The Media Is Lefty
JerrySeinfeld replied to JerrySeinfeld's topic in Canada / United States Relations
News channels have one responsibility: make money for their shareholders. If that goal can be accomplished by reporting news in certain ways then they will do that. A public broadcaster is a little better because it does not have the profit motive, however, even a public broadcaster has to deal with a different set of biases. It's a little different when you hide under the guise of objectivity but secretly share your biases with all of your colleagues behind the scenes. Face it. The newsmedia is, by and large, leftist propaganda. Then when one or two stations sprouts up to spit into the extremely strong lefty wind (ie. Fox), they get lambasted by the left as extremist and biased. What a joke. -
Unfortunately for your side of this argument, Betsy, it is the state, not the churches, who issue marriage licenses. Churches always could and will always be allowed to determine who meets the standards of their sacraments, but where the state has taken upon itself to begin issuing licenses, it *must* treat its citizens fairly and equally. There was an interesting exchange that circulated via email down here in the US this past week regarding gay marriage. I don't know if it made its way up to Canada: http://www.snopes.com/politics/quotes/raskin.asp Exactly how would the charter be violated if SSM was not allowed and instead civil unions were in place, with exactly the same spousal rights as a marriage?

It's not hyporcrisy when you understand the point of the article (and the sub title of my topic), which is that Islam sees itself as different from and superior to other religions which deserve no respect, which is completely different from the other religions on earth. What about the Jews? Christians? You do remember the crusades right? And jews see themselves as God's chosen children. No I don't remember the crusades. That is ANCIENT HISTORY. In today's world we are dealing with ONE intolerant religion.

Go ahead, Liberals. Make Canada's day
JerrySeinfeld replied to scribblet's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
My daughter has infant twins. She is panting after her $200/mo she expects Harper to give her. She doesn't need the money. I'd rather the money go to someone who actually does need it. Like who? Chuck Guitee? -
The safest place to live is right beside a Hell's Angels clubhouse. So what if they're the baddest asses on the planet? Hey, they're our friends 'cause if we didn't call them our friends they would commit all their bad-ass crimes on us! I guess it is better than living beside a Vietnamese gang house or a Indo-Canadian gang house so hey, we should be happy that we live next to the "nicest" criminal on the planet. Tell you what: you go live in North Korea & Iran for a few years then get back to me on that ridiculous comment.

Part Two: Exposing the Private Healthcare Industry
JerrySeinfeld replied to Nocrap's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Corporations do NOT provide the food and clothing you wear, labour does. You and me. Corporations are groups of people - organizations containing people and owned by people. That's a big lefty lie - that a "corporation" is some evil entity out there and is separate from you and me and your neighbours. Corporations are owned by and comprised of YOU ME and our NEIGHBOURS. -
Part Two: Exposing the Private Healthcare Industry
JerrySeinfeld replied to Nocrap's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
HOLY SHIT! That's the longest post ever, for sure. Anyway I think the gist of your post is "private health care: bad, public health care: good" There are way too many nuances to discuss. But generally I think anyone who assumes that private is bad and public is good is oversimplifying. Even all of our Euro-socialist brethren countries, including SWEDEN, have all incorporated some degree of private provision and insurance to take on the burden of care on an ever aging boomer population. -
What Unites Canada's "Right"?
JerrySeinfeld replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I will certainly agree that this is the base of all conservativism, both social and fiscal. Most Canadians, both right and left, are appalled at gov't waste, but perhaps for different reasons. The problem is, to 'identify' with the right, they need strong, evident policies, and 'less' is an ambiguous term. If it were coupled with 'less taxes', it may be more 'evident', but the minor tax cuts proposed by Harper (through no fault of his own, minority gov'ts have to 'appease', rather than lead) don't cut the mustard. Canadians are 'socialist', by and large, so they equate 'less gov't' with eliminating social programs. As you say, there are some things the gov't shouldn't do, (funding 'arts', for example) but most gov't programs are lumped together in the minds of many. If Canadians were really socialist, the NDP would get a majority every election. Actually many NDPs end up in Liberal Cabinet. Isn't Bob Rae in therunning for Lib leadership? What about Ujhal Dosanj, former health minister. Roy Romanow commissioned to do the health care report...and on and on.... My bet is Jack Layton has a future in a Liberal Cabinet. -
I don't trust any computer controlled gambling machines because they can manipulate the statistics and produce results which are not truly random. This does not mean the chances of winning are any different but the chances of 'almost' winning are much more than would be expected for a truly random game. This psychologically manipulates gamblers into believing that they should keep playing cause they were 'so close'. That simply is not true. Addictive and couter productive to an enriched society yes, but skewed in their approach no. The simple truth is that human nature is all that is required to fall victim to their addictive nature. I actually agree with River. I have played a few hands of VLT blackjack at a bar before, and its like 19... 19... 19... with the VLT getting 20 each time. It's just a little too fishy. Now it just might be my limited personal experience, but I don't think that changes things. I don't think computerized gambling machines belong in bars at the very least, and I'd like to see them out of casino's too. They add absolutely nothing to society, except a tax on those that can least afford it. Why can't people do better things with their lives? First - there is too much money to be made with a pure fair random game to risk doing anything fishy. Second, IMO in a free society grown adults are free to make choices - even those that harm themselves such as smoking, drinking etc. I wouldn't give that up for anything. The idea of the puritan society with no ills or vices makes me gag. We have enough of a nanny state as it is without papa government telling us what we can and cant do with our money. Nothin wrong with burning off a hundy or two at the track, the craps table or the VLT IMO. My two cents.

