  1. Its an attempt to do that.........but, like past outlandish claims against the Tories, it will backfire on them. First, to voters undecided between the NDP-Liberals, it makes the NDP look as petty as Harper to suggest the Tories are promoting terror. True tin-foil hat stuff, stuff that could sway some anti-Harper voters back to the Liberals. Second, between those voters undecided between the Liberals-Tories, it could force some of these voters back to the Tories out of fear of the NDP forming Government........9/11 inside job, the Tories are promoting terror proclamations will turn off many Canadians......In an election where Harper is cast as mean and nasty, Trudeau an idiot and Mulcair leading a band of kooks, Harper wins....... Dewar's response should have been something along the lines of: "We in the NDP condemn such negative adds, which drags down the political process and turns off Canadians. This is why the NDP wants to change how Ottawa works and reunite all Canadians around a hopeful future blah blah blah" Instead, the NDP critic for Foreign Affairs is suggesting the Tories are breaking anti terror laws by promoting terror.........as I said, tin-foil hat stuff.
  2. Right, and looking at the story from CTV: I'm surprised the NDP would even comment on this. First, its an add targeted at the Liberals, second it brings up the topic of terror (and on the same day ISIS inspired terrorists killed dozens in North Africa, Kuwait and France) a topic the NDP are weak on.......Canadians, including those in Quebec, don't take such a glib and childish approach to terror. Third, the suggesting that it undermines the law is devoid of logic and outlandish, and reeks of desperation and/or pettiness.......I would expect better from a party "leading in the polls", unless internal polls are saying something different
  3. I do hope the NDP continue the meme that the CPC is promoting ISIS.........the last time such a childish approach was taken:
  4. No, its use is in political messaging is no different than media replaying it......the law itself clearly targets those that use such statements to promote and/or advocate terrorism, are breaking the law.......no reasonable person would suggest their political attack adds are promoting Jihad, no more than clips being replayed on the nightly news are.......
  5. Not if the intent/purpose is declared, and both the employee/employer register and file Canadian tax returns (Doesn't often result in a tax liability).......after all, the American utility worker is still being paid by his American employer......... Its much the same going in the opposite direction. For example, I've worked for previous and currently work for a large US corporation, that has subsidiaries in Canada. I'm entitled to go to business meetings, courses, briefings etc in the United States devoid of any extra fuss (as I'm employed by the Canadian division), but when I'm "working" directly for the US parent in the United States I do so under a sponsored type L visa, and have to file an American tax return, likewise a Canadian return......my tax liability for each country is then dependent on time working in each country.
  6. Not really......Canada, like many other first World nations continually poaches experienced personal from other services (the same is also done to us), this for us has been standard practice since the formation of the various branches of the Canadian Forces. With pilots, what I assume you're referencing was a story (during the TFW flap) about the RCAF recruiting experienced British Commonwealth pilots and aircrew (Followed by Americans and NATO allies, namely Dutch and Norwegian) to fill various training billets in areas where we were introducing a new type of aircraft, of which, we had little experience with.
  7. Right here........care to speculate the NDP's fortunes after the TPP is finalized later this Summer, and they are forced to come out against it, it being a free trade deal representing 40-50% of the World's GDP? I can't wait (for the polls) for the NDP to defend supply management industries (in namely Quebec), which result in Canadians paying too much for Dairy products and eggs, to say nothing of the greater economic impact of not being apart of said deal.......Mulcair, along with the Bloc, with have to explain why Canadians have to pay more for consumer goods, likewise why it is that Canadian business (Big, medium and small) will be left behind in terms of international trade (and further copyright protection) with the economic engine of the 21st century.......... I can't wait for the NDP (and Liberals?) to campaign, yet again, against Free Trade and the interests of the Canadian economy:
  8. DND has no problem finding applicants, just applicants already educated, as such people are earning six figures maintaining/calibrating control systems in the O&G industries or doing the like for utility companies.
  9. Not really, its more so a realization that technology has changed, requiring a greater background in the maths and sciences, for what amounts to a job in the "trades", where most people with such skills are working in the O&G industries ...........most mechanics from the age of carburetors 30+ years ago would be lost, without the required skills training and electronic diagnostic equipment, under the hood of a modern car..........its also is an indicator of our poor education system..........in the decades ahead, there won't only be severe shortages in skilled positions in the military, but private industry. The same short-term shortages occurred in the 1990s with our navy, as ships propulsion plants switched from steam to gas turbines.......the result will be providing the full training and upgrades in math/science to those interested but without the required skill set.
  10. A Gen 3 Glock 17 or a S&W M&P 9mm/.40 S&W (common guns used by police), new, would run about $650-$750 in Canada, and about $550-600 in the States.............For $1500 and up in Canada, that's roughly comparable to a lower end competition guns like Kimber 1911s or a Sig, for $1500 and up in the States you're looking at handmade custom guns like Dan Wesson revolvers, Colt reproductions and Wilson Combat tactical guns/w lasers............This Smart gun you cited is a .22 pistol, which medium price range in Canada is about $300-350, and about $200-250 in the United States That is the Smartgun, which the maker just went bankrupt, and it should be noted, the parent company for the Smartgun was Heckler & Koch, which didn't design/market/produce the Smartgun under its own name, setting up a shadow company, to avoid financial and marketing backlash for when the gun failed (as it did)....... They learned by example, as iconic Smith & Wesson nearly went bankrupt in the later 90s, early 2000s, after agreeing to incorporate internal trigger locks in their guns, which are a mechanical device (not electronic)......no surprise, police and military forces around the world, not to mention the general public, stopped buying from Smith & Wesson when these far less complex devices (then electronics) would fail with repeated use........
