  1. Looks like you're right, here's the quote from the link I'm providing below: 12] in 1946, the Judicial Committee finally heard the appeal and upheld the decision of the majority of the Supreme Court,[13] clearing the way for Parliament to enact legislation to end all appeals to the Judicial Committee, whether from the Supreme Court or from the provincial courts of appeal. In 1949, Parliament passed an amendment to the Supreme Court Act which abolished all appeals, making the Court truly the Supreme Court.[14] However, cases which had been instituted in the lower courts prior to the amendment could still be appealed to the Judicial Committee. The last Canadian appeal to the Judicial Committee was not decided until 1960.[15] However I disagree with the rest of your comment. WWWTT Edited to add the link I forgot!!!! http://ri.search.yahoo.com/_ylt=A0LEVv35yElTkEQA6W8XFwx.;_ylu=X3oDMTByMG04Z2o2BHNlYwNzcgRwb3MDMQRjb2xvA2JmMQR2dGlkAw--/RV=2/RE=1397373305/RO=10/RU=http%3a%2f%2fen.wikipedia.org%2fwiki%2fCourt_system_of_Canada/RK=0/RS=NZB6I2d_E2X4ZrcQkWraKotkWhw-
  2. Once again, you're going to have to start producing examples of where/when this happened. I would be very interested if you can actually produce an example, and on the other hand, I'll be disappointed if this is just your opinion! WWWTT
  3. You have a link to back this up, what examples are you thinking of? I guess you never heard of the appeal process? WWWTT
  4. This comment, in my opinion has a tremendous amount of credit! I don't think that laws, the charter and constitution are really all that difficult, but when you talk to an alleged "constitutional lawyer" they will go out of their way to make everything sound difficult! I feel that this is intentionally done so that they can justify their $500/hr+ price tag! WWWTT
  5. Not always the case BG. An example I can think of was the special laws that McGuinty rammed through Queens Park just before the now infamous G8/G20 convention! WWWTT
  6. Just read this link that sheds some new light on what the Malaysian military knew and how they reacted. https://us.lrd.yahoo.com/_ylt=At3gmkCa4eZw_ju49ZcC6FPedPV_;_ylu=X3oDMTQ0cGY4dDY5BGFjdANpbWFnZQRpbnRsA2NhBGl0YwMwBGxwb3MDMQRtY29kZQNBZ0JUU1hZUUFGeS9FQUJqblJBQU1JRVFBSE1uBG1wb3MDMQRwa2cDaWQtMTkwNjQxOARwb3MDMQRzZWMDdGQtZmVhBHRlc3QDBHZlcnNpb24DbGVnbwR3b2UDNDQzMQ--;_ylg=X3oDMTE5cHE0NjFxBGludGwDY2EEbGFuZwNlbi1jYQRwc3RhaWQDBHBzdGNhdAMEcHQDcG1o;_ylv=0/SIG=14d8pdhip/EXP=1398533116/**http%3A//ca.news.yahoo.com/exclusive-malaysia-starts-investigating-confused-initial-response-missing-095014401--sector.html Looks like that they could end getting sued for their lack of in actions in this as well. WWWTT
  7. Yes sorry I meant both the Charter and the constitution. And yes it's a big waste of money! Did you really believe the conservative government cares about wastefully spending money? WWWTT
  8. Sorry never said that the government can change the constitution as easy as passing a bill until it achieves royal accent. What I am saying is that there is nothing in the constitution that says the government (federal, provincial or regional/municipal) can only create laws that are in line with the constitution. WWWTT
  9. How's what? I know you already think that to be true, I'm not going to debate it with you anymore! I can explain it to you another way if you like? WWWTT
  10. Can you prove that? You have a recent link that backs this up? A poll perhaps? Regardless, constitution can not just be voted away because you are implying the public is all for it! WWWTT
  11. False! Nothing in the constitution says so. WWWTT
  12. Because a few laws are NOT CONSTITUTIONAL does not mean that we now live in a dictatorship! That's the part that you want to omit here, the constitution. Another big job of the senate to has fallen to partisan politics that has led to this. WWWTT
  13. Unless I missed something here, it seems that everyone here is under the impression that there are no restrictions on some knives. WWWTT
