Witch burning was widely accepted by christians for hundreds of years. The spanish inquistion was as bloody as anything advocated by Muslim extremists. The only difference between Christianity and Islam is about 700 years of maturity. If you look at Christianity in 3rd world countries you will find so-called Christians doing some pretty brutal things. The Lord's Resistance Army in Unganda is a good example. Violance committed in the name of religion is really about politics and power - the actually religion involved has nothing to do with it. Lots of red herrings out there so far, so I'll ask again. past 20 years: muslim zealots v. christian zealots. Is it a fair comparison given the vast divergence in body count. Sparhawk's examples weren't red herrings. You turn a blind eye to any trouble committed by your own side and dismiss them as non-Christian types and then bash every little example from the Muslim side. I'll be the first (well, second to you obviously) to be extremely critical of much of the goings on of Muslim radicals and fundamentalists. I have no patience for any religion or state that justifies murder. But to bring out a Christians vs. Muslim competition in who's killed fewer people is ridiculous. Want another example of a Christian genocide against Muslims... how about Yugoslavia. There are so many examples, all these fundamentalists need to removed, Muslim or Christian. Since you and I are both Christians Jerry (at least I assume you are from your uplifting of Christians to the destruction of all others), I'll suggest a passage from the Bible for ya, Matthew 7: 3-5: "Why do you notice the small piece of dust that is in your brother's eye, but you don't notice the big piece of wood that is in your own eye? Why do you say to your brother, 'Let me take that little piece of dust out of your eye'? Look at yourself first! You still have that big piece of wood in your own eye. You are a hypocrite. First, take the wood out of your own eye. Then you will see clearly to take the dust out of your brother's eye." Another red herring. Is anyone out there willing to admit the simple fact that over the past 20 years, muslim zealots have killed FAR more peopl than chistian zealots? And in admitting this, you also admit that the comparison between the two is absolutely ridiculous. In other words, in today's world: piss off a christian zealot and get a nasty letter. piss off a muslim zealot and risk getting killed. Big difference, fellas.

Really? How come? The cartoons, the ongoing protests and terrorism in general in today's world have AGAIN highlighted the media's odd denial of islam being the source of any wrongdoing in this world. The media's referral to the sniper as "Williams" (his old name) instead of "Muhammed" (his new name) suggests a bias. Don't you think? All the media I saw on it refered to him as Muhammed. I think you might have a paranoia condition. OK so aside from your personal attacks, Read the article again. Specific references to Aaron Brown on CNN calling him Mr. Williams and the New York Times conveniently avoiding any issues about his conversion to Islam etc. Same kind of thing that happened here in Canada with Marc Lepine (Montreal Massacre) - another Muslim which was conveniently avoided by the media. Perhaps is a "denial condition".

OK we know the UN is a joke and irrelevant. And the USA has beeen the world's policeman since the end of the cold war. My thoughts about policemen on our streets: Sure, from time to time they can be a bit agressive, even to a fault. Police even sometimes abuse their power and authority. But when the sh*t hits your own fan, thank god they're there. I think this basically sums up the job the USA has been doing. Sure, there are some posters on here who long for the days of Noriega or Hussein. Some even miss the Occupation of lebanon and the Egyptian WMD program. Others may still think Reagan was an idiot despite his obvious victory over the Soviets in the cold war. In fact, the very same people calling Bush an idiot with no vision probably denouced Reagan and his hard-line methods back in the '80's. But guess what? He was right. And perhaps so too is GW Bush. Those who criticize are only speculating. They really don't know the whole story or what the result will be. It may take decades - similar to the cold war, to see Bush's brilliance.

That does seem to prove the point that those who are above-average WILL rise to the top, without any need for AA. I've already pointed out some of the negatives of AA. If Jews can rise because of more vigalance when it comes to discrimmination against Jews, perhaps we would be wise to focus are efforts on more vigilance against discrimmination against all groups instead of programs like AA. There is no valid reason for AA. It's just lefties' short sighted solution for feeling better about past wrongs. Lefty's are all about what "feels good", while cons look for viable solutions.

hmmmm. thinking....thinking.......ummm - YES! you're right! George W. Bush, former owner of the Texas Rangers baseball franchise, and Dick Cheney, fomer president & CEO of Halliburton, and their friends hatched a brilliant scheme to blow up the two most recognized american buildings and kill thousands of innocent americans. Meanwhile the nutjob militant islamists who continue to self-detonate on an almost nightly basis even today are actually the PAWNS in the American scheme to kill innocent jews and americans. Sounds plausible to me

