  1. Interesting fact about EKOS polling. http://www.ekospolitics.com/index.php/category/ontario/ “Kudos needs to go to EKOS Research, the only firm to call two of the three main parties within two percentage points. In terms of the eventual outcome, their poll was probably the most informative, though they had the NDP too low.” I can't seem to figure out what Nanos was polling, but until I read this, I always held Nanos polling to be of "higher" accuracy than EKOS. Guess I was wrong.
  2. How does any survey know if someone is lying? Make the results anonymous and have a large enough sample size.
  3. Well, let's pick Canada, a system as we all know = optional voting. The Lefties are usually not happy that the Righties show up more often to vote. If you forced a leftie to vote, the Lefties would be more happy at the election outcome. I mean, if you're one of those voters who couldn't care less about NDP/Liberal, but you were forced to show up, you'd vote. Versus the...yeah I guess I'm liberal but whatever, I don't care - mentality.
  4. What does one's occupation have anything to do with this discussion?
  5. I would argue the general public is the one hurt.
  6. Fair point. The ability though to vote to abstain on the ballot is a good compromise. At least people are forced to go to the ballot boxes.
  7. WHOA. Hot off the press!! 8 minutes ago. "TPP deal expected to be announced today" http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/national/us-australia-reportedly-reach-deal-on-pharma-protection-in-tpp/article26643347/
  8. This has already been described in the thread.
  9. That would be a con. But let's say I wasn't into politics, and you asked me to vote for someone. I argue that I would at least briefly figure out which party aligns to my values simply for patriotism reasons.
  10. Should governments avoid those who have made a choice they want to be a terrorist to blow up our nation?
  11. Oh. I thought you were referencing the latter portion of the part when you quoted me. Yes, there will be. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/politics/pacific-trade-deal-is-essential-harper-says/article25108622/
  12. Agreed. As much as I dislike Ontario's new decision to fund IVF, I suspect it's for that reason that you mentioned. Canada will find itself up [expletive]'s creek if it doesn't fix this issue. I wish Governments would bring more attention to this VERY important matter.
  13. I suggest you use Adblock Plus. No CBC ad for me As for what you're looking for. http://canadians.org/media/newfoundland-game-changer-europe-canada-free-trade-agreement-pulls-out-trade-negotiations Look at the $400 million part...
  14. Thanks for this. I'm not donating to the Tories anymore, they clearly don't need my money!
  15. Thanks for providing that. I'll take a look. and good on you for never missed voting! I am guilty. I have only voted federally since I was 18, and this time it burned me because I didn't vote in the Ontario provincial election. NEVER again will I miss my duty to vote!
  16. Yep! The only potential downside are those who really don't give a hoot, and they don't engage. Like Lynton Crosby said, the strategy for mandatory voting and optional voting is entirely different. I mean, I think most people would at least engage though in the debate and choose sides.
  17. Fair point, but if I were running the NDP campaign, and I know that I'm screwed, i'd start to really cut back my spend so that I could fund another election. Also, I thought that the parties were forced to report their coffer #'s? Perhaps not during an election, but do we have post 2011 numbers?
  18. Well, then I guess you could mess up the vote? When asked to rank, rank all as 1? I mean how would they know? The other option is to go to jail, and yes, there are Australians in jail due to their protest wrt voting. I learned all of this by the way, by watching the hour long video about Lynton Crosby. Lots to learn about voting there.
  19. LOVE IT!
  20. I'm not doubting you at all. I've read the same thing on the internet (Tories have more than the Grits+ NDP combined, as an example). But I cannot find any evidence of this online. (e.g. real evidence, not some newspaper article)
  21. Well the Australians have two major parties. The labour party and the Tories (afaik). There's 3 other parties for Aussies to vote (much smaller parties). Voters are asked to stack rank them, so it forces voter engagement. Or you could just put down #1, 2, 3 as ones that you know have no chance in hell in winning. My ethical issue is how some Canadians choose not to vote, and that is disrespectful to all the men and women who died to allow us to have a democratic society.
  22. I asked this last night but did not get an answer. Do we have proof the oppositions' piggy banks are dry? The NDP raised more money for this election than anyone else in the history of Canada. (exceeding the Conservatives # in the 2011 election)
