http://www.cbc.ca/news/world/story/2011/06/14/obama-debt-ceiling.html I always get sick to my stomach when reading about this... The baby boomers are leaving quite the debt in this ponzi scheme of a society. The sad part is that the baby boomers will likely keep this up for the rest of their lives so that the younger generation can pay it back later. Being 27, much of my life will be spent supporting the artificially high standard of living that most my age will never experience on their own.

Top civil servants lose perks

Only 15,000? -
Actually, that isn't how it works. In Canada you don't own anything you find. If the bank accidentally gives you $5000 and you spend it, you owe them. If you find a car that is left running and take it, that's theft. If you find $50 on the ground and take it, that's illegal. All found items should be attempted to be returned to the rightful owner. The girl is legally obligated to attempt to return the ball to the rightful owner, the league.

Stormy Skies for Canada's Middle Class

CPCFTW just wants working class Canadians to live in mud huts and straw shacks so the top 1% are able to buy another solid gold fountain for their mansion foyer. The free market capitalists' dream indeed. -
Stormy Skies for Canada's Middle Class

The CEO BONUS is tied to performance. Not their salary. Sure, all employees should have a bonus tied to performance! Afterall, the performance of the company comes from the collective effort of the company's workforce. -

The sad part is... We pretty much knew this before... And we still elected them. -
OK. So when an employer calls an employee to say that the day is going slow and they don't have to come in, that is vacation. I just want to be clear on the matter. This means that retail has some of the best vacation time. Just schedule any day off you want and it counts as vacation. You can't beat that! Also, regarding 30 minutes of uninterupted lunch: http://www.e-laws.gov.on.ca/html/statutes/english/elaws_statutes_00e41_e.htm#BK31 20. (1) An employer shall give an employee an eating period of at least 30 minutes at intervals that will result in the employee working no more than five consecutive hours without an eating period. 2000, c. 41, s. 20 (1).

It's not really vacation time. A true vacation is being able to arbitrarily book time off of regular work and receive pay for the time missed. Teachers are paid based on class days, unions have fought for that pay to be spread out over the year instead of having teachers worry about budgeting. Which backfires because now it appears as though they are paid for not working (vacation) and lesser minds have a hard time actually understanding how it actually works. So teacher's get time off from work stoppage (no kids in school) but, they aren't really paid for vacation. They are not allowed to take vacation from work days. It makes more sense to attack the salary to days worked. My mother gets 6 weeks off a year as a bank teller. So lets use 6 weeks above and beyond what people would get. $43,000 x 52/46 = $48,000 starting equivalent as a higher end teacher. $75,000 x 52/46 = $84,000 median teacher salary adjusted for getting an additional 6 weeks of work stoppage. $94,000 x 52/46 = $106,000 maximum teacher salary after upgrade courses and 13 years of experience in Ontario as of Sept 1st, 2011 Median pay equivalent of $84,000? That's really good. And I think it would have to drop significantly before high quality teachers are turned away from the profession.

Mostly positive, that's a good thing. -
Teachers expect a wage freeze, at best. The ones I know, know what is coming based on the polls. 4-8 years of Conservative reign, trying to destroy education for the middle class and poor who can't afford private school. Our education system is #2 in the OECD. Only other system that received a grade of A. The conservatives keep trying to bring American style policies here... Newsflash, the US systems ranks much worse. Only the Conservatives would use such inferior systems as the standard to follow.

I have no problem with tax money being used for the Prime Minister to maintain a public presence in a Canadian tradition. In fact, I think it is important. -
Wait. You are mad about a union paying for teachers to leave the classroom and ad campaigns funded by the union? Conservatives will slash and burn public education by cutting resources and reducing the quality of our education system... and you are attacking the union for campaigning against it... Any party that ever put a high school drop out as Minister of Education, a minister who is dumb enough to speak into a microphone that he thinks is turned off that "we need to create a crisis in public education", is insane and can't be trusted with public education What about the billions of dollars spent on lobbying in NA to get government to bow to corporate demands? Maybe you should direct your anger against real evil in the world instead of unions trying to protect the quality of education.

Some time has passed and we have been able to consider and reflect on what the Prime Minister said. How did you feel about it?
