The love of Football in America and in Canada are not comparable. Sorry. You can get 100,000+ people out to watch a University team play in the US. The Argos can't even fill a 50,000 seats stadium most of the time. The Alhouettes play in the a stadium the size of a hockey arena. Ivor Wind stadium is shittier than some American High School bleachers. Out west it's a bit better, probably because it's the only pro sports most of these places have outside hockey season. But still in now way compares to the way Americans love football.

The Grey Cup is on CTV I do believe. (owns TSN) BTW if you can't afford basic cable, I doubt advertisers to CFL games want you watching anyway. Just sayin' I'm not comparing Grey Cup vs Super Bowl in Canada. I'm comparing NFL in America to CFL in Canada.

That's a very wishy washy answer. I don't particularly want to see naked men, I'll avoid it if I can. That's not because I hate Gays, it's because I'm hetrosexual and would much prefer looking at naked women. Am I homophobic for stating this opinion?
-
Quite frankly, the education debate is irrelevant to most voters. If you expect the average voter to vote for Daddy Dalton again because they think Hudak will "create a crisis" in the teaching community you're delusional. Hudak comes from a family of teachers, so I doubt he'll be as punitive as Harris was to teachers. But teachers have gotten everything they wanted in the past 8 years, they may need to give a lil back.

Because strictly religious people also believe sex before marriage is wrong. You can respectfully agree on certain things without have to be slanderous. Religious people may disagree with a lifestyle. The one's that actively deny people the right to commit moral sins are on the wrong side of the debate. But I don't see anything wrong with being unwilling to affirm a certain lifestyle. But that's for a different thread. What about not being comfortable with some of the overt sexuality that happens at the Pride Parade? Is that also homophobic? If someone walked around a school buck naked, they'd be charged as a pedophile. Do it at a parade it's fine, in fact if you don't support those actions, you're somehow a homophobe.
-
No! because people who cannot affirm homosexual on religious grounds are labeled homophobic as well. That former Sportsnet Commentator Damien Goddard probably was called a homophobe many times for opposing Gay marriage. It's a term used to silence opposition.

So Israel doesn't have the "right to exist" then? I think you're just pissed that Israel has the full backing of the US and that's why they can be this Island of freedom and civil rights in the hostile place of bigotry and hatred. And I'm not sure why.

The CFL isn't an institution in Canada like the NFL is in the US. Actually like all levels of Football are in the US. It would be missed by some, but not most. Loss of an NFL season would be treated much like in 2006/7 when we lost the NHL season.

It may have initially been used as a pejoritive towards Gays but not as much anymore. It's just part of casual language. When someone says "That's effing Gay" they usually aren't saying they hate Gay people. I'm not supporting the use of the term as a negative term. I'm just saying, when people use the term homophobe they'd doing the exact same thing. When someone calls Rob Ford a "philthy homophob" for not wanting to attend the Pride Parade, quite frankly that's slander. It makes it sound like he's afraid of Gays like people are afraid of snakes or heights. But you'll tell me that the term has evolved to mean something totally different. I'm telling you, why can't the same treatment be used for "Gay".
-
What if the intent isn't "homophobic"? Originally Gay meant happy. Word's evolve. Considering Homophobic doesn't mean phobic at all.
-
So you should have no problem with the term "Gay" being used as a pejorative. Since of course many people using it as a pejorative aren't being "homophobic" It's just the way language evolves afterall.
-
Sort of like expanding the definition of Apartheid to include the situation in Israel when all other definitions of Apartheid include racial segregation. Or calling someone who disagrees with certain parts of the Gay agenda a homophobe when they aren't viscerally afraid of homosexuals like the term phobia would indicate? The left constantly co-opts words to suit themselves. Yet you seem indignant when others do the same? BTW I don't think many people who don't support Israel are anti-semitic. I just think they're hopelessly hypocritical in their condemnation of anything connected with US policies.
-
If they did that then they'd just drag their feet on a lot of the stuff they do. I think that's the appeal of these new companies that charge flat rates and use onDemand services.
-
Yeah because that region is full of people that want to be Israel's friend. :facepalm.

There are other factors at play too. In my early teens my parents came back from South Florida with a Dan Marino jersey and ever since I've been in love with the Miami Dolphins. My favourite team in all of sports. I was their games religiously and my mood is dictated by their performance. I'm a true fan. I could never get worked up about the Argos. Even when I was invited to the 2004 Grey Cup I was rather ambivalent. The only thing I can compare it to is watching the Leafs in the playoffs. You can also add Fantasy football helping my broad interest in the NFL. I can be engaged in watching teams I may, otherwise, not care about because I have a player starting in the game.

Many of the previous pages of this thread was a pointless debate about the speed of football players. I think the consensus was that speed was more important in CFL because of the larger field. Strength and size is more important in the NFL because of the smaller field.
-
There can be hitting in Euro Hockey. There is just less of it because the rink is so big and it favours faster players.
-
It's all personal preferences. I've always watched the NFL, so it's what I like. This year I'm going to try and give the CFL a shot but I think the US version is more interesting. The smaller field and the bigger players make the NFL a much more violent sport. I'd argue it also makes strategy far more important.

Also do you really think the hardships those in Hamas and the West Bank endure are solely the fault of Israel and not the militant policies of their leaders?
-
Well if your comparing American/Canadian Football to Ruby we've reached an impasse. The forward pass makes the goal post an obstacle, I don't like that. Now I'll agree you can't move the goal posts to the back of the endzone in Canadian Football because the enzone is 20 yards deep. Which, might I ad, is more annoying to me than the goal posts. In Canadian Football you can chuck a ball 30 or 40 yards downfield from inside the redzone and still score a TD. I find these are just rules that make offense easier. Do you like wide open European Ice Hockey (the CFL) or do you like NHL Hockey with lots of hits in a smaller rink (NFL)

Hamas is the opposition to Israel in Palestine, right now it's either one or the other. Undermining Israel emboldens Hamas. Here's an interesting article by Christopher Hitchens. Boat People Some questions for the "activists" aboard the Gaza flotilla. Whether you agree or not, fervently opposing Israel like people on the left do indirectly or directly supports Hamas and the Muslim Brotherhood. You know, the enemy of your enemy is your friend.

I know. There's no guarantee the house you're buying is totally sound. In fact many new houses are built totally on the cheap so there isn't even a guarantee you're not moving into a lemon if you buy new. I was just responding the Wild Bill's claim that a Real Estate Agent will legally tell you if the house you're moving in has problems.

Rugby is a great sport. Aussie Rules football is weird and scary though.
-
Yes but in opposing Israel in this manor you sort of affirm the likes of Hamas which would prefer Israel not to exist. The whole Israel debate becomes mute when you consider the alternatives to Israel. How can you expect Israel to allow Hamas free reign when you know the people funding them?
-
You know what? I can't get worked up about this issue anymore. It doesn't effect me, and if I didn't end up working in TO for some 9-5 gig, I'd probably use GO. But I think this issue of tolls will just end up being some pointy headed civics debate because there is no way Rob Ford would allow it. And unless Daddy Dalton gets a resounding mandate in October there is no way a provincial government would see fit to add another burden on taxpayers from a provincial level.
