That's what i thought, there isn't any, tell us exactly, how many coast guard stations should there be? One for how many miles of coastline? The idea that you point to one spill, where the response might have been delayed, because one specific station was closed, is a bit ridiculous, shit happens, we cant have coast guard stations every 10 miles just in case. MAYBE closing that station had a significant negative effect on that cleanup, but that's just bad luck, btw, it was a minor spill, not even worth mentioning outside of the poor people on the bc coast who saw oil on their beaches. By contrast look up what the east coast endured with the Arrow or the Kurdistan, was there a coast guard station exactly where one needed to be to take care of those problems? Yea, no, but the unimaginable horror of an oil spill seems to be a left coast centric problem, as long as the east coast keeps bringing in the oil that we all use. As has been mentioned, Alberta has its own environmental regulations, as do all of the provinces, some of the provinces have more stringent regulations than the feds do.

Let's give the moderator's a warning point! How's that
poochy replied to WWWTT's topic in Support and Questions
If you have enough warning points to get MH and CA banned will the forum spontaneously blink itself out of existence? -
I dont believe that is any more reasonable a belief than those who think the conservatives have already done it, or will do it. But I do tend to believe that those of us who work for a living pay just about enough to maintain the lives of those who don't, the NDP might have a different view, and i have my own bills to pay.

I think the board would be better served by cutting down on things like this; "We have Harper, a sociopath", but it seems the people who complain most about a certain troll care much less about incredibly stupid statements or outright lies than they do trolling. Which is unsurprising.

No sorry, i just remembered that on this forum someone form the left can say any completely crazy thing, and you aren't allowed to question their sanity when they say it.

Senate Expense Details - A Different Perspective
poochy replied to Keepitsimple's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
And 23 million to uncover less than a million in bad spending. How many years of the senate could we have had at the current rate of bad spending for 23 million? Not that im defending them, if it disappeared tomorrow i wouldn't miss it, and throw the really bad ones in jail for all i care, it just seems like an unbalanced response, in fact it reminds me of my employer, who will pay people handsomely to ensure that other people get nothing more than they are entitled to and in fact attempt to ensure they don't know all of the things they are entitled to. Spending far more to do this than what they are saving. -
Surely a man that gets himself fired over something like this would have way too much integrity to have a particular bias, but then seeing as you are a fan maybe his lack of integrity was about more than just his art deals. Of course if you want to join all of the cranks who are now insisting that this is some sort of conservative plot to get a more friendly host on that show, feel free.

Just wait and see if R. Barton takes over full time, she can barely contain her bias, she might as well run for the NDP.

Truth and Reconciliation... Legitimacy

We also know that our inuit are not the original inhabitants of the arctic, the Dorset people, who were seemingly there first, were actually 'genocided' by the Greenland inuit, who live there still, no one seems to complain much about that. -
So im curious, can you tell us specifically what has been contaminated that the provinces have been powerless to stop as a result of the changes in the federal legislation?

Arctic/Antarctic Sea Ice - what to make of it?
poochy replied to Keepitsimple's topic in Health, Science and Technology
Have any of the data set adjustments ever yielded a lower amount of warming? Or maybe another way of asking is why would this data be so accidentally biased towards a colder number, and is anyone seriously looking at the numbers that might already be too high? The satellite record doesn't seem to show the same kind of warming, is it also biased towards colder temperatures? Why would this keep happening? -
Let me pour some intelligent commentary on to the stupid fire. http://news.nationalpost.com/full-comment/barbara-kay-caitlyn-jenner-trivializes-the-momentousness-of-what-it-means-to-be-a-woman "The true-to-ideology feminists are understandably put off by Caitlyn’s conflation of womanhood with a seductive appearance, beautiful long nails, thick eyelashes and a wavy fall of glossy hair. And with reason. It banalizes and trivializes the momentousness of what it means to be a woman in full." 100% yes.

Aboriginal Affairs $1B spending shortfall
poochy replied to WestCoastRunner's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Thank goodness the CBC is available to reinforce your bias, it's not like they have a habit of reporting anything that can be construed as negative towards the government, it's not as though the CBC might have a bias considering the funding cuts. Now tell us about the conservative controlled board, I here they were able to get rid of all of the obviously left leaning producers and journalists and replace them with old, white conservative men, just watch the news network for proof. There are literally no women, no women of color, and all of the men are old and white, they sure showed the progressives who is boss. -

Nope. It's called the internet, and they have it. -
Aboriginal Affairs $1B spending shortfall
poochy replied to WestCoastRunner's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
They shouldn't need or care if I care about them, and if you cant be trusted to spend the money correctly, or if you have nothing legitimate to spend it on, why should it be given? it is my money, and im not appalled, but i know, im not a real Canadian. -

Sometimes a movie is just a movie, i look forward to seeing it.

