USA as world police
JerrySeinfeld replied to JerrySeinfeld's topic in Canada / United States Relations
Reagan kicked USSR ass by outspending them at their own game. They ran out of money, Gorby saw it was over and folded with Perestroika and Glasnost. At the end of the day, Gorby saw that the freedoms prevelant in the USA were the only way to go. If we had gone the lefty route, we would've stopped spending on military and the Soviets could have won. Typical lefty mentality. Knuckle under and wimp out. Superimpose that wuss mentality onto Iraq and we'd still be "containing" Saddam with sanctions at the cost of millions of civilian Iraqi lives. Boy, it sure sucks when you're wrong doesn't it lefties. -
USA as world police
JerrySeinfeld replied to JerrySeinfeld's topic in Canada / United States Relations
Regean did not win the cold war - the soviet union would have collapsed on its own at the end of the 80s no matter what Reagan did because of its flawed economic model. The soviet union was able to keep going in the 70s because the high price of oil provided enough cash to keep the machinery working. When the price of oil collapsed the system could not sustain itself. Good theory but with no evidence. Reagan obviously won the cold war. I know guys, it's hard to take. Just live with it. -
U.S. abuse continued in wake of Abu Ghraib

Another situation that got out of control for the US. Why? Lack of leadership. Confusion over instructions from civilian leadership. jailer paintball? COOOOOL!!!! -
USA as world police
JerrySeinfeld replied to JerrySeinfeld's topic in Canada / United States Relations
You do know that generally, when confronted with information countering your statements, the usual course of action is to marshal information or facts to support your opinion? Not simply restate your opinion more emphatically? It's not hard. I provided the fact that Reagan won the cold war. I provided the fact that the USA is the best option for a world enforcer. You've provided a weak opinion to the contrary. -
You make good points and I agree with most of it. First of all, I wouldn't consider teachers or journalists "well paid". I thinkalot of teachers and journalists start of as young, idealistic peope who think the profession sounds like a great idea or "way to change the world" at the time but then realize after a period that it's tedious work without much payoff or alternative. Nurses too. Plus, when your paycheque is signed by the government you're generally in favor of higher taxes Another "non-poor" fixture on the left is the wealthy widow / emptynester couple. They've made their money and spent their lives voting conservative, but now that their income needs are tailing off and they've way more money than they could spend in the remainder of their life, they become short-term altruists. Think the wealthy older couple at the opera fund raiser.

USA as world police

Okay: who? Names and quotes please (oh, by the way: Egypt's WMD? I'm sure you meant Libya, since Egypt has never had a nuke program and still has cehmical and biological weapins. Of course, even if you did mean Libya, you're still wrong.) The USSR fell because of the utter incompetence and wholesale corruption with which it was designed, built and run. I've always wondered why, if Reagan-era military spending was such a clever strategy to drive the Soviet Union to the brink, noone (not even the U.S. intelligence community) predicted its collapse. The only reasons Reagan gets any credit at all is because the U.S. grossly overestimated the Soviet's strength for pretty much the entire duration of the Cold War (at one point, the CIA estimated the Soviet economy was twice as large and productive as it really was) particularly during the mid to late '70s during the first Rumsfeld/Cheney/Bush era. If anything, given Reagan's belligerancy and aversion to the decades long (successful) strategies of containment and detente, it's a miracle he didn't bring about World War 3. You're just mad because Reagan won the cold war. Just, for once guys, be happy the world is run by republicans and not oprah winfrey. Face facts: the US as police man is obviously the best choice available. Live with it. -
Trolling posts = no feeding zones A quote from PJ OROURKE:

Anyone ever notice how easy it is to be a left winger? You don't have to think. You just pick the side of an issue that "feels good at the moment" and doesn't require much thought - and is usually spoonfed to you by the media. One thing I have noticed for certain. lThere are a few exceptions, but generally the lefty is the guy who has less money, a shittier job and not much prospects. First of all, left wing policies tend to appeal to those without much hope of gaining financial independance, which is why bottom of the barrelsocial safety-net issues matter to them. Also, left wingers like to think their idea are on the "morral high ground". ie. "Right wingers are cold hearted war mongering bastards who only care about #1". This is a common misconception, but one which most lefties are happy to perpetuate. Why? because in a world where they have basically failed in competing with the righty on virtually every other area (financially, career success, charisma, charm, power, etc.) it instantly brings the lefty onto an equal playing field - or even superior in his own mind. Think about it. "Hi I have a shitty job, no prospects and haven't accomplished much in life, but I am better than you the rightwing-successful-dude because I chain myself to trees and protest against war." HAHAAHAHAHAHAHA. Good on ya - whatever makes you FEEL GOOD. And that's what being a lefty is all about - FEELING GOOD.

