  1. Looks like Harper navigated us through the storm. Three cheers for Stephen!
  2. Probably at a private health clinic again.
  3. Yep. The leftwingers were definitely on the march at the time. Did he ever specifically say he was wrong? It'd be nice if he apologized for such an abhorrent opinion. Any similar views of Tom Douglas, held by anyone else, no matter who, is equally despicable.
  4. Yeah, he shot them down after seeing what type of evil his kind of theories could lead to (ie Nazi Germany). You don't get props for being sane. Which statements?
  5. It's not necessarily politicians manipulating ignorance. It's the product of free speech. Most conspiracy theories originate from private citizens, not public officials. There's always going to be a small fraction of people who believe something out of the mainstream. It has nothing to do with politics.
  6. Not true. It's thanks to private clinics that wait times on certain tests and procedures have been shortened. And private health insurance shouldn't be illegal in Canada.
  7. It could be because of the giant recession everyone's going through. Let the arts festivals fund themselves. Poor people need food, and sick people need shelter.
  8. I call complete bullshit on that. You cannot get a CAT scan or MRI the next day. Sorry. Actually you can, if you're a cat or dog, but that's it.
  9. There's been a false choice setup, by mostly those of you on the left. It's not a choice between Canada's system, and America's system. There are other ways, and other systems to look at, in order to make ours better and more efficient. Take Germany's, private/public system. I wish we could do something similar here, but unfortuantely, the hard leftwing in this country, won't budge even an inch, even when it means the lives of people who are sick. YouTube
  10. Really? Which super-powers were we following? Which geo-political quagmires?
  11. The Birthers are just like the Truthers. The complete idiots who believe 9/11 was an inside job. Although, most of those idiots reside on the left. Thankfully, they're the Dems problem.
  12. I live in Ontario, and pay $134 per month for my car insurance. However, I'm with Allstate, and if you have two or more cars insured with them, you get a 20% rate reduction. So pretty soon, I'll be paying even less.
  13. If you don't put much value on polls, that's fine. But you're the one who originally cited a poll. So maybe you need to discuss things with yourself, and decide whether they're valuable or not. Perhaps they're only relevant when they only strengthen your agrument? Anyways, on to fun facts about Tom Douglas... 1. He advocates for compulsory certificates of "mental and physical fitness." 2. He advocates for a 7 day public notice before marrying. 3. He advocates for putting "defectives" on a state farm, or in a colony where decisions could be made for them by a competent supervisor. 4. And his piece de resistance, sterilization of the mentally and physically defective. "The subnormal family presents the most appalling of all family problems. "Because this class tend to intermarry... the second and third generations are nearly always worse than the first. The result is an ever increasing number of morons and imbeciles who continue to be a charge upon society." -- Tommy Douglas "Sterilization of the mentally and physically defective has long been advocated, but only recently has it seeped into the public consciousness. From the day when Plato wrote his Republic to the present, eugenists have advanced various solutions to the problem of the defective, but sterilization seems to meet the requirements of the situation most aptly." -- Tommy Douglas He is...the greatest Canadian.
  14. Or if the Rev. Wright issue had come up in January, instead of March.
  15. You poll is from June. Things have changed... USA Today/Gallup poll released Tuesday. 44 percent of those questioned in the survey approve of how Obama's dealing with health care, while 50 percent do not. CNN ... In addition, more respondents said government-managed solutions would make the health care situation worse than said they would make it better or keep the situation the same. Asked what effect a government-managed health care coverage option would have on access to health services, 40 percent said it would make the situation worse, 38 percent said it would make it better and 22 percent said it would remain the same. Asked what its effect would be on the quality of health care, 42 percent said it would make health care worse, 33 percent said it would make it better and 25 percent said it would not have an effect. Nearly half of respondents — 44 percent — believe government-managed coverage will increase the price of health care. Only 27 percent think a government-managed health care system would lower costs, while 29 percent said prices would remain the same. Politico
  16. Because nothing's really free.
  17. I agree. I'm not a huge Ignatieff fan, but he's absolutely right. Apparently telling the truth, turns off "progressives." I say too bad. Everyone should have to live in reality and not some make-believe progressive fantasy world.
  18. I find the reference to Canada's so-called "Pearsonian peacekeeping traditions" even more ridiculous. Canada's real tradition was WWI, and WWII, and Korea. It's so-called "Pearsonian peacekeeping traditions" only started after the Liberals gutted the military. They had no choice but to "peace keep."
  19. More interesting news about Obama's stimulus... ANALYSIS: States Hit Hardest by Recession Get Least Stimulus Money the states hardest hit by the recession received the least money. States with higher bankruptcy, foreclosure and unemployment rates got less money. And higher income states received more. Link
  20. According to the link that was provided, it's actually 40 km/hour. So you're right, they can't even come close to the minimum speed limit. I predict a 1,000,000% rise in road rage.
  21. That was never my argument. That was your strawman argument. I don't think teacher's are getting paid too much. I certainly didn't say that, and I haven't seen anybody else say that either. That's complete nonsense. That's also complete nonsense. Funding [edit] Funding for K-12 schools According to a 2005 report from the OECD, the United States is tied for first place with Switzerland when it comes to annual spending per student on its public schools, with each of those two countries spending more than $11,000 (in U.S. currency). [61] Despite this high level of funding, according to the OECD, U.S. public schools lag behind the schools of other developed countries in the areas of reading, math, and science. Wikipedia Taxes don't need to be higher, programs need to be better. Again, unfortunately, teacher's unions, trial lawyers, and bureaucracies won't let real reform take place.
  22. Tax rates don't need to soar. Because spending on education and healthcare isn't the problem. America already spends more per student, than any other country in the world. And America already spends more per patient, than any other country in the world. The problem is with the programs themselves. Unfortunately, teacher's unions and trial lawyers won't allow for real reform of these broken programs.
  23. Unemployment is at 9.5 percent, even though the White House predicted in January that with the stimulus bill, it would rise to only about 8 percent. NPR And it looks like unemployment will be over 10% very shortly. WASHINGTON (Reuters) -- President-elect Obama said Saturday an analysis of his stimulus proposals shows that between 3 million and 4 million U.S. jobs could be saved or created by 2010, nearly 90% of them in the private sector. CNN Apparently it's gonna create 3 - 4 million jobs, but the economy has shed almost 3 million jobs since it was signed into law. But at least Joe Biden's being honest when he said the following... We 'Misread the Economy' ABC News Unfortunately, the President is still in his own imaginary world... July 11 (Bloomberg) -- President Barack Obama said his $787 billion stimulus bill “has worked as intended” Bloomberg Sounds like MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!
  24. That link is from 2007. Apparently the car is available for purchase in the U.S. If there's a so-called pent-up demand, then it must be doing relatively well. But somehow, I doubt it. *edit* Apparently it sells for around $25,000, and has a top speed of 40 km/hr.
  25. Just because you say they're perfect for the city, doesn't mean it's true. I feel for the government official, who waives safety restrictions for those cars to be sold, and then gets held responsible for an epidemic of auto deaths. BTW, in Ontario we don't pay the actual cost of electricity. If we did pay the real cost (which is much higher), it would add some reality to the conversation.
