  1. I suppose you believe that a business person's lunch is a legitimate expenditure. Why are they so special ? Everyone has to eat lunch. The corporate tax deductions are close to criminal and would be if it were not for the secret corporate lobbying of our politicians. We have an abundance of everything material in Canada. Public transit should be free to the everyone and paid for out of a solid taxe base.
  2. I think a lot of people are being misled about what the Supreme Court was on about. This is nonsense to think or to suggest we are going to have two parallel health care systems in Canada - one for the rich and one for the poor. Please move to the US or elsewhere if that's what you want. I am looking forward to the next election campaign because health care will be the number one issue upon which people will be deciding who to vote for. Things are looking better and better ever day for the Layton New Democrats. Groups vow to fight private health
  3. I have seen on a regular basis gas stations change their price perhaps 3 or 4 times in one day, and often the change is 10 or more cents a litre. And then once one does it they all do it. This is nuts. Our national government needs to intevene and force some stability in the prices. If we have a surplus of oil in Canada there should be two prices, one domestic and one for exports so that all Canadians are somehow benefiting. If our oil importers don't like that then they can go elsewhere to purchase our oil, as I am sure there is a long line up of countries waitng to buy our oil. And if the oil companies don't like that policy then tough, they should get out of doing business in Canada.
  4. Are Republicians cutting the president loose? GOP Senator Says Iraq Looking Like Vietnam
  5. Why not force them to post the company's profits? Taxes are essential for a healthy social democratic society. And most stations already show what the taxes are on their pumps. I would like to see all stores post their prices in one friggin' measure - metric, and show the prices with all the taxes included especially the PST if you have one, & the GST. This is a major corporate con job and consumers are being ripped off as a result.
  6. CES Yes, that is an interesting article and we have a golden opportunity to force changes on the Liberals while they are only a minority government, but only if the opposition parties unite together to do it. And there is not a lot of time left to do it. If we don't do it now, the Liberals could be in power with majority governments for the next 25-50 years. DD for the Liberals is a joke. What where PM Martin's comments on the Liberal Red Books? I remember him saying something to the effect that they were written for the election campaigns only. Once the election campaign is over, you throw the red book away. Conservatives have got to stop going off on tangents. Stick to something solid like proportional representation that will really address the DD. The opposition parties have the votes - they should use them!
  7. Gas prices too high to post for many stations What a dreadful article. Of couse gas stations can post their prices. How much does it cost to have a sign made or to adjust a current sign? It is not like they did not have time to get their act together about these increase in prices. And who do these gas stations think they are kidding by NOT posting a price? Any time I cannot see the price I never even bother to stop!
  8. I'm sure Bre-X, Enron, Worldcom all had audited statements, didn't they? They would have had to being public companies, n'est pas?. I remember once working for a British company and we were undergoing an audit. The auditors found some descrepancies and brought them to the attention of management. Management told the auditors in no uncertain terms that if they wished to keep them as a client they would leave the financial stements as is. The auditors did what they were told, so even audited statements are not a total guarantee that the info you are receiving from the company is accurate. August How can you seriously suggest that white collar crime not be punished? You're putting us on, right?
  9. Solar Power's New Hot Spot Sounds like if these dishes were mass produced the prices might start to become affordable. It definitely sounds like we need a new pollution tax slapped on people and businesses that pollute. Fresh air is a crucial part of our quality of life.
  10. Did you also know the Bre-X VP Steve McNaulty? At least I think he was a VP. He was testifying in Toronto last week at the Federhof insider trading trail and had some interesting things to say.
  11. Put Canada's Arctic on the policy map I wonder if there are as many mosquitos in the Arctic as there are in Winnipeg.
  12. Canada flexes its muscles in dispute over Arctic wastes I suppose this is something we have to do to ensure our sovereignty in the Arctic. I presume if we intend to be serious about this, we are going to have to provide our armed forces with the necessary equipment to do the job. Is this a coincidence of timing or do I hear an election coming on?
  13. sparhawk....I agree.
  14. I think you need to develop a sense of humour. That brandon sun article was the first time in over 100 posts here that the Cons were included as part of the joke. Get over it!
  15. August........that is an intersting website. Thanks. I'm sure more and more people are checking our where they can purchase the cheapest gas these days.
  16. Actually considering her position now as a cabinet minister Belinda is probably killing herself laughing at poor Stevie's problems these days, don'tcha think!
  17. Well, Felderhof is on trial for insider trading in Toronto, which has been going on for years. There is also a class action suit winding its way through the courts in Texarcana, Texas, which is scheduled to go to trial finally next year. When Bre-X ininially collapsed however, the RCMP were involved and then suddenly they dropped their investigation without announcing any reason for it. Very, very strange!
  18. I am joining the list of people supporting the suggestion that Sir Ian Blair resign: Sir Ian, you must go now
  19. I'm hearing rumours of at least one more highly placed Conservative party functionary getting the boot. Anyone else hear anything?
  20. Why is it ok for rich people to live in nicer homes, eat better food and drive nicer cars? Communism is a discredited economic system yet you seem to insist that it is a perfectly viable way to run a health care system. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Your sluring comments about communism are totally unfounded. As well our moderator has asked us not to use that kind of terminology and I believe we should all try to respt his wishes. Canadian values dictate that the rich have a lot of privileges but the one privilege they don't have is going to the front of the line when it comes to health care. In Canada's health care system we are all treated equally. The rich are in the process of destroying our public school systems. We don't need to add health care to the list.
  21. err....your research is fantastic. That was an excellent post comparing the US and Canadian systems. I don't understand why some people think that it is OK for rich people to have better health care than the poor. That is not what Canada is all about. And I think the Layton New Democrats have a golden oportunity to exploit this during the coming national election.
  22. Since when did the Canadian Taxpayers Federation represent anyone except the wealthy in this country? They are a joke and sound like a broken record of failed policies! Their constant mantra publically is lower taxes, but privately it's lower taxes for the rich. CTF policies are what destroy nations, not build them. PM's trip aimed at soothing West, signing deal with Saskatchewan
  23. I agree that Felderhof certainly didn't score any Brownie points for staying away from Canada for many years until this year. He wouldn't even return to Canada for the Bre-X Board meeting when Bre-X received the devastating news that there was no commercial gold on their Indonesian property at Busang. That was my initial impression too, but I am thinking now he was just more of a coward than anything else. It seems like Brx-X was a fraud from the very beginning. It is amazing that so many were taken in by this giant fraud, the biggest the mining industry has ever known, I believe. Quite a tragedy for many people including the founder and CEO of the company.
  24. Big huile says "Nope, no collusion". Gee, what a surprise! Link
  25. Try laughing at yourself once in awhile. It might do you some good. Your one-sided jokes are a bit tiresome.