SOme houses in vancouver are expensive, others are like $700K or even lesss so its not that bad. Housing will correct, however as rates rise and the speculators head for the door.

Localized issue. Milosovic didn't send civilians to saudi arabia to kill muslims. Today's muslim multinational seff-detonation program is a completely different kettle of fish. Sure, but Milsoevic sent armed militia's into neighbouring countries and his own country to kill Muslims specifically (read up on Sebreniza, 8000 Muslim men systematically executed for their racial composition). This is a much worse kettle of fish than the the few suicide bombers. If you actually think all Muslims want to be suicide bombers and kill everyone, you live a very sad, sheltered, paranoid life. Who is suggesting that? What are you suggesting by calling all Muslims terrorists then? If they are such, then surely we sould lock them up or do something about it? When did I call all muslims terrorists? Stick to reality.

The great American liberators. I think this quote puts the Iraqi situation in complete perspective. Iraqis are certainly fee now to cower in their homes for days on end with the fear of insurgent reprisals. They are certainly free to not have electricity 24 hours a day, clean water and/or a fully functioning infrastructure that is getting blown up everyday by terrorists/insurgents. Iraqi women and children are certainly free to get slaughtered by U.S. operations looking to weed out an insurgent here and there. And Iraqis are now free to kill our men and women in uniform, something Saddam just recently requested at the behest of his loyalists. I'm sure the embedded insurgents within the Iraqi military and police are anxious to carry out their dear leader's request. Ain't freedom grand? Iraq shall be won. Meantime let the feeblehead lefties cry to mama 'cause god knows if it ain't easy, it ain't worth doing, right newbie?

What happens to detainees?
JerrySeinfeld replied to gerryhatrick's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I have no sympathy for "soldiers" who sneak around and don't wear uniforms. -
Black Sabbath did not perpetuate negative stereotypes about a particular ethnic group. The trouble with rap is it creates a very negative image of black culture amoung the rest of society and rap artists are troubling role models for kids in black ghettos which don't have many role models to choose from. SO what - it's blacks perpetrating stereotypes about blacks. WHats your point anyway? You want to censor it?

What's going on in Alberta?
JerrySeinfeld replied to Conservative1's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
a five year old cavalier? hmmm. not sure on that one. but if you have a clean claims history possibly - i used to live in alberta and now live in Van. My insurance went from $285 / month to $231 / month. not much difference. BC has govt insurance. -
Tax breaks for investment and international trade are GOOD. What does your statement have to do with OPPRESSION.

Uh, could be because the 9/11 Commission released a report saying that there was no "collaborative relationship" between Al Qaeda and Iraq. I'll take the commission's view over this looney judge who claimed Saddam was behind 911. Even Dubya quit going there. When it comes to the middle east, EVERYTHING is connected.

Absolutely. no question. thats the whole point of my posts about muslims. multiculturalism only works when ALL participant groups are tolerant. when you include one INTOLERANT group (muslims) then it falls apart. ask even the moderate muslims how they feelabout gay marriage, womens rights, abortion....

So if he was still working, he could get you a sack of dope, whatever it is. Sixteen years old and selling dope on the corner. Nice. Running from the cops. Wonder why? The one main thing that got me mad about this song (if you want to call it that) is the video is shot in a happy type mood. It is as if he is proud of what he has done, and that this lead to a better life. One major disconcerting factor is the young kids that are in this video. They range from 1-16 years in age, and having fun singing along. I just wonder what that does to their Psyche when they relate to dealing drugs and living a life of crime as a life of rewards and prosperity. The early hip hop was about overcoming this type of life and fighting back against discrimination. Now it seems they are turning 180. Full lyrics Some kids take it seriously some don't. But everyone used to think Black Sabbath was a horrible influence back in the day - now they're just harmless classic rock. What should be really entertaining is to see what comes AFTER hip hop...could be hilariously nasty or a backlash into the goodytwoshoes. My guess is nasty- kids love to rebel.
