  1. So, you are accusing me of being against the gays!
  2. I've found 2 cites, one that reports $4 million, and one reporting 23$ million. I'm a little hurt that you don't believe me though. "Toronto’s main events of the year attracting more than 1.2-million visitors and earning the city over $135-million in revenue." http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/vancouver-pride-parade-draws-politicians-and-spectators-to-city-s-west-end-1.3177101 http://www.vancouversun.com/life/Pride+party+draws+hundreds+thousands+downtown+Vancouver/11261874/story.html
  3. I said a number of times that it needed to change, become more mainstream, take the high road, see the equality rather than claim victimhood, be more about lifestyles than sex etc etc. And, they seem to have figured that out too - somewhat. As far as benefits, I'm not sure what those would be outside of monetary benefits. They'll soon remove the hardliners and be taken over by corporations anyway.
  4. What are you trying to accuse me of disliking?
  5. In Toronto last year they claimed that the parade attracted 1.2 million people and generated $135 million. By comparison, Vancouver's supposed 700,000 generated only $20 million. If attendance is what is reported, Vancouver should be reporting nearly $100 million of new revenue.
  6. It was a success - great! As far as 700,000 people - no chance, the numbers just don't add up - unless they are taking the entire population of the area into consideration. The revenue brought in to local restaurants, hotels and retailers - not to mention the clean-up, the consumables, the bathroom situations etc. No way was there 700,000 on the streets of Vancouver for that parade. Added revenue to the city over the entire weekend was merely about $20 million. You can believe CBC all you want, but the numbers tell the truth.
  7. Lets be clear on a few things; 1) 700,000 people - really! That's 12x the size of BC Place's capacity and nearly what Time Square brings in on New Years eve. Woodstock had only 400,000 people, are we to believe that the gay pride parade was nearly twice the size of Woodstock. Ive seen the pictures and footage - no way! 2) It's being taken over by the corporate world. The pride parade is the place to be for corporate advertising. 3) It's become hyper political. It is no longer just LBGTQ2+, it's becoming a political venue for every group left of centre. Photo ops were on every politicians list...Except, the pride group are now infighting about who should and shouldn't be allowed to plug their cause. 4) This was the most conservative (forgive the C word) Pride parade as far as dress and behaviour that I've seen in a long while - maybe ever. Sure some of the freaks showed up, but by in large, the crowd was dressed reasonably normal, had their rally and all was fine. If not for all the rainbow, it could've been mistaken for any other parade or even Mardi Gras. 5) All of the above falls in line with my previous posts. The gay pride parade needs to change in order to succeed - I think we're seeing that now.
  8. Of course she was never there! That's the great irony of the song. WCR, It's not that you're wrong so very often - if people weren't wrong, there'd be no discussion, it's not your certitude - i love people who are firm in their stances, It's not your arrogance - in fact, some people have called me arrogant. It's the fact that you can put all 3 qualities together so often and in such a condescending way that makes you the valued MLW poster that you are.
  9. Ok, if you say she was at Woodstock, then fine. It seems weird to sing a past tense song describing Woodstock...at Woodstock.
  10. I never liked Joni Mitchell, found her way too pretentious. Love Janis though. Joni wasn't even at Woodstock.
  11. Ok, I'll have to go in a different direction - sort of. Beatles - Revolver Ac/dc - Back in Black Def Leppard - pyromania Sex pistols - never mind the bollocks... Pink Floyd - The Wall
  12. Best all-time top 5 or desert island top 5? My list could be different, so my desert island 5 in no particular order are: Led Zeppelin - 2 Beatles - Revolver Rolling Stones - Sticky Fingers Van Morrison - Moondance Ac/Dc - Back In Black
  13. Or maybe it's somebody whose been around the block and done some parenting themselves. You're not one of these young parents who think they know everything and think us people over 40 are just dummies who are out of touch with todays parenting...are you? BTW - I always love listening to these new moms who espouse the idea that they'll never say "no" to their kid - good luck chickie!
  14. You've avoided a direct question twice so, I'll take that as a no! Thank you.
  15. Seriously, are you offended when people ask where you're from? It's a simple question!
  16. Do you honestly get offended when people ask where you're from?
  17. I won't lobby the MP's, but there are a few posters here that I'll lobby for.
  18. If you can prove to be 1/4 Mik'maq, i don't see how you can be denied status. Ive seen mik'maq' who were 1/16 in Nova Scotia with full status.
  19. So, would you not agree that the term could be a microagression to some?
  20. ^^^You've been caught in your own microagression conundrum, now you're trying to backtrack, explain yourself and prove you're not insensitive or a racist. Do you see what desperation this microagression has brought you to?
  21. I ask people where they're from all the time. They might say Mexico, Egypt or Ireland, they might also say Saskatchewan, Ontario, Surry or Victoria. They might say "I'm from here, born and raised". What of it, I have people ask me the same thing? I have people ask me "what do you do" all the time too. I could take it as a micro aggression that my worth is linked to my job title, or I could see it as a conversation starter - it's my choice to be offended or not - usually i'm not.
  22. Its sad that you want to add to the topic or at least support your cause but dont know how, so you just start rambling nonsense. You did this for 18 pages in the first nations thread too - sad!
  23. Just answer the question; Why are guys getting arrested on empty(ish) subways?
  24. So, why are guys getting arrested on empty(ish) subways? I've seen people spread out sleeping on subways and busses - no outrage there!?
  25. But we can agree that it's not about space - right? I have just measured myself, and outside arm to outside arm, i'm 23 inches. Now, overspreading my legs to have 16-17 inches in between legs (which seems to be about what the pictures show), leaves me at about 24-25 inches outside knee to outside knee. So, we're talking about 2 inches wider than my shoulders. If I sit with a 15 inch gap between my knees, i'm bang on 23 inches (the width of my shoulders.
