  1. We have just started to put money back into healthcare. Give it a dozen years or so to offset the major withdrawals it had while PM Martin was Finance Minister and he forced all the provinces to make major right wing cutbacks.
  2. We have signed a trade agreement and we keep our word. Why doesn't the US do the same? Even our dumbass Canadian negotiators like Richie who negotiated this agreement has said that he never would have supported NAFTA if he thought the Americans would not live up to what they agreed to. The US is going to pay back those CRIMINAL softwood lumber duties or NAFTA will be ripped up by Canada. It's as simple as that. And the sooner we start selling anything we export somewhere else than the US the better off all Candians will be. We should start by opening up negotiations with CHINA over our oil exports.
  3. Fresh wind from the West I wonder where Vancity Credit Union fits into the scheme of things. It is pretty big, I thought.
  4. NDP's Layton calls for gas price investigation I think this suggestion is going to strike a chord amogst the average Canadian who must really be impacted by these rising energy prices. I know for myself just the cost of getting to and from work seems like it has doubled for the price of gasoline. So of couse I am going to ensure that I am compensated for this by my employer.
  5. Harper finds the Rock a hard place There is no question the Cons are in freefall. I guess the question on a lot of people's minds is how far can they sink. The problem in politics is once you have sullied your reputation, it is almost impossible to rebuild it. I would say right now the Cons are probably in the 50 -75 seat range possibilities for the next federal election. Now the Liberals are starting to act cocky again according to the latest media reports. The one thing we don't need in Canada right now is another majority Liiberal government. If Harper can't cut it, and it sure does not look like he can, at least in federal politics, people might want to seriously consider having a serious look at the Layton New Democrats who it growingly appears, are the country's best alternative to preventing the Liberals from forming another majority government.
  6. Duelling opinions over dual citizenship I have dual citizenship but it does not in any way preclude me from being loyal to Canada, or Quebec for that matter.
  7. I wonder if any of the party positions have changed since June, 2004, the date of the previous national election. I wonder what the party positions now are on: child care Canadian troops in Afghanistan gun control importance of UN global warming taxes health care tuition fees for education R & D softwood lumber Devil's Lake BSE security taxation incentives for small business Wal-Mart drugs, legalization of foreign ownership trade agreements such as NAFTA, FTA
  8. Pas question de renverser les libéraux sans l'appui du NPD Gee, Harper must be really good at math. How long did it take him to figure this one out? This is quite a switch over the past year. What a comedown for the Conservatives. I remember not too long ago when Harper did not even want to discuss the NDP. Now according to the latest polls The NDP are only 6% behind the Cons and conceivably could close the gap before the next election. I guess Harper has had enough of the backlash for jumping into bed with the separatists in his futile attempts to bring the Liberals down.
  9. Enough of the silliness over the opposition to our new GG designate. Let's put this baby to bed, eh! Michaelle Jean's defining moment Moi aussi.
  10. err...........I think blocking the sale of Terasen Gas might catch their attention. Then a tax to be paid by the purchaser on any oil and gas exported to the US. The tax could go towards helping the thousands of people that have been deprived of their employment since the US started this criminal tariff on our softwood lumber exports to the US. Any time they screw around with our trade agreements in future we could just ratchet up the percentage of the export tax. The oil situation is so tight it would not take very much to have a significant impact almost immediately. And in the meantime we should start to diversify our trade with other countries than the US. China I am quite sure would be very happy to purchase our oil.
  11. I thought you were asked to stop with this nonsense
  12. Lord comments helped separatists, MP charges This whole debate now has nothing whatosoever to do with the GG's loyalty to Canada and everything to do with partisan politics whether it is the comments of Savoy, Lord, Frum, Coyne, and whoever else.
  13. A friend e-mailed this to me today. It is from the Aug 17/05 edition of the SF Gate Quite sad is all I can say!
  14. BBM......THELIBERAL passed away. We had the funeral for him yesterday.
  15. Alberta should play the game a bit smarter and consider following Quebec's example and be part of the government instead of constantly being on the outside looking in. A good analogy is environmentalists. They should join the NDP and work from within the NDP rather that stay connected to the Greens, who have never ever won a seat, and maybe never will.
  16. Merger Boy Sounds like this poor fella Stephen can't do anything right. Even Conservative media are attacking him now.
  17. It's "Or were you just trolling?"
  18. Leading article: How to forfeit the public trust No one is trying to put down the police here. The police bring their disrepute unto themselves by their own behaviour. I do think though the Britain should reconsider allowing the police to be armed, and perhaps we might want to consider this strategy for Canada as well.
  19. Police may face public inquiry over shooting of Brazilian What are we to do if our police forces can't be honest and above board and always tell us the truth?
  20. What are your favourite recreational activities in the summertime? Water has always had a big attraction for me, always living either near a lake or an ocean. I enjoy camping, swimming, kayaking, fishing, etc. Swimming Holes
  21. Enough of the sanctimonious harping and time for a history lesson. The line "screw the west we'll win the rest" is an infamous quote from the 1980 Canadian Federal Election. Former Liberal Senator Keith Davey was caught using the line. (Can't remember exaclty how he was "caught".) Regardless, any person with a true interest in Canadian politics should at least have a passing familiarity with the quote. Mirror your bush league trolling really is quite annoying. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Your well thought out arguments are............... Your mature comments are................ Your starting up with the personal insults AGAIN are PRICELESS. For everything else there is Mastercard.
  22. Any idea where they spent that money? Wasn't on roads! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Maybe the NDP has been paying down the debt of the Devine Tories. That expression "Devine Tories" always cracks me up! What were the Devine Tories - some of the worst criminal politicians Canada has every had, I believe.
  23. Actually if you can believe it BC, the last time I checked, is a HAVE NOT province. Maybe having a strong NDP opposition to the government will help to turn that around.
  24. If you have any complaints tell Greg. Otherwise shup up! Oh, I get it now. You mean like Trudeau giving people who were pelting his railway car the Salmon Arm salute because he had his young children with him and was concerned for their safety. What a whiner you are.
  25. That's pretty sad to think any Canadian would feel that way about our national government. How is the West being screwed? Alberta, Saskatchewan, and BC probably are probably the most affluent provinces in the country. I honestly don't know what you're on about. Just because the rest of Canada isn't buying into the reactionary policies of Stephan Harper does not mean the West is getting screwed. If there are some legitimate beefs yes they should be addressed. But this crap about triple E senate is nonsense and a complete waste of time. It is never ever going to happen. The West needs to join into confederation with the rest of Canada and focus on some realistic issues.
