Much of Canada's history is inextricably bound up with Great Britain. That is why, I believe, the Liberals (and liberals) set out to diminish it, to teach as little about it as possible. The Liberals (and liberals) didn't want a reminder of our position as a colony and then a sort of junior partner to the British. What history was taught focused on the natives, and on the exploration period - Champlain, Jacques Cartier, etc. Almost everything after the French surrendered disappeared from the history books in schools sometimes in the late sixties or early seventies. And so we get another Trudeau telling us Canada has no core identity (except for Quebec, of course). If so it's because he and his father and the Liberals (and liberals) have done their best to rob us of one.
