You guys are all getting too worried about the use of the term ghetto. The main problem with "ghettos" is not that an inferior race of people lives there, it's that people who live in ghettos are able to function primarily in their 1st language almost all of the time. That means that learning the language and culture of the rest of the country comes a lot more slowly to them than it would to people who tear off the band-aid more quickly by going out and living in a mixed environment. That creates obvious problems for them when they go seeking employment with their 100 word vocabularies. They can get stuck working in low paying jobs with other members of their culture where they still don't learn, and their children grow up in poverty which comes with it's own set of challenges. Another problem is that networking is a big deal. If you socialize with people who have good jobs, sooner or later your friends come up with opportunities for you. If your highest paid friend is working below the poverty line what chance is there that anyone in your social circle will be able to get you your big break? No, quebec isn't a ghetto, but if someone absolutely refuses to ever learn english then obviously they are just limiting their own career potential. Likewise if an english speaking person chooses to learn certain foreign languages it can open opportunities for them as well. Living in a bubble is rarely the best choice, but at the same time it's ridiculous that someone would have to learn Mandarin to be included in their Annual General Meetings. Common sense might be a good idea.

Like I mentioned in my last post, a party to a contract that doesn't have the capacity to understand it can't be bound by it. In Canada that means that it needs to be formed in either english or french unless all the parties to it agree to form it in another language. Any meeting that leads to the formation of a contract in an unofficial language won't hold up against english or french speakers in court. That's pretty basic imo. The strata needs to hold sessions which are closed to all non-members if they want to speak in Mandarin. I wish I had a vote at those meetings, they'd be epic.
-
You're wrong on all counts overthere. Strata Councils make decisions with the effect of enforceable legal contracts and as such they need to be conducted in an official language when participation from non council members is permitted, because contracts which cannot be understood are unenforceable. If a strata meeting is conducted as a closed-door session then it doesn't matter what language it is conducted in because noone else is affected.

The rules of political correctness only allow us to look down on groups that are comprised of 90% or more white males between the ages of 18 and 70. Don't you watch Oprah?
-
The hadith is probably the thing you are talking about. It's Islam 101 for how to behave and it's based on the life of Mohammed.
-
The decisions of strata councils have legal implications, and matters of law are conducted in our official languages. BC does not lack an official language lol. The BC Supreme Court is not going to conduct any hearings in Mandarin, and it's no small thing to allow any new languages to be considered official. We would need to have mandarin and punjabi writing on all our food labels, etc if we were to make those languages official and it's detrimental to the country as a whole to hamper the effective communication among canadians.

Religion is not founded on facts, research or experience. Religious persons have attitudes towards others who are not like them. Once a religist, always a religist. Facts or logic cannot change that attitude. Their research is based on looking for examples which reinforce their belief and any other research is discounted by them as "unfounded". Religists don't know that there is anything wrong with their thinking and will spend hours trying to rationalize it to others - and themselves. I say - let them be. They need someone to blame for their problems in life (religists are often successful in life, prayer is an effective goal-setting mechanism and hatred is a good motivator). Extreme religists believe that killing non-believers is noble and will gain them eternal riches and rewards. At least they keep themselves busy looking for some minority to blame and are too busy to bother most of us. Fortunately, there are none on this board.

In Canada we have "official languages" for conducting "official business" and it shouldn't take long to get an injunction preventing the strata council from conducting official business in Mandarin. This is a dangerous precedent that they are setting and I don't really care about the feelings of the strata council, they know this is an english speaking country.

http://www.tesfanews.net/eritrea-the-little-told-story-of-religious-co-existence/ ok, I will kind of shut up, but not really. There is a glimmer of hope. That was your eritrea link.

I just clicked the top link, same thing, but there is no name associated with it. Just "Staff Writer". It's worth noting that there is plenty of mention of hostility between Jews and Christians in those articles. My love of religion never seems to grow.
-
I just clicked one link, Christians and Muslims for Centuries, and it was just some guy named Fuad Nahdi who said that. That doesn't form the basis of a historical account imo.

did he ever marry anyone who would still be in elementary school?

It's all in the numbers dialamah, that's the thing. You don't call it a pattern when one group does something and 99.999% of the rest of the group is denouncing them. A cat in East Rutherford New Jersey made friends with a crow, therefor all cats are friends with crows. True or false? A cat in Boston Massachusetts ate a mouse. On that same day, tens of thousands of cats from all over the world ate mice, just like every other day for the last 1,500 years. 90% of the cats on earth actually didn't eat a mouse that day though, so it's safe to say that if you buy a cat it's not very likely to ever attack a mouse. True or false?

