Kudos to Waldo for questioning the very statement that I have asked.

I am not sure why folks here are jumping to defend his remarks that are derogatory towards women. It is a common reaction with men generally speaking and I find it as no surprise here. Why do you feel the need to defend his statement? And if he is agreeing to a wage differential, than why all the fuss in this stupid thread? Can August think of nothing more substantial to create a barrier between men and women.

Well, to be honest, I've met more irrational, hypocritical religious folks than irrational, hypocritical athiests. But of course, that's only coming from my personal experiences. And I probably interact more with non-religious and like minded folks.

I would have to disagree with this statement. Many, many religious people I meet from various sects, Jehovah's Witness, Born Again, Baptists, etc are not tolerant and are not rational at all. It's actually pretty scary having conversations with them.

Banning burqas makes tremendous progress for womens rights. If you can't see that, no one is going to convince you otherwise.

For every Muslim feminist that supports the right to wear the burqa, there are also many that do not. Perhaps if we actually listened to these women, we could be more helpful. I consider myself extremely lucky to have been born and raised in Canada, especially as a woman. When I see women walking the streets, covering themselves with Burkas, I have extreme empathy for them. They are being oppressed from expressing their unique individualism. Let's remember that the Burka is not a dress code for Muslims. It is quite simply a medieval oppression dictated by extreme Islamic men to further alienate them from society and suppress their rights. These women have had strict conditioning (brain washing) to wear the Burkas so of course they will insist on wearing them. Canada should be doing everything it can to protect, educate and promote these women's rights and that can be partly done by requirig them to remove their Burkas during this important ceremony. Removing the Burka may also offer them a tiny glimpse into Canada's stand for equality and civil liberties of all women in Canada. Even the Muslim Canadian Congress has asked to expand the Burka Ban.

My mom only worked during the seasonal months of the year. She raised all her and my dad's children and was there to support the grandchildren. I don't recall her living in splendour drawing on her CPP, even after her husband passed away. However, I do know she raised successful children who now contribute to the tax base of the cities they live in.
