  1. The police take away your belt and shoes for a reason, they know this could happen. What will come of this is more restrictions in the jail cells.
  2. It's exactly the same here - exactly the same!
  3. If a cop asks you to get out of the car, you get out of the car. One way or another, you're getting out of the car.
  4. Yeah, and these things "defensive invasions", "anticipatory massacres", "murdering to save lives" and "acceptable collateral damage", have all been around for centuries too. Had Clinton been willing to accept some 20 odd casualties as "collateral damage", 9/11 would never have happened.
  5. Many people shouldn't be put in jail, and they get their day in court to prove it. If you decide not to follow the orders given to by a cop, should he just send you on your way? Hmmm, this might be a good strategy, act like a hysterical lunatic and the cop must let you go.
  6. I thought it was misogynistic to refuse a woman an abortion, now its misogynistic to support it? What do you want?
  7. This whole "transman" argument has been going on for thousands of years.
  8. I don't understand the outrage, she was put in jail and decided to kill herself. She looked pretty unstable at the arrest site and proved it by hanging herself. Maybe society could've helped her earlier, but the cop pegged her as unstable...and guess what? She was.
  9. I used to be against abortion completely because I always thought there was a better alternative than killing a baby. I'm still a little apprehensive about abortions when you know their is a heart and brain, and I'm still totally against 3rd trimester abortions because at that point you really are just killing a human being. But, at 49 days to terminate a pregnancy, maybe it's a blessing in disguise. Every time I open Facebook, I see this plethora of single moms. They all have about 30, 40 or 100 selfies showing them looking "hot", in the bathroom, at the bar, showing their tits, giving duck lips and...a couple pics of their baby with the obligatory tagline "the love of my life". I see this and I think of discussions with WCR and I think "yeah, lets start aborting".
  10. I really wish you people would give some numbers as to what you believe "rich" or "wealthy" is.
  11. Homeowners make up about 20% of dwellings (in my region anyway), many of those people make up the 10% wealthiest Canadians. That 20% pays nearly all of municipal taxes and 10% pay nearly 60% of all federal taxes. So, by giving a tax break to homeowners for improvements, it's essentially manipulating the higher income people to spend more of their money - and in turn placing more money into the hands of the gov't and lower income people. If I replace the floor in my house, i'll spend 5000$ plus taxes. That money will be disbursed to everyone who manufactures the flooring, drives the truck to deliver it, the sales people, and the guys who will install it. There are likely others too, but I digress. That $5000 plus taxes that I spend will go farther than the couple of pennies on the dollar that I save - not to mention the municipal taxes that increase when my property value goes up. One could easily argue that the government is taking advantage of us. The poor get poorer when that top 10 or 20% of us stop spending - simple as that. The poor get more as we dwindle our bank accounts. The gov't wants me spending money and is luring me to do just that.
  12. What do you call wealthy?
  13. FYI, when I said "drop in the bucket", I meant for for the individual homeowners, not the entire investment. The tax break for the homeowners would be a drop in the bucket - I hope this clears things up a little.
  14. If a landlord has 10 tenants one year, but only 5 the next, his tax bill is the same. He can't go to city hall and insist that he had half the renters and should pay half the tax - sorry, he is stuck with it. And if you don't pay rent, the gov't isn't banging on Mr. Squids door looking for money, nor does he get repo'd or garnished. Why? because Mr.Squid is not responsible for paying that tax bill, Mr Landlord is. The landlord has a business that he pays taxes on, you are simply a client...or customer.
  15. It's called an investment!
  16. No your not! When they get their taxes upped, they don't run to their tenants every year and up the rent. They pay taxes as part of their business and they are on the hook for them, not the renters. Go have a look at a municipal budget sometime, you can divide the budget up by homeowners and be pretty close - exact even as to how much the average property tax is.
  17. I'm really tired of renters complaining about homeowners and tax breaks. The top 10% of money earners contribute over 55% of the entire federal taxes and nearly all municipal taxes. You want snow removal - run to the homeowners, you want water, sewer, a sidewalk, hall, parks, arena, community centre - go to the homeowners, because renters aren't paying that tab, we are! A small tax break so we can once again spend money to support and employ lower income workers is no big deal - it might seem like vote buying, but really, it's a drop in the barrel that will help the lower income earners.
  18. Bollocks! All those other countries are reading their citizens emails, checking browser history's, travel plans, events etc etc. If you're typing certain keywords into your computer, you can bet someone from the government will show up at you house or grab you off the street and make you explain. The wording may be slightly different, but it's all the same premise.
  19. What about the NDP"s flagship socialist country - Sweden? They have counter-terrorism legislation as well.
  20. The tax break is way smaller than the revenue generated by the project. A tax break like this gives incentive to spend into the economy. If a tax break of say $500 encourages people to renovate, there are more people working, spending and giving to the tax man. It's a smart move.
  21. Conservative 61% Libertarian 55% Liberal 51% Green 39% Communist 31% NDP 31% Christian 21% Bloc 18%
  22. It should! It should tell you that I believe people get farther taking the high road than being antagonistic - as has been the case in the past. Clearly, I'm not the only one who felt this way. Why are you always trying to pick a fight with me, I thought we were friends?
  23. The gays seem to have dragged this event out of the gutter somewhat (probably at the request of corporations) and that can only be a good thing - maybe I can take my kids to the event now.
  24. In some parts of the world, men are killed just for being men, babies for being babies (in fact that happens here too), women are stoned to death for having sex, whites and blacks and jews are being killed for what they just happen to be too. And Christians are killed for simply being Christian. Since when do you care about these issues?
