  1. After the meeting? How they will look? ==== By all accounts, Trump is a decent guy, a gracious host. Carney apparently is pompous, self-centred - the smartest guy in the room. Betsy, you probably read men's faces better than I do. Let's see.
  2. I have absolutely no doubt that Trump will look Carney in the eye and say: "The reason that you are here is because of me." If Carney foolishly answers, "I am here because of the Canadian people." then Carney will have lost the game.
  3. In fall 1976, Bourassa called an early election. (Trudeau had won in 1974, called him a hot-dog eater. It was after the Olympics.) On 15 Nov 1976, Bourassa lost his seat in Mercier. Later, late 1970s?, I first recall seeing Bourassa as a prof at Laval. (Off to Belgium. He had a rich wife.) Then, 1985, he was back. The next time I saw him was in the early 1990s, H-Q building, he was PM. Dark room. His receptionist was a remarkable woman.
  4. Politics is a strange game. Nixon?
  5. Where is Paul Martin? Florida?
  6. Mulroney is dead. Chretien lives mostly in Florida, like Mulroney while alive. Harper, dunno. Trudeau Snr lived in Montreal until his death. He walked to work. Like me. ==== Trudeau Snr famously said that if not a Quebecer, he would choose to be one. I plan to retire in Limoilou.
  7. Mark Carney is an ambitious guy, who married up. Donald Trump is a showman.
  8. I have a sister who thinks that MAGA is Nazi. Hitler. And I'm Canadian.
  9. Trudeau Snr retired to Montreal in 1984, bought a place, kept a law office, and walked to work. He stayed in Canada. ===== Not sure about the others
  10. True. He got over 40% But he didn't win. More important, Poilievre didn't win like Mulroney in 1988. A fight for Canada. ===== Mulroney and Trudeau Snr had a passion for Canada. Carney doesn't.
  11. Feeble? In the case of Churchill Falls in the 1960s, there was a risk of building, and then bringing to market. Smallwood had discovered pineapples on the Moon. He had no way to bring them to Earth.
  12. Betsy, wherever you were born, you have passion.
  13. Because like many Third World countries, our elite is inter-mingled. ===== I'm like Trudeau Snr: I prefer counter-weights.
  14. In 1984, who organised the campaign. In 1958, who organised the campaign.
  15. You lost because of francophones, and urban women. This should have been a total defeat of the federal Liberals. ====== Urban single women vote NDP, or Liberal. People in Quebec look for an alternative.
