He had all of us self isolate, while allowing plane loads of people from China and migrants cross our border without hesitation. He allowed Walmart, Home Depot and Superstore etc. to stay open, while he shut down mom and pop small businesses. Not to mention giving away money and PPE when Canadians needed that stuff. WTF don't you understand?

Border Security & Gun Control (from an American)
Hal 9000 replied to AYanker76's topic in Canada / United States Relations
I get what you're saying, don't necessarily agree, but I see your point - however, none of his original points referred to safety. That said, freedom is the freedom to succeed or fail based on your own choices. Freedom is not having the gov't regulate everything you say and do in the interest of safety. There are places I don't go when in the USA, and there are places in Canada that I don't feel safe either - I simply avoid those places and then feel safe in either country. -

In your original post you seemed concerned with gov't overreach, surveilance, authoritarianism etc. Now you're suggesting that it's about safety. If you want to give up your freedom for safety, then yes, Canada is the place for you. -
Joe "Trojan Horse" Biden
Hal 9000 replied to WestCanMan's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
The scenario seems far fetched, but there is no doubt that should Biden win the election, he wont make a single decision. My guess is that Pelosi would be the defacto president - maybe the actual president if the cards fall right. -

Will Canadian Society be Transformed after Covid 19
Hal 9000 replied to scribblet's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Yes, Canada will be transformed - and it really wasn't that hard to do. I'm sure the gov't was hoping for more deaths, but in Canada, it's really not hard to control the masses. The minimum wage will be moved to $15 (at least) and that will be a federal law. Child tax credit and GST will not go back to the former amounts - meaning that a welfare queen with 3 kids will be living a better life than someone making $30 per hour. My kids all made the exact same wage 2 months ago, now my one child who isn't working makes more money (a lot more) than her siblings who are working. I also think that EI will be the same amount no matter how much you worked or how much you made - just like the CERB. Nothing will go back, we are going full socialism. -

dude, you can love 'em or hate 'em, but the USA is the freest country in the world. -

All that is anecdotal, the fact is, the US is a republic and we are a still a monarchy. In the US they vote on issues -- gay marriage, drug legalization, judges, police etc. they vote on all social issues - we dont. Basically, the PM is a king. However, no PM has taken advantage of that fact until Trudeau. -

If the have a lot on their plate, then why was this their top priority? No, they took advantage of the situation...and we'll see what they say about shotguns, because I believe they did that with intent. I think the gun issue has to be settled once and for all in court. -
Border Security & Gun Control (from an American)
Hal 9000 replied to AYanker76's topic in Canada / United States Relations
That's not true. Not even close. We don't actually have the right to free speech, as Queenmandy said, we don't have a right to firearms...or to defend ourselves. We don't vote on any actual policy issues like the US does. We don't actually vote on our Prime Minister. Trudeau has much greater control over the populous that the President does over his people. If you're thinking that Canadians have more rights and say in their gov't than americans, you're truly delusional. -

The original poster seems concerned with a reduction of freedoms. Canada is way farther down that road than the US and has way fewer mechanisms to prevent government overreach. -

Trump Impeachment/Indictment Process
Hal 9000 replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
WTF! I agree with you on certain issues, others not so much, but at least I usually consider what you say. You're starting to sound like Bubber now! Yikes! -
Trump Impeachment/Indictment Process
Hal 9000 replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
If Trump were to be removed for something this trivial and obviously partisan, I truly believe there would be a violent revolution. Trump supporters have so far taken this in stride, and with certain amusement, but this would be viewed as a coup d'etat...a removal of their rights. In Canada, we would just ask if we still had healthcare and mosey on to work, I think the US would be in an all out right vs. left war. -
I like Shakira, but she basically put on the same show as she did 10 years ago. JLo was more updated in her performance, it was more Rhianna/ Beyonce style. They were both good though.

Its official, Trump broke the law

Even if Trumps phone call wasn't perfect, it really isn't worthy of overthrowing the government. The media fear mongers are out in full force though. -
America under President Trump
Hal 9000 replied to betsy's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
They heard 17 witnesses talk about hearsay and presumptions, Bolton giving his presumptions wouldn't have made a lick of difference. That said, I would've loved seeing each side call 4 or 5 witnesses (whoever that might be), but the dems chose to nix that idea because they didn't want to allow the repubs to call any witnesses at all. -

Those hundreds of lawyers in the democratic party and those they hired to find a crime really should've consulted with you on this one, because they couldn't find any actual crime. -
Wait, are we talking about climate change or "man made" climate change?

The money was actually for the next years Ukraine budget. Nobody died because of Trump, at worst a few pencil pushers were inconvenienced. -

C'mon, they didn't even miss the deadline for giving them money. Just because money was approved, doesn't mean it needed to be released that day.
