WestCanMan, We all care about the oil workers and what's going to happen to them now that the fossil fuel industries have to wind down. Transition plans have to be made and supported provincially and federally. Unfortunately, that can't happen unless the Alberta government accepts the reality, and educates and informs the workers. Denial and blaming and misplaced anger are preventing that progress. And that's what will hurt workers more than anything. Alberta's business and government leaders are going to have to suck this up and figure out a realistic and useful way forward. Oppositional defiance in the face of new realities isn't leadership: It's just delusional suicidal (and some homicidal) ranting. Jason Kenney has made himself irrelevant and even dangerous to Alberta by failing to have a viable vision for the future and, instead, just fanning the flames of hatred against 'the East' and Trudeau. That's just pure and dangerous stupidity. Nobody did this to Alberta. The world is changing. Hatred and violence won't change it back.

I was responding to Argus, so I'll continue clarifying on that basis. Argus is saying that it's ok if Transgender people are discriminated against, because they don't really exist: It's pretense. He also says it's ok if Transgender and other prostitutes are violently assaulted: It's their fault for being prostitutes. So it's ok to struggle alone in silence, but not ok to speak out? The issue that needs to be addressed is appropriate safe spaces and services for Trans people. I wouldn't say "nowhere". As it stands right now, fossil fuel production is on life support, kept alive only by public subsidies. All Canadians have to do is shift some subsidies from fossil fuels to renewable energy, and it's all over: Renewables are then more profitable than fossil fuels, investments go where the profits are, and the free market works as it should. The corporate welfare inflating fossil fuel profits has to end as it's interfering with the free market. The politicians in the pockets of the fossil fuel industry are the problem, using our money to artificially create profits that don't exist.

Transgender people were just determined to block them and shield Pride Fest from their hate signs and loudspeakers. And they did. It was the hateful and furious Christian homophobes who attacked the transgender people violently. Your generalized fear of transgender people - transphobia - is noted. But the world moves on without you. Trans people have the protection of the Constitution and hate propaganda laws, which put reasonable limits on your freedom of expression. Attn Argus and WestCanMan in particular. Current scientific knowledge on transgenderism: Genital gender and brain gender develop at different times. M/F depends on the hormones operating at each time. Transgender people have one gender genitals, and the other gender brains. That's why kids may claim the opposite gender quite early: Their brain tells them they're a boy even though they have a vagina, or a girl even though they have a penis. And it's true. It isn't something anyone does or says to them. It is just a very real fact of life. It is also true that genitals can be non-definitive - part vagina part penis. Surgical correction is possible, but best left until the kid identifies their own brain gender. It isn't as simple as man-woman. Anyone like Argus and WestCanMan who deny the reality are not well informed, or simply choose ignorance and prejudice. And yes, some men desire men and some women desire women, and some transgender women desire men, others desire women. It's nobody's business what's under your clothes, or who you desire. There are some complexities to be worked out - sports, washrooms, dressing rooms, shelters. All legitimate issues with answers possible through sensible and respectful discussion ... respectful of the fact that gender is not binary, but complex. That's the way nature is, not black and white but a rainbow of colours.
