Dilbert Gets Canceled
OftenWrong replied to Rebound's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
What about the poor then. I'll bet if you could find that you'll see a similar disparity. People who live in well-to-do neighbourhoods most likely commit far less crimes, and that is regardless of skin colour. -

Yes it is and it distracts from addressing the real issue. Declaring Black History Month and removing some statues does nothing for black families who live in ghetto-like conditions. But it makes politicians look good to the well-to-do white voters. By pushing a false narrative and pouring money into it, they are actually making matters worse for everyone. -
Should First Nations have their own country?

I don't know how they do it out there, but here they make a killing selling native gas and smokes. And now the native wacko tobacco, Kemosabe -
Should First Nations have their own country?

I'm no experdt on natives but around here it seems they've got pretty good autonomy already. Got their own township, and police. I heard the OPP aren't allowed in there. Every time I drive through we go past these big houses on nice plots of land, big trucks in the driveway, boats and quads, I say to my wife "these people have got it made!" -

I think the fact that such a high percentage of blacks are poor brings a certain biased perception that leads to racism. Canada has come a long way towards creating a more tolerant society, and should continue. But not every idea coming out these days is a good one. In some cases may create a backlash. All-black theatres, for example. Got to remember wherever racism is introduced as a theme, it raises the spectre of race among those who are not racist. Constantly keeping race in our dialogue is an American thing. -

If I may, this does not necessarily prove racism. I say it's a myopic view that draws the wrong conclusion. The real problem is poverty, and a disproportionate number of blacks are poor. From there you have the gangs and crime and violence. By saying it is poverty at the root cause, I include poor of any race, black white or otherwise. Crime is unlikely from well-educated and successful black doctors, teachers and financial advisors. -

First a trickle....Now a flood
OftenWrong replied to Goddess's topic in Health, Science and Technology
From what little I know about virology labs, they do many different kinds of experiments. The term Gain of Function means making it more infectious, I think. That is separate from lethality. Why they'd want to do that I have no idea. But it would still be the release of a man-made pathogen into the wild for which we don't know the long-term outcome. Evidence that the government is incompetent and worse than useless. -
I read scientific articles, yes. It's a little old thing called edu-macation. Give 'er a try fella, who knows, you might even grow a brian

First a trickle....Now a flood
OftenWrong replied to Goddess's topic in Health, Science and Technology
Obviously at the beginning no one really knew what was going to happen. Whether it was going to spread quickly and kill or what. But after a while you have enough information like statistics, to get a good picture. Serious for the elderly. My default reaction is to not trust the government, for a number of reasons. They are unable to change quickly in a given situation, especially if ut makes them look bad. Politics trumps all, in their world. Which is why they should be given only limited authority. Of course you lnow this already, so the real question is, what's your problem? It is the government actions I disagree with. IE mandates, passports, shutting down businesses. They went over the top. Which may be right at the start, but it went too far and couldn't adapt, as usual. Evidence? The goddam fed was still working at home until like 4 weeks ago. And many of them still are, now. Meanwhile the real world is fully open for like a year already. Shows the way it would be for all of us. -

Perhaps you are reading too much into this. I am not sure if it's true. But I believe it's possible. Accidents can happen. If it were an accident, it's reasonable to assume that China would not be keen on announcing it. The US is apparently looking into it, so that means there is a possibility. That's about all I know. Do you know more than that? -
"Because they can." ?

You asked so what if, and I gave a succinct answer. Now you're asking how if, which is a different question. Unfortunately your daily allotment of questions that I would answer has expired. We don't want to get into an actual conversation... -

For one thing if we know it's from a laboratory then we can obtain all the information about the man-made virus from them in order to understand it. Second we will know it's not from the wild. Third to know how it leaked, and make changes to the lab procedures to prevent more leaks. -

Maybe next we might find out about the Canadian connection to Wuhan. We had some kind of incident involving two Chinese scientists from Wuhan lab who were working at the National Microbiology Laboratory in Winnipeg, and they were abruptly sent back to China. This was in around July 2019. The details surrounding their dismissal and deportation were not made public by the Canadian government. Shortly thereafter, the head of NML resigned and a new set of policies and procedures were created for the transfer of biological materials. Smells like Denmark around here... -
Wow you really are a visionary and activist in your community, hey? ??? I heard there's new research showing that zero-cal shit might be causing yer diabetes. Maybe read up some, or talk to a dietician. Get with the times fella.

I researched the history man, I don't make stuff up. You can go look it up yourself. The war was "provocated" let's say, if that's a word. I know it is... Or something like that. Who did it, how and why? Is another very good question that I will not answer right now. Doesn't matter, you see. If it mattered you would know. It's just that there's people who want war, and would like to to prolong "as long as it takes" meaning essentially it could be years and years. If I were in Ukraine that kind of information would sure shrivel my dick. Does that absolve Putin? No. I didn't say that it did. But sometimes it seems like some of you slavering-jawed war monger types get pretty quickly aroused, so I have to bother to explain myself. Yes, I'm for peace. P E A C E is a possibility, in fact it's got to be inevitable. All I'm saying is, We got to somehow stop the drums of war, ye f*ckin fools

The Left is Destroying Western Civilization
OftenWrong replied to blackbird's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
The bigotry towards christians is another laughable trait of these conflicted neo-liberal zoom-dweebie types. You can see their in association when they give each other ups. Even though I am not a christian I can still entertain a useful discussion, without having to revert to "Christians are stuupid! Meow Meow". Anyway, when it comes down to it I'll take a room full of bible thumpers over a room full of atheists any day. Any day. At least I know where they're coming from. With atheists, I see it eventually degenerate into a complete all out shit-kicking. ? -

Unfortunately it's you who don't know the topic material. Shut up and learn, instead of flailing and yapping. It's ok to ask questions... -

Well said. Somebody give the man a chicken dinner. Even if christianity isn't your cup of tea, you've got to know history. Then you'll know there is a difference.
