Socialism makes people worse
JerrySeinfeld replied to Montgomery Burns's topic in The Rest of the World
Of course not. The closest major market to 100% I can think of is Hong Kong. Relatively, compared to the Eurosocialist states and Canada, the USA stands as the leader in Capitalism. -
Calls for impeachment growing louder
JerrySeinfeld replied to gerryhatrick's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
I love it. I should respond - like i did to that ad in the back of a comic book when I was 9. I became a minister in the "unity church"!!!! I love the USA for it's dissenting viewpoints. In Canada if you tried that against Chretien or Martin you'd be demonized as a right wing zealot. Good for the USA - I love dissenting viewpoints!!! -
If would be difficult to see the Pope as an unbiased observer in all this. I was taught the conventional message about the Crusades in school. Fighting to reclaim the land Jesus was born in from the infidels. So a few people got killed. They were only heathens. ahhhh...the crusades. I long for the good ol days

What is this? Social Studies 30? The USA is the greatest example of capitalism in the Western World. -
No, but much of the rationalization that's used to support arguments that those are cover-ups are identical to the ones used for 9-11. For example, 'it's always good to ask questions'. Another - official sources can't be trusted. Even closer to the point - finding strange anomalies and unexplained facts and concluding that there must be a conspiracy at work. And - yes - the Popular Mechanics article is a good read, if only to show that many seemingly unexplainable things can be explained. You can bet that the ones that aren't will be fuel for the conspiracy engines. Exactly. But c'mon MH, let's face it. The evidence of the lochness monster is far more compelling than the "cement powder, 110-stories-of-exposives" BS we're being subjected to here... I really do enjoy reading this stuff for entertainment value, though. They go round and round in circles without proving anything.

Whatever makes you feel better about yourself, big guy. Anyway, I went ove rthis thread again and was struck by your utter lack of a point. Do you have one? Really? Thanks "big guy" here ya go...

I'm not sure it does. I just wanted to point out that a 16 year old girl is a better golfer than you. Yes - there is one out there in the world. Good for the gals. One in....3 billion. Stop the presses - gender stereotyping has been DEBUNKED!!

Socialism makes people worse
JerrySeinfeld replied to Montgomery Burns's topic in The Rest of the World
What "fringe welfare state" principles are we talking about? State-supplied health care and education? Taxes? Military spending? huh? Yeah. I thought so. Yes, those ones. They aren't what makes america great. It's the free markets, the entrepreneurial spirit...yes all those things. Those NON socialist things. -

Grip is got. You're just the most pathetic example of a non-intellect around right now. For example: Michelle Wie, a 16 year old girl, has played on 3 PGA tour event in the past few months, scoring better than 86 professional male golfers. Yoink. Yes, we've all heard of Michelle Wie. Quite the amazing young prodigy. Soon maybe she'll make a cut on the men's tour. That would be really neat - a novelty, really And this refutes the GENERALIZATION about men being better golfers than women how, exactly?

ok i get it now. they broke into the building, got past the heavy security, rigged the whole building and blew it up without any explosions. have you ever seen a controlled demolition? you can see and hear the explosions PRIOR to the building falling down. you have no evidence you just have speculation. face it: the nutter muslims flew planes into the buildings, the buildings were awash with masses of jetfuel, the inner structure melted and the building collapsed. heck, maybe the "explosions" your "witnesses" heard were the people jumping out of the windows and landing on the pavement. unless you have something more than pure speculation, you're going in circles. I suppose the SS Cole, the US embassy bombing, the bick berg beheading...these were all set ups too. hahaha

They are not only better golfers they are better hockey players, tennis players, curlers, football players and basketball players. But being a good player doesn't make you a good commentator. Listen to the second string commentators (all ex-jocks) on the NFL broadcasts. Some of them are barely literate. Give me an incisive Mary Carillo over a bratty John McEnroe any day. Who cares? I've been a Pats fan for as long as I can remember and I try to tune out all the macho stuff from the color guys. I couldn't care less who the networks hire. "macho stuff"? hmmm. being a Canadian, I readily admit I don't know the game as well as americans do. like when nashville predators fans watch their team - many nashvillians probably don't get the game the way we do up here. but they've got Terry Crisp, former Calgary Flames coach and credible source, to tell them the indeosyncracies of each play. I like the commentary - i find it educational and entertaining. my two cents.

