  1. Omni is right, and my "experience, knowledge and judgement" of you here on mlw is that you have made the leap from personal dislike to xenophobia toward all people of entire cultures/races/religions. I am curious how many people of different ethnicities you personally disliked before you made the leap to xenophobia against them all. ??
  2. It's not confusing at all, betsy: We defend freedom of choice.
  3. Initially there were some, opposing Assad. But when the US/CIA sent in their ISIS goons, the moderates fought them to try to save their country from the US/CIA.
  4. Seems to me that you've described extreme Christian fundamentalism pretty well.
  5. That is the reality in Canada. Kids know that racism is just stupidity with a burr up its butt.
  6. Poor scribblet. It must be difficult living in such a state of anxiety that you are constantly panicking about imaginary catastrophies. There is treatment for that disorder.
  7. Oh yes, because letting people starve is the 'moral' thing to do. At least ... according to the US economic sharks that destroy countries.
  8. Thanks for posting this hot enough. Excellent example of how the US 'economic hit men' invade and destroy a country's economy.
  9. Yes, inciting violence against an identifiable group is against the law ... as a hate crime.
  10. He's not threatening anybody in particular. He's threatening a whole religious group. It's a hate crime because people are targeted only because they belong to a particular group. That's why we have hate crimes against groups in the criminal code. The laws for threats against individuals don't fit this situation.
  11. What law would you suggest? He isn't personally threatening a particular individual. He's inciting hatred and advocating violence against any Muslim.
  12. Yes, for sure. These white supremacists would like to see the hate laws struck down. So he'll likely want to take it to the Supreme Court.
  13. What we're talking about: 2017 quotas and trends https://www.theguardian.com/world/2016/oct/31/canada-immigration-quota-2017 The government said it was establishing 300,000 as a new baseline for the admission of permanent residents, with the majority of those allowed into the country to be selected as economic immigrants. 2016 immigration from countries 2016 refugees from countries http://www.ctvnews.ca/mobile/canada/record-number-of-refugees-admitted-to-canada-in-2016-highest-since-1980-1.3382444 According to the UNHCR, the top five countries of origin in 2016 were: Syria: 33,266 Eritrea: 3,934 Iraq: 1,650 Congo: 1,644 Afghanistan: 1,354 ... “Becoming a refugee is never a choice,” Beuze said. “It’s a decision you have to make to save your life and the lives of your children.”
  14. Update on reasons for hate crime charges against Kevin Johnston: https://www.thestar.com/opinion/commentary/2017/08/08/hate-laws-put-reasonable-limits-on-freedom-of-speech.html “It is time for us to take our masculinity back and beat the living hell out of these [Muslims]. Pin them down on the ground, and beat them until they pass out. And when they’re passed out, you beat them further; and when they’re on the ground passed out, kick them, break a kneecap, break an elbow, press their hands backwards turn their wrists sideways, start breaking these guys down.” This is a particularly egregious excerpt from one of Kevin J. Johnston’s Freedom Report videos, in which he angrily encourages Canadians to attack and injure Muslims. Johnston was recently charged under Section 319(2) of the Criminal Code because he is promoting hatred and advocating violence, not because he is criticizing Islam. It seems clear to me that he is actively challenging the hate laws.
  15. There's hope in Wisconsin, a challenge to Paul Ryan. http://www.gq.com/story/randy-bryce-wisconsin-congress-interview Can you talk about the response to your campaign launch video? It seemed to blow up in a huge way. Yeah. Within 24 hours, we had raised over $100,000. And that’s not even making a phone call and asking for anything. And the thing that I’m really proud of are the number of donors, over 30,000 people and the average contribution is under $30. Because I know how hard it is to earn money these days. Just seeing that it’s not a lot of rich people donating money so they can try to tell me what to do. It’s other working people sending like an hour’s worth of pay from wherever they live. And that means so much. Also, I don’t really watch The View, but I heard Whoopi gave me a shout out. And I was on with Lawrence [O’Donnell] and Don Lemon. I mean, the way it took off was just beyond my wildest expectations.
  16. No I wouldn't call it that. I call it a child trying to survive so he can go back to Toronto and his playstation3.
  17. Oh shut up and tell us a travel story.
  18. It's a team. Do you have a travel story?
  19. Awesome.
  20. He was 9. It's over. Except the appeal. Peace. Out.
  21. Yes I'd be worried about an uncivil lynch mob regardless. Duh. Add There is an appeal of his conviction, maybe in a real US court this time. No point jumping to conclusions.
  22. There will always be another wave, another country disrupted. And then all of our kids will go to school together, respect each other, and succeed. That's what's working well in Canada. The kids show us how it works.
  23. You're the one threatening to kill Omar Khadr.
