Martin faces pressure to put off election call The Martinites are starting to sweat bullets and are trying to weasle out of calling an elction promised by PM Martin for 30 days following the Gomery commission report.. They know they cannot win a majority government and that PM Martin's political future is TOAST if they get another minority government. Ha! It looks good on them!

Canadian Dollar Rises for a Third Day on Growth, Rate Outlook Buy Canadian dollar vs Norwegian crown - SEB I wonder if our Canuk dolla is gonna be close to US$0.90 soon!

KISS: Keep it simple, stupid theory. Reduce GST by 2% to 5%. Don't ask the CEOs with their million dollar options perks, instead ask the poor if that is what they would like.
-
Bob Rae, second choice to replace Mr Dithers.
-
This is BS. The poor spend most of their income on food/rent/housing which are GST exempt. In addition, they qualify for GST tax refunds for the small portion of income they do spend on GST. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Go back and re-read what I wrote.

Of course PM Martin is an anglo. Just like Chretien used to ham it up that his English wasn't good, Martin likes to ham it up that he is a franco. Both for political reasons of course.
-
I think Prentice has potential as well but the Conservatives should chose a francophone next time around, as they really need to establish themselves in Quebec.
-
If either of these two parties were wise, which they often don't seem to be, they would change their leaders as both PM Martin & Harper are albatrosses around their respective party's neck. I don't remember a time when party leaders were so unpopular with Canadian voters. Jeez!!! SES- Sun Media Poll - Martin and Harper: What would Canadians change
-
Poor people spend substantially more of their income percentagewise on the GST than the rich. I believe in the KISS theory of economics. Just lower the rate across the board and all Canadians will benefit however the poor will benefit proportionally more than the rich. All those in favour of reducing GST to 5% vote for...........party.

There is a New England state, Vermont I believe, that has a law banning all billboard or any other form of advertising on their highways. I always notice when I'm driving in the country, away from the neon signs or billboards, etc., how much more relaxed I am. I believe all highway advertising apart from government safety or directional notices should be removed from all our roads. Stop occasionally and learn a little bit about nature. We are there to drive, NOT read!

Parrish says she'll vote against Martin government

In some ways I would not mind a Cons minority government as their hands would be tied to a large extent so they could not do too much damage. It would perhaps get the Liberals to lose some of their arrogance and it is no good in any political system to have one party in power for too a period of time. That should be the opposition theme song for the next election. -
SES Research NationState Poll - Martin and Harper: Potential Successors McKenna: The Liberals must have a death wish! Anyway it is gonna be a francophone as they always alternate. Cauchon perhaps. MacKay: Same goes for the Conservatives. He'll never cut it as PM. It is probably gonna be Lord. Interesting though. I guess most Canadians are quite content with New Democrat Party leader Jack Layton.
-
Nothing clandestine here. I think PM Martin is just practicing some good time management skills. He should however bill the Liberal party for the that portion of his trip that is strictly Liberal party business, and bill the rest of us for the government business end of things.

Up yesterday, up today, where she'll stop, nobody knows:

Geologist feared dead in gold mine scam is still alive, claims wife This really is incredible. The guy who was responsible for the actual salting of the gold, who reportedly jumped out of a helecopter in Indonesia, but whose body was too mangled by wild boars to properly identify, and whose body was supposed cremated, is apparently alive, and has at least twice sent money to one of his wives.

Pat Robertson Calls For Chavez To Die
mirror posted a topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Pat Robertson Calls For Assassination Of Venezuelan President If eveyone completely nuts in the US? For a prominent individual in American society to make a comment such as this, and for Americans to sit idly by and accept these kind of comments are tragic in the extreme. With people like this on the loose in America, the US is turning into one of the sickest societies on the planet. -
Should CN Have Its Railway Licence Revoked?
mirror replied to mirror's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Private, and, incidentally, determined to lose every customer it has. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> If that's their goal they should easily accomplish it. What a public relations disaster CN is in. Better call in Hills and Knowlton. -
I know he was supposed to have at least 1/2 dozen children and a stout wife, but how stout did a stalwart peasant in a sheepskin coat's wife have to be?
-
Actually I would like to see the Layton New Democrats have, as part of their party platform in the next election, reduce the GST by 2% to 5%. I also would like to see a law passed where the price of goods has all the taxes including GST & PST included in its price, whether it be on the item itself, or in any advertising for the item.

Heat rises on London police chief This is certainly becoming an ugly international incident. I mean how long do you try to protect someone's job after they have really screwed up, and by that person remaining in their position it casts aspirations on your entire organization? That is the very issue which is at stake here. Sometines it is better to bit the bullet sooner than later, before you have destroyed your credibility and seriously damaged your reputation.

Prescott takes a swipe at Sir Ian I wonder how much longer they are going to stonewall over this police cover-up!

Parrish says she'll vote against Martin government
mirror replied to mirror's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Don't forget what happened last session when the speaker had to vote to break a tie otherwise the government was going to be defeated. In a situation where potentially every vote counts, Parrish's vote could possibly end up bringing down the government this Fall. She may end up being in the position Chuck Cadman was in last session. -
Let's rock & roll boys and girls, as here we go again:

I would like to see a tax decrease for those with less than $50,000. annual income to offset all the tax loopholes that those above that income bracket are privvy to. That's a neat trick. Everything that is found to be in surplus for the federal budget has to go into paying down the federal debt, once the books are finalized. Well I suppose this is one way to bring down the debt, and avoiding the braying of the high tax bracket hounds for their pound of flesh, err, tax decreases.

The last thing the Liberals are going to want is an election now: L - 36% C - 28% N - 17% Toro Check the "Latest federal opinion poll" thread for all the details including the regional breakdowns.
