a bilingual country, should we send all the English to the gas chambers? Despite the inflated rhetoric you hear from the likes of the Fraser Institute, bilingualism is not a big cost burden unless you want to kill off half the population. What exactly do you think multiculturalism costs? Save a few bucks from getting rid of the St. Paddy's day parade? Yes, refugees are a financial cost but we also have obligations. We could save a thousand times more by not sending our aircraft to bomb foreign countries and then we would also not have the follow-on refugees.

Let's see, Harper took credit for Canada being able to weather the 2008 recession. Not only did he deserve zero credit, in fact if his ideas would have been implemented we would be in far worse shape. In that case it is crystal clear he deserved none. I don't know what you are specifically referencing above. I have heard Trudeau welcome the approval of Keystone XL from Trump, that is hardly taking credit for it. He did however approve the other pipelines recently so that is credit he does deserve. Both he and Harper have had the same stance on Keystone XL, so the last hurdle was none of their doing.

Keystone XL to Go Forward, Per Trump
?Impact replied to jbg's topic in Canada / United States Relations
Singing a proclamation is not the same thing as getting something done. Lets wait and see if he actually accomplishes anything. Does unemployment go down, does the economy grow, does he lower the debt, do we have less violence/terrorism, does the balance of trade improve, etc. Real accomplishments and not photo-ops signing piece of paper. -
What specific dams are you talking about? Some are shutdown because the infrastructure is old and no longer stable, other are shut down for economic reasons. Not a single dam is shut down so we can buy more expensive power.

That might make the most sense, because after the recent pipeline approvals from Trudeau and now Keystone XL from Trump that makes an additional 1.8 million barrels/day capacity out of Alberta. I see the business case for EnergyEast drying up, so TCPL will not need the pipe. -
The rich people are good at coming up with excuses why they should pay the lowest taxes of all. Tax rates are completely, 100% meaningless. The byzantine tax code is designed by rich people (through their lawyers) to benefit them, and put the tax burden on the rest of us.

Until the country shuts down because of its massive dependence on illegal labour. Store shelves will stop being stocked, it will be like the old days in the Soviet union. Trump hotels will stop being built, their elevators will stop functioning, rooms will no longer be cleaned, etc. -
No the left wants to open up the discussion to be about all people with orange hair, just like the non-left want to talk about Islam instead of terrorism.

Thanks to those who self identify as non-leftists, this situation has been allowed to develop. Decades of cuts to social programs have caused this problem.

Yes and no. Absolutely the political systems are quite different, as is accountability in them, but if you look at the votes there was certainly a strong partisan factor to consider. If the same held true in a majority government in Canada, it might be difficult to remove a Prime Minister in similar circumstances. I wouldn't say one system is easier than the other, or better (more accountable) than the other, they are different and that difference will be affected by many factors.
-
How many US Presidents were removed from office compared to how many Canadian Prime Ministers? Andrew Jackson and Bill Clinton were acquitted, and Richard Nixon resigned before any impeachment proceedings. I am not aware of any Canadian Prime Minster being removed from office, or even getting that close. Certainly minority term Prime Ministers have been removed by losing a vote of confidence, but that is our normal democratic process.

Agreed, that is why I specifically addressed the part of your message on radio. While I would't label the television as liberal, it certainly further from conservative as well.

We all benefit from the economy, and taxes are the means in which that economy is managed. You are welcome to move to Somalia and live in an environment with lax regulation and deal with trying to build a stable business there. If you want the stability and growth opportunities that Canada provides, then participating in the system that builds and maintains them is essential. Yes that system is flawed, please put your name forward to try and win support and fix those flaws.

Great, start a thread about Trudeau being boring. This thread is about Trump's compulsive lying.

Opposition can be constructive or destructive, you decide. Pretending there are not issues with nuclear power is not an answer. Address the issues.

I think the President needs his safe space, we wouldn't want a snowflake to melt.

I have yet to find a single Canadian talk radio channel, from anywhere across the country, that is not Conservative. I've spent a lot of time driving from coast to coast, and other than the odd phone-in show on CBC which are rare, this country is dominated by Conservative talk radio.

The Art of the Scam. Negotiate terms, and then negotiate some more, sign contract, violate contract and demand a renegotiation, and finally don't pay for what is delivered. Business ethics Trump style.
