Judge gives it to the NSA
Shady replied to GostHacked's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Everyone's heard of doctor shopping right? Well, this is a case of court shopping. The ACLU has been shopping this lawsuit around for quite a while. It's not a suprise they finally found a judge sensitive to their agenda. However, have no fear, it shall be over-turned. -
I absolutely agree. It saddens me that France and Germany have failed the peace process so badly. For the two supposed European powers to make a contribution of a grand total of 400 troops (all from France) is an abomination. Especially after their initial offer and suggestion. They've totally rendered themselves meaningless to any future peace talks. At least the rest of the world knows now not to waste their time including any of these two nations in future discussions. Hopefully Netanyahu will take power soon, and do what's necessary, the right way, instead of the easy way.

OH DAMN! Lieberman leads opponents in new poll BOSTON (Reuters) - U.S. Sen. Joseph Lieberman, a three-term Democrat now running as an independent candidate, leads the man who beat him in last week's primary vote by 12 points in a three-way race, a poll released on Thursday shows. Link Wait, shhhh, I think I can feel it. What's that you ask? It's JOEMENTUM!!!! -
You're exactly right. Death to unborn babies but not to murderers. If that's "progressive", leave me out.

It's from months ago, and it's a non-issue because all the NYT said was that the government was monitoring financial transactions. We already knew that. Nonsense. I would hardly call a couple of months ago, "ancient". Of course we knew that financial transactions were being monitored. But we didn't know the details, until The New York Times decided to out a legal, covert program under the guise of news.

I saw him tonight on Hardball. He's an interesting guy. I'm not sure if I believe all his claims, but you gotta figure he's right about some stuff. -

Actually, I definitely do. Ultimately, it'll be technology that provides us with the necessary solutions. -
Al Gore's "Inconvenient Truth" tops "Break up"
Shady replied to gerryhatrick's topic in Political Philosophy
Here's some additional incovenient truth. Public records reveal that as Gore lectures Americans on excessive consumption, he and his wife Tipper live in two properties: a 10,000-square-foot, 20-room, eight-bathroom home in Nashville, and a 4,000-square-foot home in Arlington, Va. (He also has a third home in Carthage, Tenn.) For someone rallying the planet to pursue a path of extreme personal sacrifice, Gore requires little from himself. ... Then there is the troubling matter of his energy use. In the Washington, D.C., area, utility companies offer wind energy as an alternative to traditional energy. In Nashville, similar programs exist. Utility customers must simply pay a few extra pennies per kilowatt hour, and they can continue living their carbon-neutral lifestyles knowing that they are supporting wind energy. Plenty of businesses and institutions have signed up. Even the Bush administration is using green energy for some federal office buildings, as are thousands of area residents. But according to public records, there is no evidence that Gore has signed up to use green energy in either of his large residences. When contacted Wednesday, Gore's office confirmed as much but said the Gores were looking into making the switch at both homes ... As executor of his family's trust, over the years Gore has controlled hundreds of thousands of dollars in Oxy stock. Oxy has been mired in controversy over oil drilling in ecologically sensitive areas. ... Gore receives $20,000 a year in royalties from Pasminco Zinc, which operates a zinc concession on his property. Tennessee has cited the company for adding large quantities of barium, iron and zinc to the nearby Caney Fork River. USAToday It's just another case of limousine liberals telling the rest of us how we should live our lives. -
How is it an "ancient" talking point, and why is a non-issue? I disagree with your premise.

It becomes even more difficult when you have The New York Times briefing terrorists on what kinds of programs the government is assembling to combat the threat.

Lieberman Leaving Dems?
Shady replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Of course Lieberman won't get all of the Republican vote, but he'll get some of it. When you mix in strong support from Independants, as well as strong support from some Dems, it's easy to see why he still has a very good chance to retain his senate seat in November.Senator Joe Lieberman’s decision to run as an Independent sets up a lively campaign season for Connecticut voters. In the first General Election poll since Ned Lamont defeated Lieberman in Tuesday’s primary, the incumbent is hanging on to a five percentage point lead. Lieberman earns support from 46% of Connecticut voters while Lamont is the choice of 41%. A month ago, the candidates were tied at 40% each Link -
I really don't think it's a big deal. With the Lebanon/Israel thing going on, and the new attempted terrorist attack, the AIDS Conference probably isn't the biggest priority right now.

