This is what happens when we buy into all the hesteria concerning security issues. How bloody tragic for Mahar Arar just as that recent situation in London was even more tragic for Mr Jean Charles de Menezes. This is why we must never give in to losing our freedoms or we will become a police state with all its fascist ramifications. This seems like another classic screwup whether by the US police or Canadian police, what's the difference to Mr Arar, and a very, very good reason we need to at least keep our Canadian police forces on a very short leash. Didn't expect U.S. to send Arar to Syria: Mountie

Let's put nurses in charge of fixin' healthcare?

Editorial: McGuinty must clarify P3 flip-flop Err.......just ignore the troll. Earlier you had mentioned P3s. It sure seems like McGuinty is playing a lot of games here with his gobblygook. It sure seems there is no difference between the right wing Martin Liberals or provincial Liberals for that matter, and the right wing Harper Conservatives. Why bother changing the federal government for the Cons when you get the same thing with the Libs? -
NDP's Layton Wants Probe Into Toronto Port Authority That Jack Layton, protecting the taxpayer's interests, sure sounds like a fiscally responsible person to me.
-
LC Agreed. If the Libranos were smart they would run similiar type "Team" ads and distance themselves a bit from too much just Paul Martin.

Pat Robertson Calls For Chavez To Die
mirror replied to mirror's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Since when did Michael Moore or Noam Chomsky ever make anywhere near of the kind of statement that Pat Robertson did. For all we know Robertson who has a huge, including the US Administration, listening audience, has made those commnets before. As a matter of fact I think he has, and previously as well, there has been an attrempt on Chavez's life. The only difference between bid Laden and Robertson is that bid Laden succeeded with his violent killing mission and Robertson has not yet succeeded. What a sick sick society they have down there in the US. The sooner Canada gets completely away from those monsters the better off all Canadians will be. -
I am so happy the Cons are finally getting off their proverbial butts and doing something. I really don't think it would be good for Canada to have another Liberal majority government but that is very close to what we are facing at the moment. Too bad we couldn't somehow convince the Bloc to support PR and then we would never again be faced with a situation to have a majority national government with between only 35-40% of the votes from Canadians. That more than any other reason is creating the huge disatisfaction with Ottawa at the present time. Canadians by our very nature root for the underdog and we expect at least to have a FAIR voting system.

RC Media. From what I understand RC is filled with separatists so who cares what their negative opinions about Canada are. I thought it was her husband who said that, whatever. That quote reminds of the flag burning incident in Brockville. I think it was played thousands of times over Quebec media to incite the people into voting for sovereignty. Really sick stuff and that quote above I have heard so many times it is beginning to remind me of those sick flag tactics used by, was it Levesque? We really need to lose the paranoia going on in this country about a terrorist around every corner. We haven't been attacked and we probably won't be. How many billions, is it $10 billion, we have already spent for some BS security? If we get attacked we'll deal with it like we deal with every other crisis we have. Chill man.

What woul Harper do if he gets into the position that Martin is presently in? Fire the GG. I doubt it very much and he certainly hasn't suggested otherwise. Come off it. All I'm say is if they the Cons don't latch onto something positive soon which is going to appeal to, not you August, but the average Canadian, they are going to smoked so badly, it will make your head spin. Canadians are looking for policies that are going to help the average Canadian, not the me, me, me of the rich, who don't need any financial help whatosever from our governments.
-
This GG issue is dead and burried. What the Cons need to do is focus on what they can do for Canadians in the future. The rest of Canada can figure out on their own when and where the Liberals are screwing up, and we don't need the Cons to tell us. Conservatives still haven't quite got it. Negative politcs may sell in the big ole fundementalist Christian USA, but they come across as anti-Canadian and just turn people off in Canada. I remember when Trudeau was in power. Canada was ALIVE! Canadians are longing for some kind of positive excitement from their politicians. Why don't the Cons trying suggesting some? I think if you asked people in Canada what the Cons meant to them they would respond by saying: They don't like SSM They don't like gun protection They don't like Canda but they like the US They don't like any religions except fundamentalist Christians and Jews. They don't like Canada's health care system They don't like teachers NOR the public school system They don't like the poor Get it!