  14. Nope you can't be penalized for criticizing a politicians actions on this web site! From what I read so far, that's all you're doing. You didn't call anyone any names and are playing fair ball! As far as MH goes for posting what Bob Rae said of Flaherty and Harper of Layton, these are well rounded seasoned politicians that know exactly how to capitalize on any/every opportunity to win votes! Also, they were colleagues. So probably in death, after playing politics with each other for so long, they knew when enough is enough. But I personally wouldn't be attacking a dead mans policies/actions so soon after death WWWTT
  15. Thanks for the update Topaz. Sounds like something hard to live with and I hope your son stays strong! WWWTT
  16. Oh no I'm sorry he died! Just making an observation. Saw Jack Layton lose a lot of weight too before he died. Sorry he died just the same. Sounds like you've got some info about his steroid use to treat a condition. Doesn't answer anything about if he was regularly exercising. But I'll let you get back to his politics. WWWTT
  17. Superior court of Los Angeles county found OJ not guilty (same as innocent), but after lawsuit cases went through, he was found liable for the deaths (whatever that means) All I know is that he had to pay out in the end after the civil action. Keep in mind that not fulfilling your end of the bargain is reasonable reason that you're going to lose a case and have to pay out. Causing damages is another no brainer. Malaysia airlines was supposed to safely and comfortably transport the passengers from point A to point B. They failed to do that. When this goes to court, what is air Malaysia going to say, "hey we don't know where the plane went, don't know where the passengers are, so all we're paying is what we are committed to through the Montreal convention? We're not responsible because the plaintiff can't prove we're responsible for our lost plane?" Guaranteed that if a judge hears that, he/she is going to rip into the airliner. I can see if the plane was shot down without provocation by a military jet/missle. But that's about it. WWWTT
  18. Sorry to hear he died. He looked like he was packing away a few extra pounds over the last couple of years and I wonder how that had any effect. Maybe this was diet related and/or lack of exercise? Also his sudden departure a few weeks ago. Wonder if his doctors told him something? WWWTT
  19. Just using the case as an example of where a higher stat court found him innocent, but the civil court found him liable using lower standards. Just an example to the missing Malaysian flight, not trying to open any new debate. WWWTT
  20. After seeing some of the settlements from the US, I wouldn't bet on anything! Civil courts don't need to meet as high of standard/scrutiny as federal/provincial in Canada. Same in the US. We saw that with the OJ Simpson case! Not sure with that part of Asia and their justice systems. I'm only making guesses from what I remember of past cases here and this case can be moving into unchartered territory. WWWTT
  21. I think eyeball makes a good point here. I think maybe you are looking at it from an odd angle. The US environment may in some areas cause more stress on people(but I don't know, don't live there). But I know fore sure that health treatment in the US is not as readily available to lower income people, so maybe you are only witnessing the untreated people's health problems. Maybe this gives an illusion that there are more mental health issues there. Whereas in a country with better access, people with health issues are tended to before their problem becomes more severe. How the society in a country perceives health issues is a big factor as eyeball pointed out. But I still believe that access to deadly weapons is still an issue to not belittle. Nothing wrong with checks and balances. WWWTT
  22. Taking a break is not a bad thing either. I can see getting steamed up over an out of control debate/thread, I think it happens to everyone here. No point in staying angry forever. WWWTT
  23. I agree with you very much GH! For someone to want to go out and kill other people, something's very wrong with that person! Society has to step in and actually picture/visualize the perpetrator as someone who needs help. And for a country like the US, where their main solution to criminals is longer sentences upon conviction coupled with the desire to shrink government and social activity/help/spending, don't expect the problem to vanish WWWTT