Rue, Black Dog is one giant steaming double standard. What you have to realize is that the photos were doctored in a way that's acceptable to Black Dog. If it was the other way around, then he may have a problem. But you can't take him seriously. He's affectionately known as Black Troll. Cause that's all he is now.

Maybe, but these are Connecticut Republicans, not Texas Republicans. Socially, they tend to be less conservative. Which is why northeastern Republicans look more like Olympia Snow and Lincoln Chaffee and maybe, in a sense, Joe Lieberman. Republicans may be developing into a big-tent party. -

Rasmussen Reports began polling the Ned Lamont-Joe Lieberman general election match-up last night. After 375 interviews, preliminary numbers show Lieberman ahead of Lamont by 3 percentage points. Republican candidate Alan Schlesinger is a non-factor in the single digits. The last Rasmussen survey of a three way general election found Lamont and Lieberman tied at 40% with Schlesinger at 13%. It appears Lieberman is gaining ground primarily among GOP voters. Political Wire Uh oh. -
For everyone's information and amusement, the kook-left's take on this subject, is that the plot was a Bush/Rove plot to raise Bush's poll numbers. I wish I was joking.

My point is that, before WWII, America was not an interventionalist country. So your "age-old" characterization is not an accurate one. The Monroe Doctrine doesn't apply, at all. I'm sorry if I gave that impression. However, my beef was with your characterization of America's interventionalism as "age-old". Which it obviously isn't.

I disagree. I'm simply saying that Lieberman narrowly lost his primary over one issue. One cannot deny his record. He's been a strong democrat for 18 years. Apparently one issue over a 2 year period erases all of that. I never heard the same complaints made against John Kerry in 2004. In fact, during the campaign, he stated the following:But on Aug. 9, 2004, when asked if he would still have gone to war knowing Saddam Hussein did not possess weapons of mass destruction, Kerry said: “Yes, I would have voted for the authority. I believe it was the right authority for a president to have.” CBS Quick, somebody morph Kerry into Bush! Because they know, like him, pulling out of Iraq prematurely, would be an absolute disaster for America and the world. -
No offense, but you two really don't know what you're talking about when it comes to America. Lieberman didn't go down in flames, he lost by a few percentage points and still has a better then average chance of retaining his senate seat in November. What "age-old" foreign intervention culture? Have you ever heard of the Monroe Doctrine?

New Kiboda tractors! Well then, let's look the other way at all the political prisioners and lack of human rights and freedoms.

AP Beirut photo faces questions A woman has made two appearances in photographs used by the Associated Press and Reuters, allegedly wailing over the destruction of her Beirut home. US bloggers have however noticed that photographs were taken two weeks apart from each other, according to times stamps on the images, and that the photographs were taken in different locations Link Here we go again.

Nonsense. The rest of the world trades with Cuba, including Canada. And what does a trade ban have to do with basic human rights, such as freedom of speech? Castro locks away and kills people who disagree with him. Why? Because he's a dictator. It's the same reason he's one of the richest men in the world, while his country is one of the poorest, and why he's been in power for 57 years. Because he's a dictator.

Lieberman Leaving Dems?

How would having two Republicans on the ticket hurt the Dems? As for his independant bid, it's all to easy to hang the "sore loser" tag on him. He's clearly putting his own personal ambition above all else. It's pretty disingenuous to call Joe Lieberman a Republican. The guy had a 90% Dem voting record. Yes, the one issue he deviated from the far left party line was the Iraq war. That makes him a Republican? I don't think so. It's a funny thing now, since Democrats can't defeat Republicans in elections anymore, they've turned to defeating other Democrats and pretending it's a victory. I love it! -

Today's the big day. It should be interesting. I'm not really sure what's going to happen, although it looks as though Ned Lamont goes into today with a 5 or 6 point lead.