Is Globe & Mail Going Way Of Do-Do Bird?
JerrySeinfeld replied to maplesyrup's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Not unless they figure out a way to provide local traffic reports. If that happens - bye/bye advertising driven radio. ...or local sports content.....or local news .... with IPODs etc...who wants to pay $12 per month to listen to someone else's programmed music in their car? I love sports/talk radio. but i get it for free now the only way sat-radio wll get traction is through the auto manufacturers. again, there IS a market, but its not gonna take over from traditional radio -

the american system incorporates some welfare state principles, but what makes america great certainly isn't it's fringe socialist elements. -

JerrySeinfeld replied to maplesyrup's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Satellite radio is the exception that proves you wrong. People are sick of advertising and will pay to avoid it if you can offer something they want. ha! sattellite radio will always be a fringe element and will never take over mainstream radio. -

JerrySeinfeld replied to maplesyrup's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I know myself I have stopped reading these pay-per-view papers, but there is so much more out there, so who cares about those idiots? The Globe is a rag. My motto for record labels/newspapers/publishers who can't adjust to the new reality of the internet? SIYANARA!! Advertising, not paid access, is the wave of the future. When it comes to e-commerce, you gotta copy the folks who jumped on that bandwagon years before Canada did: when in doubt, follow what the Americans are doing. They embraced and leveraged off the internet far before Canadian companies knew what was going on. -
They're too busy condemning a couple of abortion-doctor killers and condemning the Crusades from centuries of years ago, the same Crusades that the new Pope says were wars fought with the noble aim of regaining the Holy Land for Christianity. Link A good book is The Politically Incorrect Guide to Islam (and The Crusades) ahhh yes, the crusades. perhaps muslims are still living in the dark ages...which would make it a fair comparison.

Fortunately for us all, the reputable jurists who sit on the SCC, do believe it is about human rights. If it comes to makeing a judgement on who can better evaluate what are human rights, I have to go with their opinion over yours. For a while the majority of the population and legislators were against interpreting marrriage to include sames-sex couples, do you really think that without be forced to change the law because of rights violations, they would have done so voluntarily? Yes, fortunately "for us all" as you put it. I know I'm sleeping better at night knowing that gays are getting married. PHEW! Now we can get around to the REAL dirty business: gay DIVORCE!!!!

Tell does this not sum up the NDP and their Eurosocialist brethren?:

I like the commentators on NFL. Personal opinion i suppose. Just a guess, but I think you'd be hard pressed to get the testosterone-laden NFL crowd (oops...another ACCURATE generalization) to accept a woman non-former-athlete to give their two cents between plays.

Some questions: 1. How did someone get the security access into the towers to plant strategically, piece by piece, the massive amount of explosives? ESPECIALLY a building that was bombed just a few years earlier by terrorists. 2. Usually when those buildings come down with explosives, we all hear a big bunch of explosions and can actually physically on video SEE the explosions across the whole building a couple of seconds before the building starts to fall. and its REALLY loud. ever seen that in vegas? its a sight to see!!! 3. How do you plant the explosives so expertly in a highly secure building which has been previously bombed by terrorists in the PRECISE location so as to make it look like a plan is hitting the buiklding...not only that, but the explosion is precision planted in the right location so that the guy who is flying the plane (which by the way you have to make sure he passes security) flies the plane directly into the right spot on the building...er...BOTH buildings on the precise location and floor of a 110 story building at 800 miles per hour.... 4. How do you account for the massive amounts of jet fuel that seeped into the various floors of the building and leterally cooked the building's foundation before the collapse...which obviously accounts for the smouldering 5. You'd need alot of expert people working with security at the towers, explosives experts, and you need ALL of those people to keep their mouths shut. The problem with conspiracy theories...they like to debunk the existing story, but never really consider the ridiculous amount of coincidence and luck that would have to go into making their pet theory possible. Please, tell me you have more than dusty concrete, smouldering embers and "earwitness" accounts of "expolisions" from a few observers during the most stressed and dissoriented they've probably ever felt in their lives.

Generalizations true, but not absolutes. Just because some women may not meet the physical requirements to be a (soldier, firefighter, cop, whatever) doesn't mean that ALL women should be denied access to such occupations. I hear this argument sometimes made in other contexts - because gay couples are less stable than heteros (or so the argument goes) no gay couples should be allowed to adopt. An aside, for the longest time women weren't allowed to sports report because "they don't understand football, hockey, etc). Nobody believes that anymore, any more than people would suggest that just because one male sports figure is a clown (viz, Don Cherry) all male sports figures are also clowns. It would also be nice to see the networks get the women away from the sidelines in NFL games and into the booth. Usually the colour commentator is someone who has actual game experience. As far as a woman doing the play by play, that would be fine as long as the market wants it. Where are these "policies" that are in place because of gender stereotyping. Which policies are we talking about here? And I never said gender generalizations were absolute. I can't think of anyone who says that! But most of them are pretty accurate in a GENERAL sense. ie. men are better golfers than women. The VERY best woman golfer in the world (Anika Sorenstam), someonewho dominates women's golf way more than Tiger dominates men's golf, couldn't even make the weekend cut at the Coloniale.
