Sure but I do think a toll road is punitive to other people. People who drive for a living, couriers, truck drivers. I also think a road toll unless it was only used during rush hours would hurt Toronto because people would avoid the city unless they had to go there. GO is expensive. It's cost effective for me to use GO if I was going downtown alone. BUT if I'm bringing my wife or a friend downtown the car becomes the far better method of commuting.

That's assuming you live and work in Toronto. I costed it out for my 30 minute commute if I wanted to take public transit. I'd have to use both local transits and the GO Train. unless of course I wanted to also walk up to an hour each day as well. I'd also ad more than an hour to my day commuting. So no gym and the end the day, no eating dinner with my wife. I'd be getting home at 9pm every night since I'd leave work at 7pm. And on the weekend I wouldn't have the freedom to see my parents, friends, to go to Niagara Falls if I want to. Stuff like that. BTW I believe it's totally reasonable to expect someone going to Downtown Toronto to use public transit. But this region is far more than Toronto.

Here's a perfect example of poor planning and idiocy from our government. In many parts of the GTA's busiest HOV (High Occupancy Vehicle) lanes were built by the province. Carpool lanes. If you're driving to work from one town to another what are the odds that you can find someone that works in the same town as you, works in the same area of you and works the same hours as you? Sure there are carpooling website but I'd imagine the aggravation of finding someone to carpool with isn't worth the effort. So during rush hour these HOV lanes are freakin' empty! If Tim Hudak said he'd free HOV lanes up for everyone. He'd get every single riding in Halton, Peel and York. He'll probably get all of them anyway though :-/

Do public servants even compete with other countries? I thought they provided services to the population that paid their taxes. The problem with employment equity is a real one, but that's not what's going on here. Greece gave their public servants way more than it could afford and now that they need a bailout to stave off ruin their soiled brat populace is rioting. This is a great warning for the rest of the Western world. You can also another warning from the opposite end of the spectrum coming from the US.

Yeah democracy is so dumb!! Betcha weren't saying that when David Miller and Daddy Dalton got elected.
-
I ain't complaining with the status quo. Even if Gas goes up to $1.50/litre it's still cheaper than taking public transit. But now gumints may want to charge people who are just trying to make a living more because they can't keep their books straight. I have problems with that. BTW I was just highlighting the problems with the argument of "Live where you work" Even if that's your goal, and I admit living where you work owns. Sometimes live doesn't work that way.
-
Well considering who's getting elected this day and age, that leaves you on the outside looking in.
-
Above and beyond the multitude of taxes they pay for the "privilege" of owning a car. While people who take the TTC have their fares subsidised. It's absolutely fair!
-
Yeah because that's so practical.
-
Yeah it's irrelevant to me, I try to go into Toronto as few times as possible. But I still can have an opinion. People are going to have to drive downtown regardless of a tax. Not everyone can simply use the GO-Train. Also what about the people that may live in Toronto and work in say Mississauga? Mississauga isn't just some bedroom burb there are many head offices there too. I actually think the traffic in places like Mississauga and Oakville are actually worse than they can be in Toronto.
-
Do you also have a car to drive you to the station and do all the other things I'm sure you'd like to do living there? Ironic is someone in the Shwa doesn't have a car actually considering the #1 industry there. ;->

Then what does income taxes, the heath tax and the HST pay for?
-
Man South of Bloor progressives are so out of touch with the rest of the country. Let alone the rest of the city. I don't even work in Toronto. I live and work in two different towns outside Toronto and my commute is about 30 minutes. Sometimes I actually get sent to work in the town I live in and only have to drive 3 clicks. But let's say I get laid off and can only find good work in say, Brampton. During rush hour that might take me an hour to get there. Should I sell my modest townhome and move to Brampton. Oh wait I can't cuz my wife works in completely the other direction on the 401. It's not as simple as people who choose to work shitteh Toronto think it is.
-
Isn't the Gas Tax supposed to do that?
-
Such an irrelevant argument. I bet you don't own your own home. You buy a house cuz it's in between where you and your wife work. One of you get laid off and can only find a job another 15-20 minutes away. You have to commute or should you just sell your house everytime you change working places.

What's homophobic about the Sun exactly?
-
Perhaps if your office is close to Unions Station and you work a 9-5 job. A monthly pass for GO can go for over $200 in parts of the 905 and you still need to get to the station in your own town. So either you have to pay for 3 separate transit services or pay for a car as well as the GO Train.
-
What do you think a congestion charge is trying to accomplish? If you live in the 905 and have a career in the 416 you have one of two options, Take the Gardiner or the DVP OR take the GO Train.

Most post-secondary education in Canada is subsidized by the government. So what? In Mississauga, Ontario there is a high-school devoted to exclusively to children that excel at the arts. This women is hitting the gumint up for trips to other places to do her irrelevant form of art. If there is a demand for art you shouldn't need government subsidies.
-
The idea of road tolls on already existing highways in Toronto is completely absurd. If everyone stopped driving today, the current system of public transit couldn't even come close to accommodating the additional demand. BTW the GO Train is very expensive and very inefficient.
-
I know this is the Toronto Sun, so it's biased. But it addresses the issue. My link Keep in mind the right-wing city council columnist that works for the Sun is a lesbian. It's not a "homophobic" publication.

LOL quoting Wiki on a messageboard. In his 8 year term was Ontario brought to it's knees? Were people dying in the streets? Was unemployment high? Were we hopelessly in debt?
-
First of all QuAIA is most certainly anti-semitic, they are also hypocritical, considering Israel is the only nation in the region where homosexuals can actually receive civil rights. Here's a story about the funding being suspended because of them. My link Last year they promised not to allow the group attend. They were given the money and then they were allowed to attend anyway. And regarding Ford's weight. You can say it's a choice to be that fat, fine. But it's also a choice to walk around downtown naked shooting people with a squirt gun and, quite frankly, acting like a flaming homosexual. Sure not everyone that goes to Pride are like that, but that element is certainly evident. Is it being a bigot saying that, perhaps that's not something you may want to partake in?

There's a difference between what this lady does and downtown musicals like say Lion King, Billy Elliot, Phantom, Mamma Mia, etc. Those productions actually make money, people go see them because they are professional and well done. I doubt the productions this lady puts together actually make a red cent. BTW this shet is why the Conservatives didn't win a majority in 2008, Quebecers feel entitled to have their arts paid for by the taxpayer.

Well several public union contracts are up for renewal after the election. We'll probably see a re-hash of what happened when Harris tried to cut spending. I think there's an appetite for Harris-style austerity. No one has ever told me, other than perhaps Walkerton (and there's a debate if it was really his fault) what the Harris government did that was so horrible.