Wells is probably the most intelligent and independent political commentator we have in Canada, bar none!

So this is the Liberal game of ethics and integrity: 1 Dithers says he is going to call election 30 days after Gomery 2 As we approach Gomery polls are NOT good 3 Use MSM Liberal ally (read: Globe & Mail) to test waters with trail baloon about changing the date of election 4 Within a matter of a few hours the reaction from Canadians is horrific. The trial baloon went over like a lead baloon. 5 Dithers comes out and says he is keeping his promise. 6 Hero my ass! Con artist, perhaps. You can fool some of the people some of the time, you can even fool all of the people some of the time, but you certainly can't fool all of the people, all of the time!

Link Finally, after a long summer drought, some good news for Conservatives:

Pat Robertson Calls For Chavez To Die

Right! -
I think it is the same situation as it was for Trudeau only in reverse. Trudeau came from a mixed parents as well, but he was never considered English just like Martin is not considered French, by the vast majority of Canadians.

Let's see if we can sort this out. Lib Con Bloc NDP Ind Spk Total 2004 election results 135 99 54 19 1 0 308 Speaker 134 99 54 19 1 1 308 Cadman 134 99 54 19 0 1 307 O'Brien 133 99 54 19 1 1 307 Parrish 132 99 54 19 2 1 307 Kilgour 131 99 54 19 3 1 307 Stronach 132 98 54 19 3 1 307 Any more changes than those above anyone knows about? So if these above figures are correct to pass, or NOT pass, a piece of legislation 154 votes are required (306 divided by 2 = 153. Then add 1 to get a majority vote of 154 votes) So who has a minimm of 154 votes: Libs & Bloc = 186 votes Libs & Cons = 230 votes Libs & NDP & 3 Ind = 154 votes ( highly unlikely, but possible) Cons & Bloc + 3 Ind = 155 votes ( more possible than previous grouping) Cons & Bloc & NDP = 171 seats If anyone is under the impression that the three independent MPs are non-events come this Fall, they are sadly mistaken. Already Dithers trial balloon about delaying the election as he promised last year has gone over like a lead baloon, and he has recanted today, trying to end any more discussion about it. After analysing these stats does anyone else here get the feeling that the decision about the election date may not be up to Dithers at all?

Martinites worried about election call:

Picked up from someplace else but truly a great quote: -
Join the NDP, Parrish, they call Americans idiots

Excellent points. -
Are you nuts - take a look at the last 20 national polls. Harper has been in freefall for months and is now less popular than Layton. The Cons will be very lucky to get 75 seats this time around. The biggest threat to Canada at the moment is that the Liberals will get another majority government.

Why else would they be talking with reporters if Dithers wasn't trying to weasle out of it? -
The Cons don't want an election any more than the Libranos. Both of those party leaders know they are respectively toast if that were to happen now, or in the near future. Bad as it is for Dithers, and it's very bad, it is much worse for Harper.

All you people who have attacked Parrish for stomping on a Bush doll would have had a lot more credibility if you had equally attacked Par Robertson with the same venom for suggesting that Chavez, the President of Venezula, be killed. Unfortunately some of you didn't and that says a lot about your seriously screwed up value systems. The more I see and hear about Carolyn Parrish, our Independent MP, the more I am beginning to respect her. It seems like our Independent MPs like Parrish and Cadman are (past tense for Chuck Cadman unfortunately) developing more credibility that a lot of their respective former party hacks. -
I expect all hell is going to break loose this Fall as everyone is going to be jockeying for position in a supposed election call 30 days after Gomery although surprise, suprprise, Diithers is trying to weasle out of it. I wonder what the real numbers are now: Commons will again play numbers game
