To fix #2, I'm all for doing what Australia does = mandatory voting with fines if people don't show up. And if they don't pay the $50? fine, they go to jail.

The NDP and the new international trade agreement
angrypenguin replied to Argus's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Precisely, and as someone who is allergic to dairy, I'm STILL for this A country that protects certain industries is doing the equivalent of shooting one's own foot. This is a global economy. -
Exactly what I said when I first came on this board. The NDP/Liberal party cooperation would not last very long.

No the PC party's big mistake (provincially) was sticking it to the federal party's PC support. Also, their other mistake? They were too honest when it came to cutting public sector jobs. Hudak was a moron.

Migrants - What is their true value to Canada?
angrypenguin replied to Go.Leafs's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Well I'm an immigrant. (technically, even though I've been here since I was 1.) I'd like to think my folks and I offered something positive to Canada. Long/sob story cut short, my dad went from making $15,000 a year to being in the top 1%. (no, no handouts, just his career progression). I'm not that old yet, and I'm in the top 2% (salaried employee). We have paid our share of taxes, so I'd like to think that as an immigrant, my family has offered some value to Canadians.- 57 replies

The NDP and the new international trade agreement
angrypenguin replied to Argus's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
For sure, take a look at the video. It's only 1 minute 14 seconds and it provides quite a bit of info about TPP and free trade, but it also includes what you're looking for. I was a bit off though, the story that I originally read mentioned that Harper had already delivered compensation for the fishing industry. According to him, there is a blocker provincially, but they will definitely deliver. http://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/harper-newfoundland-1.3255630 -

Harper has already said he'll compensate the dairy farmers, just like he promised to and then delivered compensation to the Atlantic fisheries following a trade deal. -
Do they even know their names?

Strategic Voting - It needs to be done

I would prefer a dictatorship, with me in charge. -

There are downsides in everything, but the upsides far exceed the downsides. -
I really wish you would spend some time in a country which truly doesn't have a middle class. Your assessment is entirely incorrect. Go to some regions in Asia.

What would force each of the federal leaders to resign?
angrypenguin replied to ScottM's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I'll never agree with you. The service was great, and gave Flaherty the praise he deserved. -

Another way to put this, for those that are against TPP. -
The percentage of GDP the energy sector is worth is tiny relative to others.

Agreed. Irrespective of party affiliation, we have definitely been blessed. During a part of Flaherty's funeral, Harper talked directly to his sons. When one of his son's cried, that put me over the edge. EDIT: Here it is for anyone who wants to see it. There's a lot about Flaherty that many don't know, until they watch the video. He was a true dedicated public servant. It was a great service to the late Jim Flaherty. That was the best speech I have ever heard from the PM himself. And the best speech I have ever heard in my life. EDIT 2: Just watched it again, and started to cry EDIT 3: The late Jim Flaherty. A true legend. -
If your brother tried to take over a plane to crash it into the world trade center, will you disown him if he, say, survived?

And if that happens, I'm glad the Conservative warchest is nice and full. I do my part

Because people wouldn't vote for them. Duh. It affects EVERYONE who buys stuff. Repealing the TFSA or whatever apparently only affects the "rich". ROLLEYES.