You're re-writing history if you want to say that the main strategy of spreading Islam has been to send out their followers in suits and dresses to be politely annoying like Jehovahs, born agains, etc. I have had wobbly pops in several countries that are dominated by christians and have yet to have Christian Police get up in my grill telling me to change my ways. Honestly dude you don't seem to make a single point with any merit, and you are making some ridiculous claims.
-
Is it safe to say then dialamah that it's always wrong to demonize a group? That's what you are telling us, isn't it? Because I can actually think of groups with less blood on their hands who are actually condemned by popular opinion in North America. I ask you this: If a group has a leader that's completely angelic to his own members but kills astonishing numbers of people for no other reason than their lack of willingness to accept his beliefs and live every moment of their lives according to his orders would we consider that person bad by western standards? What about his followers? I dare you to answer that question truthfully dialamah.
-
Dialamah you are ignoring every page of known and accepted historical fact at the same time as you are painting yourself as a bleeding heart humanitarian and everyone else as racists. Instead of just telling us how you feel why don't you go out and find an example of one area where a large population of muslims were wonderful & tolerant towards other cultures and shut everyone up for good? That's all it takes. Your one Utopia vs the other 1,500 years and 50 countries which were the exact opposite of utopian. We are talking about a massive amount of history, covering a large portion of the earth over an extremely long time with results that have remained rock-steady and you are talking about what you personally feel in your heart. Why are you so unwilling to step up with some facts about what we are actually talking about? We don't think that your opinion trumps historical data. I acknowledge that there are a lot of people out there who are members of that faith who want to believe that their religion is a religion of peace. There are also a lot of people who believe that smoking isn't bad for them or their children, or that they can take ecstasy with no worries at all, that they are ok to drive after ten light beers, or they are sure that they know a guy who's a member of the Hell's Angels but he's really a nice guy. A lot of people in Germany thought that their government was doing things that were logical and acceptable under the circumstances. I'm happy to hear your point of view expressed with history, not your predictions of the future. I judge people by their actions and I tend to put less faith in other people's opinions of how likely they are to change in the future.

Transparancy is for White people only
WestCanMan replied to Argus's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
You're making up your own reasons for the things that the gov't is doing. It's actually quite ridiculous to suspect that the whole conservative or liberal gov't agree on how prioritize every issue in the country, how to handle them, how much money is available to be spent on them. In general, the types of issues that are ongoing in many FN areas are the types of things that warrant high-level attention. Deaths, poverty, drug addiction, etc. They are the kinds of things that can't be ignored. The conservatives came up with a cost-effective way to ensure that there is a trickle-down effect with whatever resources are directed into areas of need. This was an extremely cost-effective solution compared to what we would usually see in Canada... Make a gov't agency, do a massive study, fund a bajillion dollars into it, sell your great new ideas to FN's and taxpayers alike, watch the money twirl away into nothingness, rinse, repeat. People need to find fault with it in order to be happy. -
OK, so the first sentence of your answer was not an ad hominem argument, just the last two paragraphs were (the part about me just being some paranoid ignoramus). For it not to be an ad hominem argument you'd have to tackle the tough question about whether there are any areas where large muslim populations don't equate to large problems - not what you just perceive to be my own personality quirks. Right on cue, you had no bullets for the main thrust of my argument so you went after me. I repeat "every nation on earth with a large population of muslims starts running into the exact same problem". You can blame my ignorance for all the problems in 50 different countries if you want, and stand by your claim that Canada has magic water that will eradicate any potential problems before they surface. Whatever.
-
So you didn't go with an ad hominem argument but you came back with something blatantly stupid, nice curve there eyeball. If you lived in an area where Muslims were powerful enough to make the rules you would fear them a lot more than lightning, but if you can find a place on earth where that isn't the case please enlighten me. I will be shocked to see you post anything more substantial than your own opinion.

Trudeau rolls up his sleeves. Other world leaders should do more of that.
-
Trudeau's warm GQ smile will CRUSH any inspirations they might have of following the Koran, or the example set by the predecessors.
-
What happened to your open mind? Those who choose to remain ignorant to history are condemned to repeat it.

Then consider for a few minutes the idea that 2,000 years of Muslim history is somehow relevant. Or the fact that "Mpderate Muslims" in Canada are already trying to get some forms of Sharia implemented. Or the fact that we are supposed to be bringing 35,000 muslims into Canada from THE area where Islamic State is strongest? Or the laws that are still in effect in modern-day countries that are so full of moderate muslims. Islamophobia isn't based on bigotry or whatever you want to call it, it's based on distant history, recent history and everything in between. It's based on the fact that Islam is only ever spread by the sword - these guys don't just wear suits and pester you on Sunday morning. It's based on absolutely everything that we know from seeing how large groups of muslims operate. Go ahead and find us some nice stories about how countries with large groups of Muslims welcome people with different beliefs. Not just temporarily, as workers who are building their oilfields and bringing in technology, but as equal citizens. I dare you to go to Saudi Arabia, or any other Muslim country of your choice, and walk around for a day dressed like a Roman Catholic nun, or dress in the clothes that you wore to work on Friday. Come back and share with us your wonderful stories of welcome and inclusion by Muslims.
