  1. He's reading from a different bible!
  2. Wherever did you learn to spell? Take about calling the kettle black. Perhaps you would do well to take our moderators suggestion to "stop with the insults" to heart, as these kind of comments will drive good people away from here, and will destroy this discussion board. If you are sincerely wanting to improve things things here use the PM system to make suggestions to people rather than putting these criticisms out front in public.
  3. Well said. With the rising price of gas perhaps we are going to see the end of the car culture, at least for the masses.
  4. Clever and accurate response.
  5. I well remember this above incident in the news, however it was another MP not Preston Manning. The sad reality is that this is a lot more common than we are prepared to admit as our Canadian goodie two shoes image suggests. Progressive people laugh when they hear Liberals and Conservatives going at it over their media representation or more to the point, their lack of it. The reality is the media apart from the CBC, are owned by big business so obviously the New Democrats are severely underrepresented. Without wanting to turn this thread into another BS religious discussion, the New Democrats probably have more Christian ministers representing them in Parliament than any other party. As far as Canada, or more precisely English Canada having some great journalists, for some independent thinkers as opposed to those who are sheeplike and follow the crowd, try reading Paul Wells at Macleans, Chantel Hebert, James Travers, Linda McQuaig, and Carol Goar at the Toronto Star, Heather Mallick & Rick Salutin at the Globe and Mail, and Reverend Blair at Vive le Canada. They are there if you look for them. BTW I thought the moderator here asked us to not insult each other. I think we need to respect his request.
  6. It makes no difference whether it is the Harper Conservatives or Martin Liberals who hold power in Ottawa as they are both the same, useless, group of political hasbeens, to me. However as far as Quebec is concerned, and to keep them in our current dysfunctional Canadian family, the last thing we need is for the Harper Conservatives to take power in Ottawa. I miss Trudeau. And Levesque. Who knows, maybe Layton and Duceppe will be the ones to replace them. But for goodness sake, let's get rid of Charest.
  7. Canadians used to gloat over how much better shape they were in than their American cousins. Well we will have no more of that. Apparently we have an adult obesity crisis in Canada and one out of four Canadians are seriously overweight. Like father, like son, children are have the same sort of problems. What are I/you/we going to do about it? I think I will try jogging a few times a week and see what happens as I have heard that is a good way to lose weight.
  8. You can't just say it is just those crazy rock stars like Bono, and Nobel Peace Prize Nominee Geldof, who are promoting giving more assistance to Africa to help them get out of poverty. Now democratically elected British PM Tony Blair says he wants Canada and the other G8 countries to double their contribution of foreign aid to Africa, and that he is prepared to stand firm with his resolve on this issue.
  9. Bakunin Do you mean like how organized religion has twisted things around since Christ was born to suit its purpose? At one time priests used to marry, and now they cannot. Have you ever asked yourself why?
  10. Marilyn Trenholme Counsell, a Canadian Senator, said today, during debate on the same-sex legislation, that Jesus Christ would be supportive of the gay marriage bill. What is going to be her fate within the RC church? Will she be denied communion like the Northern Ontario New Democratic member of Parliament Charlie Angus?
  11. A Norwegian parliamentarian has nominated Bob Geldof, the Live 8 organizer, for the 2006 Nobel Peace Prize. I think Geldof is a suitable candidate, but what do you think of his nomination, and what do you think his chances are?
  12. Unless there are some changes and the Democrats take back control of the Congress in 2006. Too much to hope for, I suppose. I hear both reporters, not Novak of course, are going to jail within 24 hours.
  13. For a couple of years now investigators have been trying to discover who leaked the information to reporters (Novak, etc) about Valerie Plame being a covert CIA operative, which is a criminal activity in the US. Special Counsel Patrick Fitzgerald is now insisting that Time magazine reporter Matthew Cooper testify before the grand jury. This is beginning to have to the earmarks of the Nixon "Watergate Scandal" all over it.
  14. What is the matter with these political parties that refuse to act after it is quite obvious that their leader is not cutting it with the voting public? A good case in point is the situation in Quebec with Premier Jean Charest. Are there any plans in the works to replace him before the next provincial election, or are we just going to sit idly by, and watch a tired, boring, lack of any new ideas party like the PQ get relected, and start up with their nonsense about separation all over again. I know we have already had two referendums run by the Quebec provincial government, which the federalists have won, and now we have the Clarity Act enacted by the federal government, but why should Quebec be allowed to keep up this separation silliness forever?
