Link OIL HITS US$68. A BARREL TODAY IN ASIAN TRADING Many people will be using their bikes much, much more in the years to come. I wonder if you can get snow tires for a bicycle. Oh yea, where I live I don't need snow tires, almost forgot. Snow is not allowed here, at least for any extended period of time. The time has come for our Canadian municipalities ot offer free public transportation to its users. The money to pay for it will come from the gasoline tax that is being reimbursed to our municipalities by our national government.

Let's put nurses in charge of fixin' healthcare?

Here is something which caught me eye which should be a boost and a shot in the arm to Canada's public health care system. DOCTORS ARE COMING HOME TO CANADA New numbers reverse 30-year trend -
Alberta haters. Give US a break. Your hockey teams aren't that good, are they? Name one prominent Canadian that supports Alberta's separation.

Liz There are some people here who you will never convince. You have just heard from a couple of them. Fortunately there are more enlightened people working in our justice system that try and find the right balance in how to deal with situations such as this. And they make mistakes as well. I once heard a judge, Waly Oppal, who is now a BC cabinet minister, talking about sentencing people for crimes. There is pressure from all sides, from the vigilante justice people who want revenge, from the penal system which is buckling at the seams, and from the people that are working to rehabilitate offenders. Canada I was surprised to learn incarcerates more people per capita than most other industralized nations. I agree with you that trying to understand and root out the causes of crime are essential. There are a lot of factors at work including home situation, peer pressure, TV violence and its celebration of crime culture, and the media which love to sensationalize the news to sell their ads. I have heard that News departments actually seach out the worst possible news on purpose, so that people when they see the ads, are so comforted by them they go out and purchase those products. That is one of the major reasons I prefer the CBC to corporate media. -
Simple. The right wing Saskatchewn Party (read: Grant Devine & the Cons) in cahoots with the corporate press spend their life attacking the social democratic Calvert government. So what else is new. In Alberta of course the corporate media is in love with the capitalist Klein government.

You have had to deal with quite a tramatic situation at a young age. My grandmother use to tell me that it is how you act in the bad times that build your character. You sound like a very healthy young person. Good on you. -
Well maybe not through the clouds yet, but surpassed $67. today. Better keep that gas tank full at least until after Labour Day! Of couse there is no rigging of the prices by big huile!

Liz Welcome to MLW. Well thought out post. Thanks for sharing your personal experience and perceptions about this situation. I once heard Jason's Dad, who I believe is an Anglican priest, speak about forgiveness. I was very favourably impressed with his approach. I think he has been a shining light for our Canadian society. -
If my calculator works our dolla is trading today at US$0.8404, less than 16 cents away from par with da yankee dolla! I have just been following the currency chart for past few minutes, my goodness the yankee dolla is sinking like a stone at least against our loonie. At the moment the price of a yankee dolla is even less than I have posted above. It jumps around though. Forex: The Loonie Reaches 9-month Highs on Record Oil Prices

Oh Oh, DJIA is at 10, 440, down almost 80 so far today. Maybe that technicial analyst was correct with his forecast that we are about to go down, down, down. Time for the shorts to make some money, me thinks! Hum, I wonder what industies are overpriced.

WK's take on the ads:
-
Trudeau may have been physically short, but he stands tall amongst any politicians we have have had in the last 50 years in Canada. He was in a league by himself and probably was 50 years ahead of his time. For trying to make Canada more independent of the US he was labeled a commie by the establishment. Trudeau much to his chagrin brought in the War Measures Act because a Quebec premier whimped out , and effectively crushed the FLQ. A British diplomat's life was saved in the process. Trudeau's greatest achievement was in difusing separation in Quebec roundly thumping Levesque 60-40 in the Quebec separation refendum. Quebec at the time had English only menus in Montreal, if you wanted a decent job you had to speak English, and few French in the federal civil service. Trudeau tried to bilingualize the country but was blocked primarily by anglo bigots. When the CRTC brought the first French TV network to BC I think there was even a riot. By bringing French into the civil service and promoting French he took away the major complaints Quebecers had for separation. Trudeau was very progressive having marched with asbestos strikers against Quebec premier Duplessis, dated very high profile women like Barbara Streisland, and probably was the most intellectual PM this country has ever had. Other people have commented on the constitution and the NEP. Trudeau is sorely missed by the vast majority of Canadians.

Actually Saskatchewan, Alberta, and Ontarion are HAVE provinces at the present time. And I think BC will return to the fold in the not too distant future.

Tell us where our $35-million went This should get interesting, and good timing as well.

Ontario fears 'have-not' status Ontario is in jeopardy of becoming a have-not province. How Sad. Although I don't expect too many tears will be shed outside of Ontario. Apart from the other provinces that are going to have to bail them out that is.

The Problem with Federal Elections
mirror replied to cybercoma's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
A chance for politics to come in from the cold I think this is the best possible idea but unfortunately there is one political party that would never buy into it. Guess which one? If you said Conservatives, you would be absolutely right. The difference between the Conservatives and the New Democrats is that the New Democrats have policies but they can't get people to discuss them, and the Conservatives have policies but they don't want people to discuss them. -

PM to play rough on trade Martin is going to get tough with the US in retaliation for the softwood lumber duties. Unfortunately he has to wait until at least next year before Canada can do anything. Yup, that's real tough, I can see the Americans trembling in their boots. -
Gun crimes to top agenda We have to stop the gun violence, there is no question about that. So how are we going to stop the gun violence if we don't get rid of guns? And minimum sentences of what, for what offences? Shutting down TV that carrys violence, closing the US border, training and getting people off welfare and into decent jobs, child care support, are some suggestions. If we can be so successful with banning smoking, then we can do it with guns as well, don't you think?

Liberals want Rae to join fold The remaking of the former Ontario NDP premier into a Liberal. What a farce. This whole country is ruled by elites who change political parties, and principles be dammed as long as you have POWER, eh!