O come on, it's all over the news, don't demean yourself by being a slave to your biases, there are plenty of bad senators to go around.

Arctic/Antarctic Sea Ice - what to make of it?
poochy replied to Keepitsimple's topic in Health, Science and Technology
Well I have read studies that suggest the fresh melt water from the ice cap is diluting the salt water near the surface and making it easier for it to freeze, thus increasing the size of the ice shelf around Antarctica, idk if that's really a thing, it is something to consider that this might be the planets way of reflecting more energy back into space and moderating the temperature as a result. Who knows. The arctic sea ice extent is low again, but the overall mass is a little better with thicker and more multi year ice, so the extent may catch up to it's more normal numbers later in the season, the extent has been a little higher over the last few years. It has been very warm in the northwest so far this spring, temperatures nearing 30 along the arcitc coast for at least one day last week, im sure that hasn't helped, and now with el nino reappearing its difficult to predict what sort of weather patterns we will see that might affect ice concentrations. I think it's important to remember that science isnt perfect, and we really don't have a good handle on any of this, but it is probably safe to assume that if the temperature keeps increasing, more ice will melt. -
When i think about Canada I see a country that has only gotten more liberal, more progressive in recent decades, im more conservative, but in the middle on a lot of things, like most Canadians i couldn't care less about issues like gay marriage, or abortion, we have them and good, im sure there are a great many things that wouldn't be traditionally considered conservative that most conservatives don't much care about. The problem is that even though conservatives have changed and accepted a great many progressive ideals as the new normal, there is no compromise from the left on any subject, they have a complete and utter belief that their ideology is the only one the must be considered in all areas at all times. You can see this here everyday, you can't even speak about statistical normality while espousing your belief for equality, without being called a bigot by some extremist, The world can never be progressive enough for them, as if that word and those beliefs must be the correct view at all times, it is a little frightening how self assured in their righteousness they are. Maybe the current government has pushed back in some areas, maybe too much, maybe not enough, but they have done nothing like the secret agenda nonsense that i have no doubt some here still believe in, but that sort of belief, or the talk of fascism in our government is not so much borne out of their actions as it is from the extremist, its our way or the highway view point of those who oppose them and anything they consider not progressive, will we ever have progressed enough or will we need to go full Marxism? Im not in love with this government either, but then I have actually voted in other ways, i doubt that some here have ever had it cross their minds, which shows only how closed minded they truly are. In fact, im thinking about voting NDP, perhaps i need to seek medical attention.
-
Well, i agree with your general view point, but maybe pointing this out just isn't as important as preventing the possible harm that comes from pointing it out. The world isn't as enlightened as we would like it to be.

That human beings have all kinds of defects, and it doesn't matter because they are still human beings. I think we would all be better off not pretending that everything is normal just because it happens to some degree, very small or otherwise, if so then is every outcome that ever happens to anyone always normal? That makes no sense, I think we would be much better served by agreeing that all people regardless of what part of the bell curve their personality or sexuality rests on are still equal humans and deserving of all respect that should come with. Are we going to say that this is now normal? http://news.nationalpost.com/news/canada/becoming-disabled-by-choice-not-chance-transabled-people-feel-like-impostors-in-their-fully-working-bodies All that said, maybe the problem here is that I am as indifferent to homosexuals as i am to most people, i really just don't care, do what works for you, but don't tell me its normal, no more normal than a man who thinks he is a woman, yes it happens, and i don't care, it's just what you are. Maybe the real problem is there just aren't enough people out there who can accept this reality without treating people badly for those differences, and therefore words like normal are used against the people who fall outside of the norm. It would be nice if that wasn't the case, but in lieu of everyone just treating all humans with the same respect, which we know will never happen, maybe getting too hung up on the definition of what is normal or needing to point it out even if you aren't personally bothered by homosexuality or what not, is really a pointless endeavor that ultimately does more harm than good.

Truth and Reconciliation... Legitimacy
poochy replied to Scott Mayers's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I guess that is an incredibly stupid and utterly irrelevant statement, but hey with opinions like that we don't have to think very hard about why extremist opinions are so easy to discredit.
