It really makes me wonder about the phone scandals that occurred during the election. Of course, they'd never admit to those. But why so open about this one? And it really hits why I don't like the current brand of Conservatives. The downright ugly, undemocratic and uncalled for tactics the party resorts to.

Should 16 years old be allowed to vote?
MiddleClassCentrist replied to Topaz's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
And capped at 50. As people get older and lose their marbles they vote conservative. We must be equitable in our ridiculous banter. Teen agers actually predict the outcome of elections. They mostly follow their parents view of what they've been indoctrinated to believe. -
Anti-Bully Legislation
MiddleClassCentrist replied to Boges's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
The bullying mentality is often the result of bad parenting. Parents put other people down to make themselves good. Their child learns to do the same. Parents should be punished for their children's actions more often. -

I don't think you understand the concept of risk. -
Why Harper is so vulnerable
MiddleClassCentrist replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Yep. By proxy, we technically do. We can vote locally based on a combination of MP Candidate, Party and Leadership. If we didn't like the potential PM, we could protest by not voting or voting for another party with a leader we feel is more capable. -

The balance has been broken and that is the problem. Our government keeps getting bigger and bigger. We need to add funding, then cut back. It's a cycle that helps see that the funding we provide is necessary funding and not government bloat. I suppose to be fair, we are seeing some cuts at the federal level but, we are also seeing large expenditures and liabilities that should only be added in a time of surplus. I don't really call costly criminal law and overpriced jets an investment in canadian infrastructure to promote economic activity. If that money were invested to create innovation, enhance infrastructure to make Canada more competitive or even invest at the grass roots business level(not large scale corporate level), we'd see a much larger pay out economically. -

Conservatives have the most [loyal/closed minded] (insert for bias you want) group of supporters. Now, the question is would you ever consider supporting another party? I know I don't like the current brand of conservatives and because of that, conservatives on this board label me crazy left wing nut but, a good fiscal conservative eader with status quo/non-regressive in social policies could grab me. So I'd never rule Conservatives out in the future. -
That isn't even true. Animals demonstrate acts of ownership, forcing other animals away from their territory/food source. It's a natural phenomenon to protect one's interest in natural evolution. Except it was based on whoever was biggest/fastest/etc could lay claim, not whoever has the most money or purchased rights. Those who speak out against ownership, are really just saying that everyone should be able to take any one elses possessions without reprimand. Has society transformed the idea of ownership? Of course. Some of it is good, some of it is bad. I like that I can own my home and legally keep out drifters, for instance.

Why Harper is so vulnerable

It's not as simple as that though. It might erode a little bit of support but, I wouldn't wager on swathes of people switching. I remember reading the story about an NDP candidate campaigning in Alberta. She went to talk to people on social assistance. The people were voting conservative because they believed in lower taxes. The candidate tried to inform the people that they actually don't pay any taxes when all is said and done, they ignored her. "I've voted conservative my entire life and I will continue to do so." When the people who would benefit most from a progressive government refuse to vote in their interest... how could a progressive party make any headground? They aren't going make huge gains targetting wealthy business people who would rather keep their personal earnings higher than invest taxes in social programs. -

That is the irony of the separatist movement. If they separate, they will destroy their culture because they would need to cater to anglophones to survive, instead of the way we cater to them now. -

I honestly think that the CPC will be in power for some time. The CPC will need to have support erode in the west. The chance of that happening any time soon? Anyone want to wager? -

It also highlights why everyone sending their son/daughter to University or College should ensure they are in a co-op program to get some experience. From the parenting standpoint at least.

0% interest credit cards are time limited, often come with fees, and are meant only to get you to switch institutions. My brother was into 0% interest credit card, you can't keep switching companies (he found that out). They often start from time of card application and not time of credit card being received. People who are consistently carrying debt, as the ones we are discussing, should not be doing so on a credit card. Most people would not be paying off a $15,000 credit card purchase in 6 months, after which the rates sky rocket.

The Birther movement was a prime example of purposefully being fed misinformation. Another example I remember was the UN atomic meeting where fox tried to make it look like the UN's symbol was made to look like an islamic flag... (The UN flag was modelled after an atomic model) Purposefully misleading their viewers.

It was hilarious. All sitting around painting their slogans that don't make sense. "Welcome to the land of opportunity" (bustling big city, small campground... yeah. about that.) "You can't own anything because it was never yours to possess" Wait, what? I still support their ability to protest, however.

Loans and lines of credits are for such things They also offer much lower interest rates. Using credit cards for holding a debt balance is in the realm of being financially retarded.

They were all artsy hipsters at OCCUPY T.O. At least when I was there to see it.
-
I didn't catch anyone who mentioned the purpose of credit cards to begin with... It is a payment tool. It is meant to be paid off before the interest kicks in. That is why interest rates are so high, to encourage you to pay the card off. If you pay your balance before the end of the month, you pay 0 dollars in interest. If you can't do that, the rate is meant to encourage you to move it to a longer term debt payment plan if you have overspent. They make more money in the 3 or 4% cut of each purchase than in the interest being held by others. If your card his loaded with debt, you aren't making purchases. If you need a debt tool, take out a loan or line of credit. Their interest rate is lower and meant for holding debt.

Canadian Wages Plummet
MiddleClassCentrist replied to cybercoma's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Exactly, we can't buy anything if we don't have money. That is what leads to a depression scenario. If we have money, we can make purchases, in turn creating more jobs. The wealthy don't create jobs, the market does. When people have money to spend in the market, jobs are created. Corporatists want working people to fight each other rather than focus on the real issues. -
I'd like to see all of the Jesus figures walking through the store. I think it'd be funny.

Yes. There is a clear difference. I just meant in the 'feel good' aspect of it.