Let me make this perfectly clear, even though most minorities do not suffer from discrimination like they did in the past the affects of this discrimination still linger today. Because they still linger today, they can provide people who were not discriminated against with an advantage, an advantage based upoun past wrongs. The discriminationof yesterday affects the people of today, not only does it affect those who were discriminated against but it also elavates those who were not discriminated against. And therefore we continue to perpetuate the discriminationof the past because the discrimination of the past not only put up bariers it also allowed for other people to be eleavated over such minorities. Next I do not belive we should make your local black pimp the head of General motors, but I do belive we can give consideration to skin colour when hiring for low level positions. Because at low level positions it is not hard to find people who can perform the required tasks perfectly fine, in that way we are not hiring someone under qualified to do the job, We are meerly hiring one qualified person over another qualified person, this done in cases where there is little substantial difference between the candidates, and in my previous posts I did say that there have been problems implementing this, so that AA can go to far, but that doesn't change the fact that it can also do good. A little affirmative action is a bit like a progressive tax system, we are taking from everyone but we ask a little more from the rich, in the Case of AA those who have collectively benifieted from past wrongs. However unlike taxes if AA were implemetned responsibley it would be over before you die and those you leave behind would not face the prospect of AA. So in short: Because my grandpa discriminated against someone else's grandpa 50 years ago I have no hope in applying to a job that carries the disclaimer "we are an EQUAL opportunity employer." Memo from Slavik: a little discrimination goes a long way. Wonder what will happen in 50 years?

Sounds like a list of prince charmings to me I for one certainly pine for the noriega/hussein days. Yea - you've convinced me. I changed my mind - I'm for nukes in Iran. Any other brilliance for us?

Sounds like a list of prince charmings to me I for one certainly pine for the noriega/hussein days. lol. keep trying bud. What colour is the sky in your world? This time of the year, either blue or grey. Now how about addressing the points eh? How many nations has Iran invaded in the last twenty years? How many governments has it overthrown? How many has it bombed? Now compare those figures with the US's. Face it, the US under Bush has become very dangerous, not only to other nations and their citizens, but to the average joe in the US. Simply by declaring that it (the US) will use pre-empitive military strikes, including the use of nuclear weapons, against any nations that MAY become an economic or military rival at some future time is a challenge no nation can ignore. This does not make the world any safer, on the contrary, it makes it far less safer and give the more radical elements around the world jusification for increased military spending and action. As much as I hate to say it, but nation such as Iran would be insane NOT to pursue the development of a nuclear deterant. I predict that in the next twenty years, you will see the nuclear club membership more then triple...if just to keep the US in check. OK dude. In my view the US is a pretty good policeman. I'd way rather have the US using its muscle to police the world, but I'll put you down for one vote for IRAN as the world's muscleman. Please, can you provide me with a list of the leaders who were displaced as a result of US action? I'd like to see that list. As you wish....here is a short list: 1953 - Dr. Mohammad Mosaddeq of Iran, ousted by joint CIA-British operation that installed the Shah of Iran into power. 1954 - Jacobo Arbenz Guzmán, elected president of Guatemala. Overthrown by CIA lead coup that install the U.S.'s hand-picked dictator, Carlos Castillo Armas, who outlaws political parties, reduces the franchise, and establishes the death penalty for strikers, as well as undoing Arbenz's land reform. 1961 - CIA-backed coup overthrows elected Pres. J. M. Velasco Ibarra of Ecuador 1964 - João Goulart of Brazil ousted by U.S.-supported military coup. 1973 - Military takes power in Uruguay, supported by U.S. 1973 - U.S.-supported military coup kills Salvador Allende Gossens in Chile and brings Augusto Pinochet Ugarte to power 1981 - The CIA steps in to organize the contras in Nicaragua 1983 - U.S. troops take over tiny Granada. Rather oddly, it intervenes shortly after a coup has overthrown the previous, socialist leader. One of the justifications for the action is the building of a new airport with Cuban help, which Granada claimed was for tourism and Reagan argued was for Soviet use. Later the U.S. announces plans to finish the airport... to develop tourism. 1989 - Panama - Manuel Noriega - US/CIA puppet 2003 - Iraq - Saddam Hussein - another US/CIA puppet that outlived his usefullness. This list focus's mainly on South America and the ME, suggest you do a further search on your own....I think you will be unpleasently surprised by what you dig up.

