It’s not the senates job to call witnesses.  Under the constitution the house conducts impeachment proceedings, calls witnesses, reviews documents, etc.  They provide that evidence to the senate for a vote.  If John Bolton wanted to testify he could have made himself available when the house called over 17 witnesses.  He didn’t.  Regardless, it’s rich to hear the Democrats complain when they didn’t allow any republican witnesses during the house trial.  But now they want republicans to allow for their witnesses in the senate.   

The Senate can certainly call witnesses, but Republicans will also have to answer for using executive privilege to prevent witnesses in the House. This is shaping up to be the best case scenario for the Dems.

There were 18 witnesses in the house.  You don’t know what you’re talking about.  Regardless, try reading the constitution.  It’s not the job of the senate to do the job of the house.  Now Democrats can run on their record of doing nothing over the last few years to improve the lives of Americans.
