I think I understand. - Freedom to own weapons designed for the purpose of killing. OK. - Peaceful protests. NOT OK. So let's equip them with guns and make their freedoms valid! Finally a solution!
-
We should be free to use public space for protests. Whether for a few hours, or days. Why do conservative minded individuals hate freedom?
-
No. Because there are many negative effects to changing the time of day but not adjusting the schedule. (hour changes but, not work start time etc) Humans are animals that did not evolve with clocks. Our natural rhythm needs time to adjust to waking up an hour later or an hour earlier. It is an unnecessary stress on our body with an almost insignificant benefit.

That's what happens when talking to the the ideologues who have no interest in actually discussing points but, pushing their ideology at all costs. -------------------------------------------- I'm for letting the people protest. What harm are they causing? Really? Bringing attention to the issue of corporate welfare and the imbalance of wealth that western capitalism creates? If you feel that everything is great, then why care about a few protester's? Every thing is great and they'll be of no consquence. That being said, I do take issue with a lot of the people part of OCCUPY who never took the time to make themselves marketable. The people with "hobby academic" degrees instead of career potential degrees. The world does not owe you a job for pursuing a degree in philosophy. But, let them protest. I've even considered sending some assistance of sorts (Food, sleeping bags) and why not? In my opinion, Canadians need to protest things we feel are injust more often than we currently do.

Spending our children's money...
MiddleClassCentrist replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Exactly. Adding huge funding additions like jets and an omnibus crime bill is the responsible thing to do. Wait... what? If he was serious about making cuts, all of his programs would wait until he had a surplus in the budget to fund his agenda of already tested, and failed, hard on crime policies. Want to Buy: Fiscal Conservative please. -
Why don't we just shift to permanent DST? Wouldn't that be a solution?

I hate daylight savings. It's not healthy and entirely unnecessary.

Majority backs public funding for CBC, poll finds
MiddleClassCentrist replied to Shwa's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
The problem being that any poll done by Sun is intended to be biased on their part and it will only be reported if/when they get results in favour of their agenda. I got a call from a poll done by Sun once... They couldn't pronounce McGuinty... they said "McGuilty" -
Majority backs public funding for CBC, poll finds
MiddleClassCentrist replied to Shwa's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
The CBC is mostly positive. Their reporting is mostly balanced and rational. Not perfect but, nothing is. Now... if any money is going to Sun Media, that needs to be stopped. Biased news all the time? Not on my dime! -
Horvath looks to remove HST from Hydro/Heating
MiddleClassCentrist replied to Boges's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
The article says heating only. If the NDP and CONS want it, they can pass it. Politically a win-win for the opposition. - They cut off revenue forcing the Liberals to make potentially unpopular cuts. - They gain positive view of lowering the bills of regular people. -
Sometimes, It's really not an argument. It is more just talking at someone who isn't listening. There is a clear difference.

Could discuss the CBC link I suppose.

I'm an Atheist. My wife is Christian. I was raised Christian. I'll still allow my children to be baptised. Jesus did exist. There is historical Jesus (What we actually know)... and then there is biblical Jesus (What people wrote about after the fact)... and then there is super hero Jesus for the evangelicals (OMG SAVIOUR! Casts out evil and loves everyone except gays, muslims, etc). The religion has people other than Jesus that we are supposed to listen to... people who spread the word after his death. Christians probably understand their religion the least because they aren't thinking about it critically. Saying "you don't know becuase you aren't Christian" is silly. How many times has a Christian actually QUESTIONED their religion critically enough to actually think about it logically? My father told a prayer group that he did and they were shocked and appalled. He simply said "How can I believe if I haven't questioned it?"

Wealthy people don't create jobs. Market demand creates jobs.

B.C court to hear Assisted Suicide case Nov. 14
MiddleClassCentrist replied to olp1fan's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I am personally for it. People should be able to leave this world on their terms. If I was 75 and losing my mind and couldn't remember anyone or couldn't remember where I am, what life is that? If I would be forced to live in a wheel chair my entire life and eat through a straw, I wouldn't want that. If I was battling terminal cancer past the point of being assisted... etc. -
My wife is staying home with kids right now, she'd fall into that 20 or less category. When I was in highschool working a part time job, I'd have fallen into that category as well. Add in an aging population on basic pension working part time to supplement, people with small pensions. I was a bit shocked by the 40% at first too. I also found that my career salary was placed higher than I expected. In a few years I'll be very close (if not in) the top 5%. My point of view, is that wealthy is when you can afford something beyond the majority's dreams. Six figure salaries are at the lower end of that spectrum, entry level million dollar homes

You can pretend all you want. Doesn't make it real. I can pretend to be a millionaire who has an orgy with 5 women every night and is happily married to a woman who participates. Can't be verified. So I'll still know you for what you are and not the fantasy your attempt to convey, desk job

http://www.cbc.ca/news/interactives/canada-income/index.html <- in Canada Somewhere above 150k/year.

I was more thinking that it screamed "desk job" in a cubicle, most likely without a window ----- Here's an info graphic (don't know if it was already posted.) http://www.cbc.ca/news/interactives/canada-income/index.html I would have never thought that I'd end so close to the top 5% in Canada. Maybe I should change my name... UpperMiddleClassCentrist...

For someone who tries to play it as if he doesn't care what canadians think, and attempts to belittle Canada all the time... BC_2004 November 9th, 2011 Post Timeline (THIS THREAD ONLY) 1:26pm 2:12pm 2:38pm 2:55pm 2:57pm 3:14pm 5:12pm 7:04pm 9:06pm 10:13pm 10:32pm 10:38pm 10:40pm 10:48pm 11:01pm ALL DAY ON CANADIAN BOARDS. Even if BC had the day off, what type of American would spend their day off constantly checking Canadian forums... especially when they claim to not care about our opinions? What kind of easy job allows that kind of vacous effort? The first step is realizing that you have a problem. Seriously.

Climategate Vindication
MiddleClassCentrist replied to BubberMiley's topic in Health, Science and Technology
Why do you think the standard light bulb only lasts 1000 hours after a century? It's not out of the goodness of the capitalists hearts. Why make it better when you can make more money when it breaks? -
I would like to thank the right wingers on this board for showing some good examples of rationalization. It's interesting to see first hand, whether you realized it or not. Even if you try to disqualify that Jesus was closer to a socialist, it doesn't change the fact that he would not have approved of the modern Conservative party.
-
But by doing deeds for ones other, for the greater good of society is the entire point of socialism. We pay extra taxes to support others and perform good deeds that we ourselves would not be able to enact. Even if you don't agree with labelling him a socialist, as he did not personally subscribe to that label, the teachings of Christ that we discuss are very close to that of socialism. We also should admit that the teachings are nearly the opposite of modern conservative ideology. Removing a workers right to strike? Forcing people back to work? Increasing the time spent in prison even if the individual could be ready to reintegrate earlier? Cut social services to reduce taxes on the wealthy? Casting out homosexuals? These are all policies that conservative ideologues promote!