Perhaps it would of......three years ago when it was news Actually its even more relevant today in light of the danish cartoons etc.

Value of a Fetus. Time to overturn Roe v. Wade?
JerrySeinfeld replied to I miss Reagan's topic in Moral & Ethical Issues
Nice one - classy too. What abortion boils down to is another lefty way of saying "I want to do whatever I want with no consequences" the nanny state will take care of me anyway. Gays marrying, women having abortions..kirpans in school, cops wearing turbans...blah blah blah blah blah.... -
I'm not talking about governments - I know where you're going with this. Nice try. I'm talking about the constant and unfair comparisons between fundamentalist muslims and fundamentalist christians.

It's a shot at liberals and non-rightwingers. He's making the false argument that people left of center are against capitalism. The dumb thing about Montys cheap shot is that Bill Gates is very socially conscious. He's over in Africa helping fight AIDS and involved in all kinds of lefty-type activities. Silly me thought this would be a non-political post, but of course Monty can't post without taking a shot at his imagined enemies. Since when is helping fight AIDS a lefty activity? More accurately, appointing a royal commission to study the effects of AIDS on the public, insisting that it's not a gay/intravenousdrug use/third world disease, spending millions on bureaucats who spend their time behind closed doors only to come out with the result that "AIDS IS BAD, perhaps we should go over to Africa and help out", while the capitalists simply go over there themselves and get down to business - THAT would be a lefty activity

Abortion, Choice, Responsibility
JerrySeinfeld replied to JerrySeinfeld's topic in Moral & Ethical Issues
Really good friend of mine. Travelled the world throughout his youth. He's now 44 and looking for a mate for life. He realizes he doesn't want to be alone forever and would like to have some children too. He just went to Mexico, had fun with a little Chickita, but he said it was pretty hollow. I guess he'sa convert then. But one anecdote does not make the case. I love my bachelorhood. I have wonderful relationships in many spots around the world and at home. I am anything but alone or lonely. People assume that if you're not married with kids then you are "alone" and your existence is hollow. I beg to differ. As long as you maintain healthy, meaningful relationships with the women and men in your life it can be very fullfilling and liberating to know there is more than one way to skin a cat -

I feel like I've gone back in time and am talking to my young self. You sound exactly like I did when I was about 25. Until I experienced it first hand (at age 28) of course. hehe. I surpassed 25 quite awhile back. I'm still keeping the bachelor dream alive for all you married folk out there. it's tough - went to hawaii last month - off to vegas next month...and portugal in the summer...meet people from all over the world, keep in touch with em, visit friends in boca raton over the winter....darn it all it sucks! -
True. Perhaps as the next generation reaches their 40's and 50's things will be a tad more equal in that regard. Sales is actually a very emotional business. People may think they are buying based on logic, but they buy based on emotion. Women are better at reading emotions than men (generalization!) so it stands to reason they are better sales reps. HA! exactly my point. women ARE better at certain things than men, and vise versa. That's why I originally wrote some of the acid generalizations in my earlier posts: to open that discussion up. We all inherently know this to be true, but people are so politically correct they won't admit it. And there are always exceptions! Personally I believe sales is about TRUST, which has an emotional component, but certainly I believe it's more about consistency and keeping your promises.

Heck no, not me. Some gorgeous young woman you fall in love with might tho. As I've said before, I didn't want kids when I was in my 20's. Thankfully I got pregnant and got to experience the whole difficult, incredible, rewarding experience. Never say never Jer. I dunno. From the outside looking in it's amusing to me. People run around with their babies like they've done something magical and amazing. Gosh - ants breed, cockroaches breed, dogs breed, EVERYTHING breeds...yet human beings seem to want a medal because they breed. I guess you gotta be into that kind of thing. One thought: I can't decide if breeding is the most selfish or the most UNselfish thing someone can do??? Know what I mean? -
Can somebody please tell me how many people fundamentalist Christians have to kill before they can be fairly compared to their fundamentalist Muslim counterparts? Let's talk bodycounts here. In the past 20 years, how do the two "nutjob margins" of their respective religions stack up as far as how many they've killed?
