  1. Ahh yes, the secret of "American Steel".
  2. I particularly liked the psychological profile you presented for those who have compulsive conspiracy theory disorder.
  3. Yes, that is one of the problems with element 'W', it's difficult to machine. Edison did find a way to make it "ductile", by cold-rolling, I think. I still prefer the good old tungsten filament light bulbs...
  4. We are discussing it. Worldwide turmoil can be avoided simply by choosing the proper building materials.
  5. That's an unfair question. Please don't disturb those who cling to alternate facts lest they have a nervous breakdown, you big meanie!
  6. I've never worked with it, but I do regularly work with Wolfram...
  7. No man, I was busy reading other stuff! I figured it had something to do with the form of the material.
  8. You sure it wasn't aluminum? 600 - 800 will not do that on steel, I think. At best it will glow red.
  9. No worries. You don't need to go very far back in time to find western state-sanctioned misogyny.
  10. The church also went through such reforms, a few centuries ago. The link provided is about LGBT history in Canada. The first section reads- New France's first-ever criminal trial for the crime of homosexuality took place in September 1648, when a military drummer stationed at the French garrison in Ville-Marie, New France was sentenced to the gallows for sodomy by the local Sulpician priests. This was done in accordance with the laws of the time. Based on the above I think it's fair to say we are a few centuries ahead of some of these places in the world. The implications cannot be overstated.
  11. I agree. The same rules, attitudes, against gays and discrimination against women existed in Canada just a few decades ago. Changes to the Criminal Code in 1948 and 1961 were used to brand gay men as "criminal sexual psychopaths" and "dangerous sexual offenders." These labels provided for indeterminate prison sentences. Link This is not given to excuse the behaviour, but to show how we changed culturally, while retaining the same basic religious beliefs. Only the interpretation of certain bible passages was changed, not the passages themselves.
  12. What do you mean? Canada has had a female Prime Minister, many members of Parliament, Premiers , Mayors, Governor General... etc.
  13. While I see the problem as clearly as you, I identify it as a cultural problem, not religion. The bible has the same kind of nasty things in it, but our culture has moved beyond literal interpretations of those verses. The ISIS/ Al Qaeda etc. is the backlash from their culture towards modernization.
  14. You are more than welcome to elucidate...
  15. It's a good point. Kinda what I said, but yeah.
  16. Pretty sure I understand what she means.
  17. Therefore we should not be shocked that they have the same attitude among them culturally, at large. The mistake is in projecting our values on others as though we are all equal.
  18. It wasn't too long ago in this country that the same attitude was prolific among white Canadians. Just go back a generation or two.
  19. Of course not. I have an old Italian barber.
  20. But this should not bother you. Security people are highly trained, and have been given security clearance themselves. They and their managers develop a protocol that often includes random spot checks of any applicant. If you are chosen, what happens next is up to you. If the person is cooperative and has nothing to hide, they'll be well on their way. Belligerent, complaining, got some kinda a chip on your shoulder? Maybe not so quick.
  21. You are disavowing the maniacs from your company, and I hear that. From now on I will call you "normal something".
  22. Is there a way to see all the status updates? The main page only shows the most recent 5, Ithink <Edit> nevermind, found it under "Activity Streams".
