He had to buy the pipeline because he screwed up the situation do badly.  Regardless, that doesn’t make up for his legislative and policy attack on the energy industry.

He bought the pipeline to make sure it happens because the private sector bailed. You guys wanted him to let it die so you could blame him but he tricked you. Now you have to pretend it didn't happen
