  1. And in such threads, you and Black Dog will also bleat on about gun control........yet since the 2012 Aurora shooting, nearly 7-8 million additional firearms have been produced in the United States, at an annual rate only ever repeated in the nations history during the Second World War, in addition to somewhere between 13-14 Billion rounds of ammunition........ Proponents of gun control, you've failed. Time to start addressing the real issues that cause violent crime and that allows mental illness to go untreated.
  2. I don't know what I'd say, I'd be shocked if an elitist, left leaning personality in the media actually addressed the issue with the same level of passion as they do with these lesser events.......
  3. Here: Ahh, but were talking about homicides, of which, as I said, the numbers are near parity: Drunk Driving: Gun Homicides: Right.....like how they did with recreational drugs, child porn and illegal movie/music downloads Its sad that people like you focus on controlling something that you never will, instead of working to address the underlying causes of violent crime and treatment for mental illness........... One would think most people, on both sides of the gun rights/control debate would be in favor of reducing violent crime and addressing mental illness.
  4. Despite this concern, the current Government has been maintaining steady levels of support and is polling where it has been historically going into previous elections (normally 3-5% below the actual final results). This Government won't promise grandiose sunshine, as it campaigns to win elections and not opinion polls months out, and will offer further targeted tax cuts and policies encompassing continual sound management of our national government.........And will return with a majority government this Fall. As a Tory supporter, I'd be worried if the Party was promising extreme changes....... (With that said, I'd suggest that you're close to the mark with a reduction in EI premiums and optional increased contributions to CPP, as a possible plank in the parties platform once they actually start campaign mode )
  5. Exactly, the Prime Minister is only 56 and in good health, and will be only 60 at the end of his next mandate......Chretien was near 70 when he packed it in.........changing horses in mid-stream is not a good thing for a political party:
  6. Huh? King Ralph brought the corporate tax rate in Alberta down to its previous 10%, from a previous high of 15.5% when he took office, reducing it each and every year............ Gotta love NDP/Socialist math where 10% is higher than 12%..........what's next? Will Comrade Notely actually reduce the royalties by increasing them? What's with the NDP, tax rates and basic math?
  7. Exactly........what I found odd about the entire racial narrative in this OP is this: So Roof had a black friend, and boasted about planning a mass killing.......Aside from an alleged racist hanging out with his black friend, one would think if one was fearful enough to remove his gun from his person, one would also contact the police? Furthermore: So Roof was using medication/drugs that caused violent outbursts? I think this fact, and that an alleged racist hangs out with a Black friend, alters the narrative......
  8. But the majority of blacks that are being killed by other blacks is because why? The no brainer, it would seem, would be to address the vastly larger problem than one that is within the minority........ How many of the average ~6000 blacks killed a year in the United States are as a result of racially motivated violence?
  9. Not at all, likewise I don't consider a white cop killing a black armed robber, nor a black rapist killing a white women as a hate crime........Though I don't deny, as in this case, there are without a doubt racially motivated killings in the United States, I feel they are vastly overstated, ignoring far more prevalent violence.......... I would think ignoring the far more daily killings of blacks, by blacks, in itself is a form of racism.......
  10. Good to know.......same question as above: Why doesn't Jon Stewart address the daily killing of blacks, by blacks?
  11. You don't consider Blacks as human? Why doesn't Jon Stewart address the daily killing of blacks, by blacks?
  12. In the United States, the People's Rights........ Where are all the threads on the daily black-on-black killings? Why does the media focus on infrequent incidents of police killing blacks or in this case in the OP, but largely ignore the daily killing of blacks, by blacks?
  13. Soft power is but one tool in the quiver of a Superpower though.........fore when soft power fails you're left with?
  14. Exactly, and a form like suggested by Eyeball would result in a short lived American Revolution..........as of those closer to 300 million firearms, less than 1% are in control of the State......Even in Canada, with 2 million plus legal gun owners, if only 1% opposed such measures, that would equate to ~20000 Monctons and Mayerthorpes.........
  15. Right, because actually addressing the causes of crimes and mental illness would be too difficult.... How well is the controls on recreational drugs working out again?
  16. The British once tried that with American gun owners, didn't turn out to well for them.......
  17. In the United States there are already countless laws, but, privacy advocates in the 1990s scuttled the inclusion of arrest records and mental health patient history within the FBI's NICS program, hence the NRA's withdrawal of support (in the late 1990s) for background checks for the sale of firearms. Black market aside, going forward, 3D guns will make all forms of gun control (worldwide) moot..........
  18. It was tried (in the 1990s) and largely failed (gun makers have since included trigger locks and clear safe operation manuals).......as I said, can we sue Ford if someone chooses to break the law with one of their products?
  19. Unlikely, as the advent of 3D technology has rendered such proposed technology moot.......hence if society desires to address gun violence, they will have to going forward address the actual causes, social-economical stresses that create crime and treatment for mental illness. No, because such a thing is fantasy........the maker of the proposed "Smart-Gun" recently went bankrupt because their proposed technology didn't work, nor was there a market for it.......
  20. To a large extent yes, likewise an unwillingness to use it to influence global poltics, economics and security.........both things Superpowers have been required to do since the Romans.
  21. That was my point in the quoted passage........but thanks.
  22. The law........can you sue Ford or BMW if drivers of said cars text or drive drunk? Of course not..... Can you sue Toyota (or Remington) if one of their products explodes during its intended and prescribed operation? You bet.
  23. No, not if their product is used to commit a criminal act, just as car companies can't be sued if people speed or drive drunk........Gun makers can only be sued for negligence: i.e. a faulty design blows up in someones hand, or a reasonable amount of diligence for user safety is not provided by the gun makers (and ammo makers) i.e. guns now come with a trigger lock, lawyerese printed over the gun and manual etc.
  24. You consider the Trudeau Liberals as "right-wing"? I ask, since they too oppose raising corporate taxes and scaring off international investment.....as without international investment, there would be little to no money to develop our natural resources........hence the destruction of our economy. Ask yourself why both the Tories and Liberals agree on this rare economic point.......