Yes this is true. But let's not let facts get in the way of a good social engineering experiment...
-
There doesn't "need" to be anything IMO. Let the chips fall where they may. Social engineering is for the birds.

He is an equal opportunity satarist: and for those with no sense of humor....

Here: http://www.brainyquote.com/quotes/authors/p/p_j_orourke.html Who doesn't love some good right wing scathing hilarity from time to time. Enjoy...even you lefties should like this stuff.
-
Sure, but it won't make your dick bigger (though it may turn you into a giant prick). LOL - take some of that granola money and buy yourself a sense of humor. and you wonder why lefties are the laughing stock of the party....SMILE once in awhile Some rightwingers are just like schoolyard bullies -- they say something really nasty -- "but I was just jokin' -- where's your sense of ha ha?" "Gee honey I could park a Kenworth in your butt crack, hee hee hee." Wife gets mad Redneck hubby: "But I was just jokin' why are you mad?" Slapstick and/or hurtful humour is only funny to those with very low IQs. What's funny to a centrist like me? That Gain laundry detergent commercial where the lady gets caught sniffing the underwear -- funny! Not hurtful, just really friggin funny. Oh gosh Drea. You're a softy and it's kind of appealing. But c'mon. LIGHTEN UP! here: http://www.quotationspage.com/quotes/P._J._O'Rourke/ enjoy some scathing humor at others' expense. and yes - he is a rightwinger and a damn funny one if you just take it all with a grain of salt....

Who Hates the USA?
JerrySeinfeld replied to PocketRocket's topic in Canada / United States Relations
America's standard of living is far better for average middle class people. Better health care More disposable income Higher income levels Tax deductible mortgage interest Better climate -
I think we should go the Affirmative Action route on this one. For too long, women have been underrepresented in the military. From this point forth, policy should dictate that for every man recruited, there should be three women recruited. This policy should be maintained indefinitely until women are on equal footing with me in the military. God help us...

OK I've changed my tune. It's time for the USA to abandon the attempts at democracy in Iraq. Time to pull up stakes and get the heck OUT of there, and to send a quick apology to Iran on their way out the door. WHY OH WHY have I changed my tune? Well, it starts with Victor Newman - you know, the powerful cosmetics magnate from young and the restless? Well, I saw him the other day on "E!" denoucing the Iraq war. Ok, I thought to myself, I can hold of the strong arguments of "Manhattan" Michael Moore (that's right - he's not in Flint Michigan anymore)...I can try my best to poke holes in the logic of Oprah Winfrey or other hollywood "heavy"weights. But Victor Newman? C'mon. Even the most ardent war mongering, militant muslim taming, freedom spreadin' Bush Backer can't resist the airtight logic of the talented Founder of Jabot cosmetics... God bless the left. Where would we find our laughter without 'em...

Forget All Else: Islamic Law Comes To Canada
JerrySeinfeld replied to Neal.F.'s topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I think we start by being frank about SOME (radical) muslim's intentions and that they may not align with our society. We then engage imams in a transparent dialogue about sharia and integration into the western world. If we can't get imams to back the basic rules in our society this is an indication of insidiousness of intent. -
SOOO...what you're saying (I think) is that we're finally gonna get some decent health care in this country? COOOOOOOOOOL!!!

The Media Is Lefty
JerrySeinfeld replied to JerrySeinfeld's topic in Canada / United States Relations
If the same media were reporting the story in way you agreed with then I am sure you would say it was because the 'facts' supported that version of the story. I'm sure you're sure.