  11. Interesting point, without a doubt Haley, Rubio, Scott Walker and Bobby Jindal are the future of the GOP, and would all be smart choices for the bottom of a Bush ticket (or if anyone beats Bush) and I could only really see three possible outsiders (not running for the nomination), Gov. John Kasich, Gov Susana Martinez and Condoleezza Rice superseding any of them on the bottom of the ticket.......Though Rice has publicly stated countless times that she is not interested, assuming Bush wins the nomination, based on her longstanding relationship with the Bush family, I could see her changing her mind if asked (by a Bush).
  12. Not if you believe in market capitalism........Nobody is in the market for $1500+ gun, chambered in .22 (with subsonic ammo) that is not reliable.
  13. Well no, they can't......basic physics, as the stresses felt on a bullet and a recoiling gun are completely opposite (see Newton's Law), furthermore, a "smart bullet" is only subjected to stressful tolerances once, where as the average firearm, 10000+ times. This is evident by two clear examples; first the developer of the defunct smart gun had to design their gun around one of the lowest velocity cartridges, .22 rimfire, using less powder then a ramset nail gun. The second fact, nobody has yet to develop, civilian or military, scopes and optics that don't require frequent zeroing and calibration due to the recoil of a gun, hence, far more delicate electronics would not survive.......a modern smartphone can survive upwards of 50-100 foot pounds of pressure once before deforming, and even upwards of 150 foot pounds of pressure before case separation....this is a one time deal. A 30-06, 180 grain cartridge exerts over 20 foot pounds of pressure with a single shot, and a 12 gauge shotgun loaded with 00 buck exerts upwards of 50 foot pounds of pressure per shot, hence the cumulative pressure of 1 or 2 loaded magazines would destroy the embedded electronic device...................
  14. Again, your data used in your "evidence" includes those engaged in criminal activity.......likewise, with its inclusions of suicide figures, it further paints a distorted picture, as already demonstrated, Canada has a near equal rate of suicides as the Americans, replacing guns as the number one method with rope........ With that said, I won't argue that a semblance of safe storage, combined with a safety course for novice owners, wouldn't lower household accidents.
  15. No, and I don't expect you too.........Americans have a troubled record fighting insurgents overseas, well having a unified military, secure rear areas, the knowledge that their families are safe at home and endless supply chains. You are suggesting, the Americans Federal Government Forces, outnumbered, would be able to quell domestic insurgents, with a divided military, no secure rear areas, knowledge that their own families are not only not safe, but that they could very well be facing their own families and friends down from the wrong end of a gun, and that the disruption to the US economy would seriously hamper the Federal Forces supply chains...... As I said, history is full of examples of a powerful State being overthrown by an angry populace......And that is why no fictional US Government will ever force the issue of gun control with the unlawful use of force against its own citizens.........There is no political capital for the issue, let alone your absurd assertion that the US Government would forgo the US Constitution to disarm Americans.
  16. Yeaah because the United States Government has a stellar record combating insurgents, let alone, ones comprising its own citizens, located throughout the country, some of which currently serving in uniform, that have sworn an oath to uphold the US Constitution............the whole enemies foreign and domestic thingy comes into play.........
  17. The last war fought on CONUS, by Americans, against Americans, was fought over the Tenth Amendment........The Second Amendment was crafted as a result of America's first war and National birthright.........You might find it hilarious, but as clearly evident, no American politician has yet to have the political capital to reverse the Second Amendment as an enshrined natural right.
  18. No, your understanding of history is very poor, well lacking modern context..........18th century American had little to no capacity to produce its own modern firearms, where as today, America is the largest producer of firearms in the World, with an estimated 300 million firearms and upwards of 8-10 million tons of ammo currently in the hands of its citizens........there is no need for foreign aid, nor intervention.
  19. I'll go with the same reason said "Smart guns" were limited to low-velocity sub-sonic rimfire ammo, likewise the reason so-called biometric guns have yet to square the circle of a shooter having to use the gun weak-hand or well wearing gloves
  20. No, the level of ignorance that thinks citizens with small arms can't overthrow their own Government is laughable.....history is full of examples, and is how American came to be. It's pretty obvious that you have a poor understanding of history.........The Viet Cong/NVA was able to beat-off the most advance military in the World, armed namely with decades old surplus Soviet and Chinese rifles....... You realize, the redux of these hypothetical 3%ers, would also see them fighting for their own country too........But you are right, such action would without a doubt result in another American Civil War, which would lead to a destabilization of the World economy, followed by various factions attempting to regain control of portions of a nuclear arsenal large enough to destroy all life on the planet ten times over......yeah it wouldn't be a win-win for everybody else on the planet........ But of course, no such US Government would attempt it, as even anti-gun Obama is stymied by the Constitution and political reality.........the 300 million guns and growing are there to stay........deal with it.
  21. And your cell phone is not repeatedly being subjected to 10000 psi internal explosions........isn't science fun
  22. Exactly, likewise the Americans, British and Soviets etc thought in various third-world crap holes..........imagine how long the Vietnam War would have lasted if fought in the streets of Detroit, Boise, Madison, Dallas, Boston etc.......
  23. How would you rate the usage of drones in quelling ISIS?
  24. 15000-20000 outnumbered Iraqi insurgents did exactly that, armed namely with just small arms........If just 3% (again) of Americans (gun owners) took up arms against a tyrannical State, their numbers would be over 4 million, out numbering all agents currently in the employ of the (Federal) State......and that of course assumes that the United States military itself didn't fracture (Oath Keepers), various States don't secede (again) with their own Guard units etc.......
  25. The actual science as to why your GPS chip, or an RFID like in the now defunct IP1, are not grounded in reality.
