Export Tax on Alberta Oil and Gas
Canuck E Stan replied to scribblet's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Forget the oil and gas retaliation....let's turn off their lights by cutting off the power from Quebec. That will teach them. Or we can tell them we won't build their cars or manufacture anymore of their stupid products anymore. That will teach them . -
Which MP Would You Most Like To See Lose Their Sea
Canuck E Stan replied to scribblet's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Eureka, This thread is about Which MP should get the boot. Your opiniion about the CPC is well documented over and over again on all the other threads. -
Normy, After Jan.23 you'll have a lot more than the present 99 MP's in the house to pick from for Conservative leader.Wait til then before deciding who might be best. Poor Paul, who's going to replace him? Brison? ,Belinda(oh sorry, won't be available) how about....I really can't think of any candidates for Paul's job. You'll have to help me out with this.

Federal Political Humour
Canuck E Stan replied to Canuck E Stan's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Before entering politics Paul Martin had a summer job working as a helper on a Great Lakes ship. Part of his responsibilities included doing odd jobs around the ship and reporting to the ship's captain when he finished his chore. When he first arrived on the ship, the captain didn't trust anyone who had anything to do with the government(Paul's father was a cabinet minister in the government). The captain took Martin down into the hold of the ship where there were cattle and instructed him to clean out the manure, taking the contents and spreading them in the local farmer's field near the ship yard. All to be done by dark. Well, Paul worked as hard as he could and sure enough finished the task before dark. This impressed the captain, who decided to go easy on Paul the next day. So he handed Paul two sacks of potatoes from the kitchen and told him to separate them into two piles , large and small. But after ten hours Paul was stymied. He had only managed to separate a handful of the spuds. "I give you a simple sorting job," the captain told Martin, "and you go and botch it. Yet yesterday you outdid yourself. What gives?" "I'm good at spreading bullshit," Martin answer. "But making decisions- now that's hard." -
Latest Poll today: Ontario L- 42%, C- 30%
Canuck E Stan replied to scarascar's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Note that the margin of error in these polls lately is getting larger and larger. Two to Three points seem reasonable. But 4.1,4.9,6.3,and 6.8% ,I think that's stretching it. -
If Martin gets in,presuming a minority, what will he need to do to ensure longevity? What issues would be problem areas or areas of compromise in securing unity? I would be interested in hearing from the left how Martin might overcome the image of him "causing the separtist to vote for separtion" a group he tried to buy with advertising money given to his own party.

Another Scandal Bombshell Monday
Canuck E Stan replied to scarascar's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
scarascar, You started a topic, what is it? Another place to express your opinion about CPC's? Got nothing to contribute worthwhile except insults.Don't expect others to put up without giving it back. Don't have anything worthwhile to contribute?. Don't bother posting. -
Shooting blanks right at Martin, your lucky his gun is empty. Maybe the big Liberal gun registry will find some unregistered guns to fire some real bullets at Harper. Paul's going down,big- time, one day at a time.

In your life you probably don't notice a lot of things others do. For others this cut will mean something and will be noticed even if it's a couple of hundred bucks. Cut the GST.

Finally Some Sense on Health Care
Canuck E Stan replied to scribblet's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Good Question, better ask Martin that one. He cut healthcare funds in the 90's and now his answer is to throw more cash at the long lines waiting. Where is his plan for reducing the lines. For that matter what is your solution? The Liberal Plan, the Martin solution, same as always, here's some cash, you deal with it. This isn't about "show me the money" . This is about "If your not part of the solution, you're part of the problem" -
For Liberals, getting re- elected is quickly becoming nothing to laugh about,is it Eureka?

Finally Some Sense on Health Care
Canuck E Stan replied to scribblet's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Quebecers understand that, Harper understands that, Layton just got it today, Martin has had it for years. That only leaves Eureka, and some thick as a brick Liberals to get it. Healthcare will be a non- issue by voting day. -
Layton not going to shut down private clinics So why didn't he support the Liberals a couple of weeks ago if he thinks this now.Two weeks ago he wanted existing private clinics removed. What's up Jack, polls making you sick ?????

Jack Layton, December 04,2005. Toronto Star Jack Layton would rather his wife wait in line for health care rather than do something for her immediately. How many have lost love ones already waiting ....only to die.

Rumour has it,that Jack Layton tried to get Marc Garneau to join the NDP so the party would have two spaced out guys instead of one. I'm sure it was only a rumour

What most of you posting here seem to forget is this is an election. The first thing a candidate must do is get your attention. Harper did that, your pro/con discussions on the GST has created an interest in different types of tax cuts. Some posters have made an assumption that this is a stupid useless cut that doesn't do much for the taxpayer. Some have come to assume that this is the conclusion for cut that Harper will make. Wrong, impatient ones. If you would read the news carefully you will see that Harper is not finished with cutting taxes. Tax-cut fever takes over federal election campaign Unlike the Liberals who think making grand announcements(how many of you even remember what they were?)with surpluses we never knew were there, will get more votes, I think the conservatives are giving Canadians a chance to absorb their policies throughout the eight week campaign.I think this will get the Canadian public more in tune to compare the major parties and what their policies are. As for the GST,remember the wise words of Eddie Shack: "Take care of the pennies, and the dollars will take care of themselves"

Sponsorship scandal fallout dominates day 2
Canuck E Stan replied to shoop's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
At the time, Canadian sailors on that ship, the Atlantic Superior, which was then at sea off the coast of Virginia, were told that they would lose their jobs at the end of the trip and that they would be replaced by Korean sailors, who would be paid $2.20 per hour and who would not enjoy any protection under Canadian labour laws. MARINE WORKERS Even the Marxist-Leninists see through Martin Prime Minister's Office and the Federal Liberal Government Conflict of Interests at Stelco The Senate Committee on Banking, Trade and Commerce said in February 2004 that the CCAA allows for "too many real or perceived conflicts of interest." Those "conflicts of interests" may very well be what has driven the Stelco CCAA fraud from the beginning and what is behind the rumoured secret agendas. Some examples of conflict of interests are the following: Prime Minister's Office and the Federal Liberal Government Peter Nicholson left Stelco's board after six years to lead Paul Martin's transition team in December 2003. He now is a strategic adviser in the Prime Minister's Office. Tim Murphy, a former partner at McCarthy Tetrault, Stelco's law firm, is now Martin's chief of staff. Canada Steamship Lines, Martin's family shipping firm, is a major creditor of Stelco. The rumoured super-port to occupy Stelco waterfront property together with a possible expansion and widening of the St. Lawrence Seaway would seem to favour Martin's family fortune. Stelco board chair Richard Drouin is a former counsel to McCarthy Tetrault, Stelco's law firm. Drouin rents working space in McCarthy Tetrault's Montreal office suite. McCarthy Tetrault was the second largest contributor to Paul Martin's Liberal leadership campaign ($178,000). A large part of McCarthy's contribution to Martin was to pay the campaign salary of Tim Murphy, a former McCarthy Tetrault partner, who became Martin's chief of staff. StrategyCorp is a company that lobbies governments on behalf of private interests. Liberal John Duffy, a long-time confidant of Prime Minister Martin was registered as StrategyCorp's Stelco lobbyist in Ontario. Sponsorship scandal fallout dominates day 2

The issue of Martin and the CSL was when Martin was finance minister fixing loop holes in the tax havens. He seemed to have forgotten Barbados. Did Martin jigger tax treaties for his own benefit?
